As if this accessory wasn't tacky enough already, Nintendo have announced that, not only does it fail to improve the 3DS's battery life, it actually requires an extra AAA.

yeah, I chuckled a little a work when I read that. L O L

Has videos and screenshots for all announced 3DS games, plus more information on other games that were already announced.

The Fire Emblem announcement was awesome and unexpected, an that new IP from Square Enix was surprising and doesn't look that bad - It kinda reminds me of 4 Heroes of light.

This was something I was waiting for, a whole bunch of games that are coming to the 3DS, granted they aren't out yet, but at least we have things to look forward to.

Better views on the second analogue stick attachment.

It doesn't look as fat as I thought it did, and it even looks somewhat comfy, and while I may complain about it being big an chunky and not fitting in my pocket, I have never even take my 3DS in my pocket anyway, It has a case and I only ever take it places where I know I'll have enough time to game, which isn't often.

The only problem:

Looks Ugly. icon_sad.gif

they've already said a fair few games will use it.

This isn't just an addon (IMO), the revision will come with these built in - and you won't have to buy no AAA battery

I kinda like it, especially the extra L/R triggers. Shame it doesn't increase battery life, but I guess they decided that adding another battery would also increase the weight further.

Wow, this looks awesome.

I'll probably keep it on even for games that don't use the second circle pad, as it will make it large enough to hold without getting cramped thumbs.

Apparently, Monster Hunter 3G sucks. icon_neutral.gif

Quote:
Tokyo Game Show Attendees Report that Monster Hunter 3G on 3DS Looks Worse than on Portable 3rd on PSP. Difficulty Lowered. Circle Pad Slippery

The open days of Tokyo Games Show have just ended, and the Japanese internet is already aflame with comments from attendees that aren’t exactly happy about the performance of fan favorite Monster Hunter 3G on the 3DS.

According to blogs like Koutetuoyako and several users on 2chan the graphics are less defined and more hazy than the visuals of the latest PSP counterpart (Monster Hunter Portable 3rd), and the difficulty has been lowered, probably to cater to the generally younger and more casual user base of the Nintendo 3DS.

On top of that, those that got their hands on the playable version on the show floor report that the “monstrous” circle pad attachment is too slippery due to the materials used.

There's good news though, Square-Enix have something new for 3DS.

Quote:
Square Enix just announced the development of Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D. An updated remake of the classic Terry’s Wonderland for Gameboy that will be released on the 3DS next year.

Terry’s Wonderland 3D will include all the features of it’s predecessors, plus all the monsters that came with Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 (the latest chapter of the series) and additional monsters and quests.

Apparently MH3G sucks if you listen to hear-say from a very specific group of people. I think I shall wait until there's more coverage before I start believing the cynics.

That and it's a fair ways off from release, so things can change. I'd say the circle pad feedback may be more important.

I never put the slider all the way up. I find that a third's length to halfway is the most optimal for me (and most people I think).

It varies. The slider is there as nobody sees 3D the same way as everyone else. Its also highly dependant on the game. Some people are able to start off half way, and over time build it up further as their eyes/brain adjusts, while others have to stick at the halfway point permanently as anything higher always results in a cross eye'd effect.

I usually play on maximum and for 99% of games its fine. I occasionally get very slight ghostly double vision on choice games, like Pilotwings, if my eyes lose focus of the image. It's weird. Whenever I get the double vision it's not a clean double vision, as two split images of equal clarity, but instead a very clear image with a slightly faded secondary image. Probably means one of my eyes has harder adjusting to the image than the other.

TLDR: Everyone has different eyes/brain/interpretation of a auto-stereoscopic image, so yes it is normal to only be able to see at the halfway point.

I couldn't see the 3D effect at all on full at first. I had to sit there for a couple of minutes trying to focus, and after a couple of minutes my eyes could just see the 3D image, and after then I could see it instantly. I've never played on anything but full though.

I've noticed that double-vision/ghosting thing as well. It was particularly apparent for me throughout the 'Sage' cutscenes in OoT.
Thought it was the device, never considered it might be one of my eyes.

I played it for about 15 minutes in EB swanston and went straight up to full 3D, no problems. It seems pretty gimmicky to me, though, I'm not sure if you can actually judge your depth on the field any better. Needless to say, if I buy a 3DS, it won't be for the 3D.

The 3DS's panel does actually suffer from ghosting problems when there is a high contrast between images (ie bright objects on a black background) - it's not you.

Close one eye if you don't believe me.

It seems that we won't be playing a new Smash Bros game any time soon. icon_sad.gif

Quote:
Masahiro Sakurai, creator of the Super Smash Bros. series, stated in Famitsu magazine that he and Project Sora are still hard at work on Kid Icarus: Uprising, and that the game will continue to suck up a large amount of their time until it releases later this year.

The Smash Bros. announcement may have been a little premature, according to Sakurai, and he worries that it may not be “the smartest thing to make gamers wait for several years.” Iwata, though, had a specific reason to announce the new games: to “attract new team members” to Project Sora so that production can be completed as quickly as possible.

Sakurai originally planned to start working on Super Smash Bros. 3DS right after finishing Kid Icarus: Uprising, but when the Wii U came to fruition he suddenly had the choice to bring the franchise to either platform. Sakurai – mad genius that he is – clearly couldn’t make things easy for himself, and realized that he “had to go on both platforms.”

“Project Sora had intended to make a 3DS Smash Bros. once it had finished up a game on the system and had gotten used to the hardware’s feature set. With the advent of the Wii U, though, we had a choice to make. Iwata asked us if wanted to make the next Smash Bros. on the Wii U or 3DS, and my thought was that we had to go on both platforms.”

“If we went solely for the Wii U, the HD graphics would really bump up the visual effects, but then we’d be stuck in another arms race. If we made this game another extension over previous one, we’d have to cut out the new things we could possibly do on the 3DS hardware and compete with ourselves again over the size of the character roster and the amount of gameplay we can put it. It wouldn’t be a fruitful competition, but doing something completely new would be difficult for many reasons, not least of which that the gamers may not be satisfied with it. That’s why we decided to think about ways to link the personal connection one has with his portable system to the gather-around-and-play aspect of console systems.”

“The hardest part about game development is the burdens it places upon me. With previous projects I had a game design document in place before forming a team, but with this I don’t have the time for that. I won’t be able to look at every aspect of the game and balance out all the characters by myself this time. I’m trying to think about how this is going to work out, but probably I’ll have to discuss it with my future development team. The future of this project really depends on the people I can get involved with it.”

Sakurai and his team at Project Sora certainly have a long and stressful road ahead, and hopefully the final games won’t be affected because of that. That being said, it should be at least a year before the Wii U finally launches, so they have a little bit of time — though it’s obvious (and disappointing) that Smash Bros. won’t be a Wii U launch title.

That's fairly old news now, but its pretty obvious anyway. Nintendo, when backed into a corner with nothing worth announcing, will go 'oh a smash bros is coming' and then works out every other detail - including, you know, starting the damn thing - much later.
