Well, skylanders is selling well and there doesn't seem to be a major spyro thread yet so I hereby begin it! The newest purchase thread http://palgn.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=7239&start=34525 show pics of skylanders generally. Whilst I expect skylanders will be the main discussion I know I wil be commenting on the other games too.
To start: skylanders - the purchasing decision poll...... _________________

Is this the game where you need to buy toys to unlock stuff in-game? _________________

So 2 hours in and early impressions - ps3 (hidden so as not to influence the poll above) - Summary - its cute, its kiddy, its got flaws and terrafin rocks.
You might as well buy your chosen 8 elemental figures when you pick up your starter pack as the prompt to switch elements happens fairly quickly.
Differnet zones have an element stronger in them but there doesn''t seem to be any visual indications as to why they would be (even happening mid level just because?
The levels seem fairly linear with only character swap branches off the main paths and the combat is fairly simplistic so far.
I'm REALLY missing not being able to jump as well.
You should proberbly get the wii version? The first person shooting seems designed around pointing rather then using the analogues sticks. Hope for a move patch?
Several times the enemies have got stuck on enviroment corners
Fixed camera is a dissapointment
Terrafin (available in the pirate adventure pack) is totally my favourite so far. _________________

Did my big write up on it over in the what games are you playing thread.
Basica summuary.
The gimmick is sweet as all fuck It works like a dream and is just an immensly cool idea. The game play really shows that it was never designed as a spyro game but is solid and better then I suspected. And it has two of my faviourte voice actors (Patrick Waburton as the baloon guy, Richard Horvitz as the villian) so that's sweet as fuck.
So far been playing with Drobot while my missus plays with chopchop. Loving Drobot's laser eyes. Picked up the pirate pack and Sonic boom for the missus today so I'll give them a shot. _________________

I've been playing this since yesterday and finding it to be a really fun game. I absolutely love playing as the different characters and the toys themselves look pretty cool. This is a great chill-out game or for when you are looking for something different to play.
So far I have the three starters, Terrafin and Stealth Elf (still has yet to arrive in the mail). Terrafin is the best out of the ones I have so far. I'm planning on getting Whirlwind with the help of a friend in the UK and a couple of other elements that I need. I will be getting them all eventually, I wish they would hurry up and get everything released _________________

So 3 hours in and ongoing impressions - Summary -better then the sum of its parts
Each character does feel unique.
Whilst the standard path is pretty straight forward, there are some light puzzles challenges to be found for level explorers
LEVEL COMPLETION TRACKING RETURNS! (This was my favourite part of the original spyro) I can see myself redoing the levels.
Having unlocked "flight" I don't see it being much more than an animation switch.
levels are relativly small in area (a byproduct of the wii design?) but do take reasonable amount of time to explore

I love to see some (cheaper non-chipped) enemy toys. Some of their designs are better then the skylanders...... _________________

So had a go at the online portion. Its in beta. Unfortuantly the (wireless) portal pc-link wasn't consistant (cookie/cache needs regular clearing). Its pretty much what you would expect. A flash based "lair" to walk around. A zepplin-shooting game, an angry-birds type catapult game (as part of the tutorial) with other game types available on the "mainland" - a community hub. I havn't explored it yet...... http://www.crasscast.co.uk/news/skylanders-spyros-universe _________________

They are set. The 4 NOT available in 3 packs are Whirlwind (target exclusive..seems to be sold out) Drill Sergent (Big W exclusive -- my local had about a dozenin stock yesterday) Zap and Sonic Boom. There is also the toys-r-us exclusive "legendary" pack (spyro/bash/chop chop) thats is basically repaints with slighty better stats.
Edit: Your first priority shold be the adventure packs - Terrafin/pirates and Reaper/Crypt (toys r us) _________________

Played some of the 3ds version last night. Its great! Perhaps the best platformer on the system right now? It has a simialr feel to the early crash bandicoot game with your character running into the screen. This design makes it easy to take advantage of the 3d effect. The story involves different npcs and is a quest for crystals. All character have a jump and double jump making this much more of a platformer then the console game is. Once you have found the levels major crystal you have a time limit to reach then end of the level, turning things into a race of sorts. The graphical style reminds me of a n64 title. The only two complaints I have is that (again) the camera remains fixed making back-tracking difficult and the level collectables are a currency rather than a level completion achievment. From my quick play (about an hour) I would suggest its a stronger title then the console version for the solo player, and one of the best games on 3ds at the moment.... of course you will need to factor in an additional $200 for the console to play it on - Also the portal only activates when you transfer to the 3ds (a good battery saver) and you can store 2 at once to switch between on the go. The 3ds portal also connect to PC via USB instead of wirelss dongle. Perhaps making it more reliable? _________________

ok wow found an irritating as hell bug last night.
Was playing with the pirate pack and have a hidden treasure figure. If we placed it on the portal though the sound of it opening wouldn't stop. It would just loop constantly while we were playing the game untill we took the figure off. Fucking irritating as hell _________________

Picked a copy of this up for the 3DS on the way home tonight from K-mart. They ran it up and it said $88, but there must have been a discount on it, cause it was $68.
Damn near tempted to see if the PS3 version is the same price. _________________

Just a heads up that Whirlwind may have been restocked. There were none at my local Target on Sunday, but there were 5 there today. I can probably swing by tomorrow morning and pick one up if anyone is desperate, but I'm on a pretty tight schedule, so can't promise anything. _________________

I picked one up for myself yesterday (don't have the game, but I'm pretty interested in picking up the PS3 version as the toys look heaps better than I thought they would). Happy to try and grab a couple for other people, but I'm done with trying to use ebay to make a profit. Not worth the hassle. _________________

I ended up buying Whirlwind from Ebay yesterday as the lack of Toys R Us stores in this area made it impossible to get. Still waiting on Dick Smith Online to send me my Stealth Elf, which I ordered 7 days ago, it's getting ridiculous. Never ordering from there again. _________________

At this stage ignitor is only in the 3ds starter pack and terrafin is only in the adventure pack.
Got my whirlwind today (last one - of 2 - from this delivery to my local target) _________________
