Part 4
Hellraiser
Probably my fave since the first one. The Alan Smithiee credit is kind of undeserved. The Toymaker (Space version) was pretty rad. Pinhead was back to being an ominous fuck rather then a cheap slasher villain from part 3. The history of the box was interesting. The daemon chick seemed kind of superfluous to the entire story though. If it wasn't for the twins I'd say that entire middle section could be cut. But then we'd miss out on the twins and that was awesome. Probably my fave cenobite from the films. (And I'm sure that probably has something to do with me catching this film as a kid and the image of them getting twisted together being scarred in my mind)
Honestly I'd be satisfied with this as the end to the series. (Although I'm still curious about Leviathan from the second movie)
Friday the 13th
FUCK YEAH TITTIES! FUCK YEAH CRISPIN GLOVER! ... and corey feldman? I was fully prepared to hate Corey Feldman in this, and did for the most part. But fuckin' A he redeemed himself at the end. Great movie, lots of nice kills. Again the most fun movie of the night. Loved the dog who's main reaction was "Oh shit I'm out of here" jumps out a window and just dissapeares after Jason turns up. Smartest character in the movie. Followed... surprisingly by Corey Feldman. Who takes Jason down, then continues to wale on his head with a machette Fucking bout damn time.
Also holy shit that kill shot for Jason was hardcore.
Nightmare on Elm st
Redeemed itself after the last one but just barely. The karate dude was pretty bad in his complete inability to do anything resembling karate, and the working out chicks hair was hilarious. But Freddy showing up on a beach with sunnies and kicking the chick in the head as she tried to escape quicksand made up for anything wrong with the movie. Seriously if they'd included this in the last movie I would have forgiven it.
I mean... that is just amazing. The rest of it was good and all but fuck. Just look at that .gif _________________

yep - Larry Fishburne was how he went from Apocalypse Now, and well into the 90s too, as per:

Reservoir Dogs
Finally seen every single Tarantino film. I'd rate this one in 2nd place behind Pulp Fiction. Quentin Tarantino is in my opinion one of the best directors around today. It's amazing that Reservoir Dogs was his first proper feature film and he managed to pull a cast like that together.

Tarantino is the god of making otherwise mundane, unexciting conversation strangely fascinating and alluring. _________________

So true but there's something about his screen presence that makes me laugh. Probably why From Dusk Till Dawn was so good.

Source Code
What a steaming pile of disappointment. A medicore movie with terrible pacing and a 'twist' thrown in at the end. I'm not expecting anything at all scientifically accurate, but the lightbulb leaving a glow reference was just painful. Reminds me of the Futurama episode they make fun of Star Trek. A shame too, because I'd been keeping my eye on this one, could have been good. Anyway, avoid it. _________________

Submarine
Think of it as a Welsh Wes Anderson film and you'd be quite close. Written and directed by Richard Ayoade (Moss from IT Crowd), Submarine is a coming of age story about an eccentric 15 year old discovering love for the first time whilst trying to keep his parents together.
Basic plot which hurts the film a bit but there's enough creativity there to keep you captivated for the full 90. If you're a fan of these Indy type films, it's well worth checking out. _________________

Eh. I thought Source code was OK. If you ignored the story, it made for a passable action film. Sure there are plenty of better films, but there are plenty worse films, as well.

Source Code is fine. It kind of feels like an ambitious Sci fi movie made into a mainstream flick and when you look at it that way I think it works. Also I don't think Source Code had any action whatsoever or at least none that I remember.

Decent action film? Aside from a few explosions, I can't think of any action either. And no, it's not nearly the worst thing ever, I've seen much worse. It's just that it could have been much more. I would still advise people to avoid it though. _________________

Bad Teacher
Cameron Diaz is a self-centred lazy b***h who only has one goal in life, marry a rich man for his money. Think of it as Bad Santa but with a female. Ordinary.

Nietzsche described it best. This movie was basically like a new version of Deja Vu and Frequency, a solid but fairly shallow Hollywood Sci-Fi thriller. Worth a look if you're into that kind of thing but if you really want to see a good Sci-Fi I wouldn't make this a priority. Solid. _________________

A good black comedy with a twist I didn't see coming. Brad Pitt was excellent in this role. Overall quite enjoyed it.

So we slacked off and only did Friday the 13th this week.
Friday the 13th part 5.
Dude holy shit. At first it's doing all the set up of little kid grown up and it's plodding along really slowly and meh. Me and shan are sitting there thinking "Fuck, this movie could really go with some Jason right about now" as we're watching a dude failing utterly at chopping wood. Then HOLY SHIT DID HE JUST FLIP OUT AND AXE THAT DUDE IN THE FACE?! Nah man it's gotta be a fake out or something, wait now the ambulance and the police are here? No man shit he just flipped the fuck out and killed that dude. AWESOME.
The rest of the movie also had some great kills, although generally it kept cutting away so we didn't get to see the details. Like the dude getting his head crushed with a belt or the chick getting her eyes chopped out with garden sheers. But they're still some of my fave kills from the series so far in this movie. A little disappointing since it SPOILERSIsn't actually Jason But still great entry into the series.
We didn't watch others since we started late and watched
Black Dynamite first.
Man this movie has been on my 'to watch' list for ages. God damm it didn't disappoint. Everything about it was just perfect. I was beginning to think the ending was dragging on for too long after he went to the white out but the final fight more then made up for it. Jesus I can't even say why this movie is so great cause every single scene in it was fucking brilliant. From his brothers horrible attempt at doing a gheto accent, to the animated sex scene to... fuck EVERYTHING about this movie is great. _________________

Fargo
After watching The Big Lebowski a few weeks back I've been really into the Coen brother's films and saw Fargo the other night for the first time. It would be my favorite thus far. Their writing is so clever and funny even when the subject matter is dark like in Fargo.
Steve Buscemi was great in this and I had no idea how good of an actor he is in serious roles. I didn't realize this until watching Boardwalk Empire, I mostly saw his cameo roles in Adam Sandler flicks before that.
Overall a superb film.

dude you need to watch more Steve Beucemi then, the mans amazing.
Back into the swing of things this weekend.
Hellraiser part 5
Honestly. Better then I expected. Although I can totally see where the complaints of 'these are unrelated horror movies that studios have just thrown Pinhead into' comes from. This movie didn't really need pinhead or the box. It didn't really tie into any of the themes from the others about the box and cenobites exploring the limits of pain/pleasure etc. But it was a pretty decent film about a detective dude going insane. And honestly I think the new cenobites for the film were pretty great designs, I'd rate them above the originals. In fact compared to them Pinhead seemed kind of plain by comparison. Well except for the eyeless serial killer one. He was kind of plain. But Torso Boy and the Twins were great. Hell Torso Boy looked like something out of a guilmer del toro film.
It also had a great couple of moments of just being really creepy without being scary or gory. (Walking into the poker room full of cowboys)
Also there is a scene with ninja cowboys wich is just as retarded as it sounds. Even more so coming with the tone of the movie.
Overall, surprising good film. I was expecting a lot worse from it.
Nightmare on Elm st 5
Watching it now from my new Blu-ray set of the movies. Quality wasn't noticeably different though. Was decent enough, but I'm kind of getting sick of Campy jokey Freddy. (Super Freddy? Really?) I liked him better back in 2 where he still had a smart arse sense of humor but was also just really fucking intimidating. He's kind of grown to be just irritating. The effects also seemed a bit lamer too. Baby Freddy looked dumb. The deaths were decent enough. (Although the comic dudes death was kind of lame). Overall pretty average to be honest.
Friday the 13th part 6
Ok wow, they went straight retarded in this movie. And it was amazing Freddy doing a james bond parody? Him smacking some dudes face leaving a bloody smiley print in a tree? 3 in 1 Decaptiations? So good! Shame they ruined tommy though, he was the best part of the last movie. I guess they dropped the idea of him being the next Jason? Shame I rekkon that would have been cool. (Although I'm glad to see the real Jason back in action)
Jason was awesome in it, he didn't seem to give a fuck about hiding anymore just standing around outside of windows. The deaths were fucking great and damm plentiful. Plus we finally get zombie Jason. It's taken 6 movies but Jason is finally at the point of what I picture in my mind when I think of him. It seems they've finally gotten the point that no one gives a shit about any attempt at story or characterization, just give us Jason killing the fuck out of a lot of people and have some fun with it. Probably my fave so far. _________________

I agree. Jason was real badass in this and it makes his character so much better. _________________

Horrible Bosses
Kevin Spacey was the best thing from this movie. I didn't find many laughs from this and I kind of wish it focused more on the dark comedy.

The Thing (2011)
Doesn't come close to John Carpenter's adaption but it's still a worthy prequel. It all felt a little bit too cliche and predictable and there wasn't much setting it apart from every other sci-fi horror. The CGI looked... well computer generated. I think the 82' film actually had far better special effects and it was more memorable such as the defibrillator scene. It's not a terrible movie, I genuinely found it pretty intense and scary, but it didn't quite meet my expectations. 7.5/10
No Country For Old Men
My god, this movie was chilling. I was on the edge of my scene during some scenes. Chigurh is absolutely psychotic. I loved the weapons used like the silence shotgun (is that even possible?) and the pressure canister. This movie is almost perfection and my favorite film from the Coen's thus far. 9.5/10

Snowtown. HOLY CRAP.
Oh my god. I don't care what anyone else says...this is THE WORST FILM I've seen in a while. I'll go out and call it worst film of 2011. I know Jarrod gave it a good review so I'm willing to debate this, or with anyone else that likes this film.
Okay, I'm going to delve into why I hated this film, but let me remind you, I've seen over 1000 films, a fan of all genres and have seen alot. I say that because I don't want people thinking I'm just this Michael Bay dude who just wants heaps of violence in films and things pointed out in big letters for me. Violence can serve a purpose in film, and I welcome different types of storytelling.
Films should tell a story (oh god I'm doing a Harry Knowles, forgive me), or at least deliver a piece of art which can be interpreted by audiences to understand a message or provoke thought. What the hell did this film tell me? The film just assumes we already know about the Snowtown murders. I did not, and had to research them online to learn about them. Wikipedia told a better story then this film did. So we get this kid's thoughts on this? No, not at all. How many shots of the kid looking sad at crap do we need? HOLY CRAP, I GET IT. THE KID IS DEPRESSED or whatever. So the film tells segments from parts of this kid's crappy life. This film seems like segments are missing from it. It was like watching Pootie Tang.
This is what Australian films have turned into. This over dramatic boring crap. Part 2 of this rant coming soon... _________________
