Saw someone post a link on facebook and before I saw that was from the Rockstar site I didn't believe it was real.
I'm excited for now.BUT if it's going to be like GTAIV and it's add-ons then I will lose any excitement for it

GTA IV didn't excite me at all. Saints Row 3 is coming for all my crazed open world needs.
GTA V will need to be something special for me to really care. I really hope it is.

I wonder if they're going to go the ultra realistic route or scale it back a bit in line with Saints Row. Seriously hoping for a blend between the two (is that even possible?). And any choices you make go a bit deeper and change the storyline a whole lot more than what was offered in IV.
Predictions on location, anyone? I'm going with Vegas.

GTAIV was my second GTA game. I was not impressed, so I hope that Rockstar can really put together a fun game this time around.

I'm excited, IV and the two episodes were great in my opinion, and Chinatown Wars was hilariously fun (sword kills FTW!) and surprisingly addictive.
I was 2/3 of the way through III, but got too frustrated and gave up. Might give it another go though.

I seriously cannot comprehend how people can think GTA4 is shit. People are just saying it because its cool.
Well let me be uncool and say GTA 4 was awesome. VC is still my favourite but on the technical side it was extremely well done (car physics, car damage etc). And the detail to the city and AI was great.

I personally dislike GTA4 as I found the story dull, the characters uninteresting, the mission structure extremely repetitive, the cover and shooting system finicky, the graphics murky and unattractive, and the game as a whole poorly paced and uninteresting. I never finished it.
I wont speak for others, but I generally avoid playing games that aren't stimulating me. That is where GTA4 faltered, in my opinion. I didn't like the characters, Niko's plight was uninteresting, and the story as a whole seemed long winded and trying too hard to be serious, so I wasn't interested in the development of events, nor how they ended. Thus, I stopped playing, because the game literally did absolutely nothing for me on every front. It was boring.
But, as a disclaimer, I should note I've never been a big fan of the 3D GTA games. I've always had a soft sport for the chaotic, isometric carnage of GTA and GTA2, probably due to their arcade-like gameplay and presentation. GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas were enjoyable, but I wasn't huge on them. GTA4, for me, felt like a step backwards from those three into the realm of mediocrity. I also thought the shift to realism and more seriousness made it a poor man's Mafia, a game I enjoyed immensely for how it executed the realistic, serious sandbox style with a phenomenal story to boot.
Unsurprisingly, I fucking loved Chinatown Wars. I think its in the top five best games on the DS, and was a return to form for Rockstar in terms of making old school chaotic arcade GTA games. It was the sequel to GTA2 that I always wanted, but I can also understand why people might not like it.
So, there's my rant. Sorry. But you should have an idea why I personally disliked GTA4.

I want the ultra realistic route again.
But with a brighter area thats not soo dull to look at and interact with. Also they need to fix the controls and cover system while moving around as Niko (not driving), they were terrible when combined with the physics.
I definitely don't want them to go back to the sillyness of the old games, I like the mature route they were going down, and Saints Row fills the spot of the old games (although Saints Row is ultimately much sillier, which is why I don't really like it)

I was being facetious. GTA is a brilliant series and GTAIV is definitely not shit (though disappointing overall). However, this is the internets and we all know you can't have a balanced opinion 
I'm hoping Rockstar follow the same path they've set with Red Dead and LA Noire. Saints Row, Just Cause, etc. have the "ridiculous" sandbox covered - I want me a bit of hammy emotional seriousness with my open world violence. They do it too well to try to out-dildo Volition and SR.

Because it was more frustrating then fun? When a game makes you spend 10 minutes driving to a mission before you actually start doing anything, then if you fail the mission you have to repeat the whole drive. That's not a good game. (Although that probbably wouldn't be as bad if the cars didn't control like bumper cars driving on ice)
They created an amazingly imersive environment with great production values then slapped a sloppy poorly thought out game on top of it.
As for the story, it's probbably my biggest problem with Rockstars games at the moment. They create these amazingly fun and interesting characters, then ditch them completly like a third of the way into the game. Brucie, Packie, Little Jacob, they were great. Then you get into the mafia shit and... fuck I don't even remember the characters names from that stuff. (They did the same with Red Dead Redmeption)
As far as I'm concerned. GTA 4 was an amazing tech demo. But not much more.
Honestly I don't want them to go the insane route either. I have Saints Row for that and I fucking love that game.
I just want them to make a good game
