Still waiting on my Dark Souls from Zavvi aswell.
I am currently only playing Demon's Souls for the first time though (14 hours in) and it is excellent. I can imagine the pain of waiting for your copies of Dark Souls. _________________

Cheers for the heads up! I just ordered a CE for myself online and opted to pick up in store (thus saving $10 on delivery). $50 deposit though, ouch... _________________

Just go to their customer service page on facebook and see how many other people are complaining about no receiving anything _________________

Still didnt arrive today unfortunately.
I know Zavvi have shit customer service but after they've sent the item out and unless you're trying to get a refund off them, transit time is essentially out of their hands?
I dont blame stores (unless they haven't dispatched it yet), I blame the postal services. _________________

There is a supply issue with Dark Souls, I was told by a friend that Play-Asia had a similar problem. _________________

Supply issues shouldn't be a problem if they've already despatched the orders. Which is what I think everyone here is complaining about? _________________

I wouldn't think they'd mark it as dispatched if it wasn't posted. Once it leaves Zavvi's hands (or any retailer's for that matter), it's up to the Royal Mail and Australia Post. The package that I got Dark Souls in had a sticker over the Zavvi addressee sticker which said "Sweden". Maybe it gets sent from their UK warehouse to Sweden and finally makes it's way to Australia? That would cause a delay. It seems to happen with some packages for some reason...

The saying goes "IF YOU PAY PEANUTS YOU GET MONKEYS"
- You have a choice to go the a retail store on release day pay full price and have the game physically in your hand - no waiting, postage issues etc.
- Then you have the choice to pay less then retail (maybe at best $30 less for a new realease?) and purchase from Zavvi, TheHut etc. With this saving comes poor service, poor postage times and long wait times with frustration.
Now i'm not saying either option is better then other - i do both. However if you're happy to save the money and purchase from an overseas store, then you have to be happy with all the problems that come with it - That's how they save money to pass the saving onto the consumer.
Peace.

Made a slight discovery. TheHut/Zavvi don't use standard British (Royal?) mail. They use something called MH International. Sadly my tracking number doesn't seem valid. I wonder if their service is as cheap as their website looks? _________________

It will probably take 15 business days to reach you, that seems to be the standard for TheHut/Zavvi for new releases recently. It happened to me for FIFA 12 (I did pay 1/4 of the price so no complaints here), and happened to quite a few friends for Deus Ex, so prepare to wait my friend. _________________

It's more than $30 in most cases. Dark Souls was about $40-50 cheaper than retail.

Where possible, I prefer to purchase local for the following reasons;
1) sometimes, especially for the big name games, there are competitive specials at retails on release
2) postage can either be expensive or take long, depending where you get it
3) the risk that if you purchase online, the game will either not come to you or will be damaged when it does
4) I like to think that I'm helping local retailers, as long as they aren't gauging on the price
As we've mentioned recently, with more local retailers thinking of moving their business processes to an import model, and thus bypassing the heavy markup local distributors/publishers put on local games, competition in this area is bound to heat up and only mean good things for local consumers.

I import for 2 reasons
1) It's cheaper
2) More importantly to me personally, its the only way to get games/CEs/accessories that are not available in Australia. A lot of the games in my room were never released/hard to find locally hence why I rely on online sellers or contacts from overseas. _________________

Not a very good photo I know but it's all I had on me
Skylanders PS3 - $76 from EB Games (price-matched from Harvey Norman).
Chop Chop - $14 from Big W.
Add collecting little figurines to a decent video game and I'm hooked. _________________

So my recent purchases huh? Well, this is a months worth for me
-Dark Souls 30 hours in already(even during exam time!). Great game
-Eternal Sonata, bought it for cheap at my local EB store. (25 bucks)
-ICO and SoTC collection
-Xenoblade! Ordered form Zavvi a month ago, just got it 2 days ago. :S
-Evangelion 1.11 and 2.22 - I said I'd be getting it and I did!
-Tactics Ogre and Valkyria Chronicles(UDON) art books. I don't usually purchase art books, but I had extra money, and just love the art direction of these two games.

^^ Thats a bit harsh. My copy of dark souls arrived yesterday. As daishogun says, you need to allow 2-3 weeks. In my experience ozgameshop can be just as slow. Apart from missing out on the intital community buzz period, thats the price to pay for a 20-40% discount. _________________

I'm finding a lot of my Zavvi/The Hut orders are taking the full month to arrive. If you're in a hurry to get something, it might pay to get go elsewhere. I only really stick to bargains with these guys now.
