I agree with Xenoblade Chronicles, I think it's the best game of all time.

I haven't played a game that's raised the bar so much in a long, long time. Exceeded my expectations in every way and is a pure example of how videogames are the ultimate form of human expression. The music, the freedom, the depth, the landscapes, the sidequests, the characters. That GUAR PLAINS BASELINE. Fucking perfection.

Nah that'd be holding a protest for everything under the sun... or maybe grounding an entire airline.

My hopes and dreams are that its Zelda SS.

From what I have played this year though, exclusivity wise, Xenoblade for sure!

I have, it's pretty good. You're still using it as an example of how video games are the ultimate form of human expression, rating it above things like commiting a life of servitude to your god. An old couple who have been married for 60 years and are still completely in love. Sacraficing your life for someone you care about etc.

You're saying Xenoblade makes games worth more then that stuff.

That's fucking absurd.

I don't consider them in the same category. Expression is COMMUNICATION, i'm talking about artforms, not religious wankery and outer body experiences. Music, paintings, cinema. Creative works, just to clear it up.

For the record, I would rate Xenoblade above god. Christ, I don't believe i'm being criticised for my enthusiasm about my favourite game. Deal with it.

Well then why is human expression limited to creative works?
That's kind of a one sided way to look at things.

Are you saying that a video game, is a more important peice of humanity then love? Because love isn't a creative artwork? I mean personally I'd give up every game I own (Wich includes xenoblades) without a second thought for the woman I love.

But hell, even if we are just going to go by creative works. Seriously Xenoblades is what you'll bring to the table for games as art? You can have a faviourte game without deciding that a game is a pure form of art. I mean my faviourte game is Blazblue. I'm not going to argue that it's art though. It's just a fun game.

Xenoblade is a good JRPG that goes against conventions and does a lot right. Saying it's an example of the perfection of games as art is... way overselling it.

Oh and of course if you're an atheist (I'm assuming you're an atheist... or a really shitty christian) you'd rate your fave game over god. My point was as far as human expression devoting your entire life to a higher cause (Be it god, revolution, helping others etc) is far more important then a good game.

He's talking about human expression, not simple altruism.
Devoting one's life to something that they believe in expresses absolutely nothing about their character. Making a good video game, on the other hand...

Put it this way: in 100 year's time, no-one will remember fleeting names like Nelson Mandela or Mother Teresa, and even if they do, they will only remember their actions.

Tetsuya Takahashi, on the other hand, will go down in history as a man that all of humanity can not simply respect and admire, but truly relate to. Through his subtle use of JRPG mechanics and a perfectly designed soundtrack, all coming together to create the 2011 Wii GOTY, he has created a window into his soul; a window that all of humanity will gaze into in awe.

Compared to him, the aforementioned "philanthropists" are nothing more than an old woman that helped and a man that was sentenced unjustly to many years in prison. We don't share the same connection to them as we do to Tetsuya Takahashi.

Well, I really like it. I thought we established that. I've already said why as well, do you want more reasons? The skip travel feature, the affinity system, the delicious grass, the lively characters, the way quests interact with each other and change relationships, the foreboding atmosphere over the beautiful landscapes.

You've just said the same thing twice, so I will too (for the last time). I'm NOT COMPARING IT to love or higher causes, i'm comparing it to other artforms. Entertainment. I never said it was perfect either, so quit trying to conjure up reasons to be outraged and get something real to think about.

Are you trying to argue a game is art or are you writing the bullet point sales pitch on the back of the box?

Yes. Finally you get it. You can take your hand off your dick now and go bully someone else.

If Beethoven was alive today he'd be making videogame music and nobody would have heard of him.

Wrong. If Beethoven were alive today, he'd be Paul McCartney churning out tired albums 40 years after his prime.

I'm going to say a game that no one here has mention yet and considering it was a low budget game that a lot of people didn't know about until it was released. I'm talking about Radiant Historia for the DS, (I was going to say Xenoblade but I think this needs more of a mention, also I don't want this topic to be grounded on people holding their dicks).

One of the best JRPGs I have played, it just did everything right, addictive battle system, storyline that kept you wanting more (even if it was a bit predictable), great music, no miss ables; I could go on for ages but considering how much of a surprise this was I putting this down as my favorite exclusive of the year considering how it just came from left field.
