Stanford University is offerring a free online course for Artificial Intelligence over the next 3 months. It's like the course they teach for real at the uni. Something like 60,000 people have signed up so far (including me). No programming skills required (but they can't hurt). There's a basic (videos + quizzes) or advanced (same + homework + two exams) tracks to pick from.

Come join in!

I withdrew from my A.I unit at uni coz it was too focussed on video games, excited to join this, thanks for the heads up.

Stanford has a well-regarded reputation in the AI research field, thanks to SAIL. In its heydey, SAIL was up there with MIT and Berkeley in terms of educating the people that would then go on to shape the modern technology industry, as well as providing a lot of the influence on what's known as hacker culture.

So that gives you an idea of the academic pedigree behind this course.

if you did methods or specialist back in VCE and got a decent study score, you'd probably be able to get away with spending about 10 hours/week on it (assuming you aren't rusty on probability and algebra).

i only did further maths in VCE, but i'm picking up the pre-requisites relatively easily from the physics based units i did at BHI

@genxevo: The basic one shouldn't take more than a couple of hours a week (to watch the videos). Advanced will be 10+ hrs/week. There's related material to help on background stuff available right now (might need to be signed in to see it)

@Feral: VCE? BHI?

Oh yeah, VLOOKUP. I'm currently working on a project that involves fixing an Excel spreadsheet that is being used like a form. VLOOKUP, referencing hidden cells, IF in IF in IF in IF in IF (repeat many times over), trying to find named range which is from another sheets, hidden sheets, LEFT, it's madness!

Back to trying to get this spreadsheet fixed at work.

lulz! I feel for you iWolf. There is nothing worse than trying to use someone elses Excel workbook. And named ranges are the devil! Just reference the flipping cells, at least then I can see what is being used.

Although RIGHT and LEFT are pretty handy sometimes icon_smile.gif

Enrollment for this opened today, who is still keen icon_smile.gif

I've joined the basic Machine Learning (for fun) and Intro to Databases (for work) courses. Hopefully a few of you are also in these classes and we can form a nerd group to help each other out.

Enrollment for the AI class has been open since I posted this thread? Unless you mean 'this' as in the DB and Machine Learning courses you mentioned.

Not sure I want to do three uni subjects at once while working full time (and gaming part time). I'll stick to just the AI one for now =)

I'm doing the database one as revision, I looked at the course content and it seems pretty identical to the database unit I did at uni so that should be okay =)

A.I one looks interesting but I'm worried about the machine learning one. I looked at some of the maths presentations and thought **** since I graduated from a uni where the head of the computer science said to the lecture room "the problem with this uni is that we don't focus on maths, but you guys don't really want to learn maths right?" -_-
