I was gonna say, I remember Rocklea and Fairfield getting really munted by the floods. But my friends in hilly Auchenflower? The water stopped one house away from their property line. Good times.
(Apparently the end of my old street in Windsor had water, and water came back up through the drains and munted the garage. But I was in a nice hilly area of Windsor.) _________________

South side did get hit yes, oxley, graceville and acacia ridge even, but north side suburbs were hit just as bad. Milton, auchenflower, taringa, toowong, st lucia etc.
Anywho, sure there are financial benefits of renting a bigger place, but it also means more people to follow the rules and if one person decides to leave it can put a big strain on everyone else. It's a hassle finding larger numbers of house mates.
For the record, I currently rent a 1 bedroom place in Mt Gravatt. It costs me $255/week including foxtel, but I have found that to be one of the more expensive ones around, because it's the most modern place I looked at. The demand for 1 and 2 bedroom places is quite high so good luck! _________________

Logic would say that you may have a higher chance of being able to rent at a decent price in one of the flood affected suburbs. _________________ I'd be apathetic, but I can't be arsed.

A. Friends or your partner.
B. Never move in with a stranger. Just don't do it. Remember what happened to Mitch?
C. Bond.
D. When it comes to rules, make the rules fair and reasonable.
E. Pretty much, most of the best advice has already been said. But, the best thing I can recommend to do is save your money as much as possible. Seriously, after spending approximately three years in a house with a group of friends. I knew it was time to go.
Yes, we had good times and a lot of bad times (night long parties, drug use, relationship breakdowns, theft, attempted suicide, pest problems), but I was glad to be rid of the place. One guy had to move back in with his parents, one guy is living in a studio apartment with very little in his wallet, another guy defaulted and his whereabouts are unknown and the girl moved in with a new boyfriend, but then the relationship ended.
As some of you know from my awesome "I'm back" thread. I'm living on the Gold Coast in my own one bedroom apartment and I'm enjoying the peace and quiet. Yes, living alone has both good and bad points, but the best thing is I don't have to put up with someone else and all their bad habits. _________________

Update on my situation, it's all working out pretty good, my mate found a 3rd person, so we're going to be looking for a 3 bedroom place in somewhere that starts with P (I forgot the rest, his phone call woke me up and I was sleepy). The other guy also apparently works with him, and they're short staffed atm so he says he should be able to give me a job. _________________

So that previous plan failed, but, some new questions and update.
Found a place in Kelvin Grove for $80 a week, which is insanely good, especially for the area. I checked it out today, the place is a little old and run down but overall it's not too bad and the people currently there seem nice. All mid twenties (I'm 19, fyi), two female students, one doing a phd and another doing a masters and some guy they call the adventure man that lives downstairs in the only really bad part of the house (it's moldy, full of mosquitoes, the bathroom is literally destroyed and it's just a creepy area in general), cool guy though, apparently spends a lot of time away on yachts and camping so it doesn't bother him.
They've invited me to dinner Tuesday before we confirm anything. Is this normal? I'll obviously dress well and be polite, is there anything else I should keep in mind? _________________

No idea if it is normal or not, but it seems like a good idea on their part. Get to know you a bit.
If you are eating at their place, you might want to consider bringing a plate of food. It will show that you are thoughtful to that situation and make a good initial impression (willing to work with them, etc).
I'm not sure exactly what they are looking for, but if you get the opportunity, emphasis things such as paying bills on time, keeping normal hours and/or considerate for out of hours activities (using headphones when gaming at night), etc. Being 19 doesn't work to your advantage, so they may have some concerns there.
Btw, this is coming from someone who has never rented.

One bit of advice from my experiences. Don't be too focused on if they like you. Your the one who will have to live with them. Try to get a good feeling about what they are like.
In saying that, it takes weeks of living with other people before you really know what they are like. _________________
