Tighter than BC2, but still has a bit of a BC2 vibe. Hit rego is still average and it has typical post-release DICE glitches, but nonetheless it's absolutely a successor to BF2. Also the unlocks are amazing.
Oh and Bipods! BIPODS FOR LMGS. I ACTUALLY FEEL LIKE A SUPPORT CLASS NOW. _________________

The 360 beta is broken. Trying to play for the last 2 hours and it either freezes or there is unplayable rubber-band lag. Disappointed.

Alright so I've played just about 10 hours of this, am nearly level 21 and have lost sleep. Impressions!
Like:
-Battlelog. It's awesome. The interface is so easy to use and gets you in-game straight away. I enjoy the fact that it's in a browser too.
-Visuals. Looks good, very good. Superb texture work, great animations and particle and lighting is fantastic. While it's not leaps and bounds ahead of other high-tier PC titles, it's definitely ahead technically. Optimisation is actually quite good for what it's doing really, with 3150x1680 res with an OC'd CPU getting about 30-40 fps (though it still tends to feel slow due to more bottlenecking), and the res below that getting pretty much constant 60 especially with the OC in play.
-Sound. Holy wow this game sounds good. I don't know a game that actually sounds more crisp than this one really. Gunshots sound meaty and realistic and the echo of bullets through dark tunnels is utterly insane. Incredible work here.
-It has a good learning curve. I like the fact that when I started playing, I wasn't straight up destroying people due to previous FPS experience particularly in the competitive scenes. I had to adjust to the style of the game and while initially I was getting frustrated at the proning snipers that do nothing but that (though more on that later), I've gotten used to sniper fire and my movement has become a lot more methodical in approach. It's steep, but not steep enough to drive people away.
-Overall feel. It just feels good to play. It's tighter and more responsive than BC2, and while I still take issue with the hit registration, it is overall a significant improvement to BC2. Unlocks are plentiful and rewarding, and each weapon feels different to one another and none feel overpowered. Once you hit the right weapon for you it all just clicks in.
Do not like
-Map design, or the choice of map for the beta. Metro is not a great map to show off Battlefield. While I like a good portion of it, particularly the tunnels and final areas, the beginning part is utter shit and has glitches where you can fall in invisible holes in the ground. It has too much of a bias towards the defending team which makes attacking extremely difficult. Snipers can pick you off from ages away due to elevation advantages, and there are a horde of bushes where people can prone and hide in, so being ambushed while on the offensive is super common and super easy.
The tunnels and industrial area after this section? Totally fine. But currently Metro is bugged out at the start and not well designed for balanced play.
-Hit rego is still not good enough. Like I said, it's been improved significantly, but there are still moments of utter failure where you will unload entire fucking clips into people only to be one shot by them when they turn around and hit you. It is retarded and considering how big this game is and how much hype is behind it, this should not be in the game at all.
-The player base and the lack of teamplay is infuriating. Battlefield is a team based game with team based objectives, NOT a sniper hero dickweed ****** cunt Modern Warfare no scoping fuckfest. Proning and sniping all day long when you're on the attacking team is NOT okay, because it ends the game far quicker and literally adds nothing to the value of the team. I've been in countless games where I see some of my squad mates sitting back at spawn sniping, and yep we end up losing because there's another good bunch of dudes who do the same.
Note to anyone who does this: no one gives a flying goddamned fuck about your KDR and your fragile ego is worth nothing online. Play the game how it should be played and not to fuel your pathetic online ego. You want to no-scope and do fancy high accuracy shots? Jump on Quake Live and learn that, because that's where you can be a soloist, though I doubt you'd last very long at all. Otherwise fuck off.
-General glitches. Game still has bugs to iron out and such, and hopefully DICE sort it all out before retail.
Overall
It's a great game and very fun to play online. While I'm disappointed in the fact that we can't play with vehicles or play in bigger, more battlefield-esque maps for the beta, I'm very much looking forward to seeing how that all plays out.
Good stuff. _________________

I find it strange that they removed the APC that the attackers had at the start.
Hopefully it gets put back in. _________________

Don't worry about the everyone out for themselves thing. Being in a good squad fixes a lot of those problems.
One thing that does concern me is I just get the feeling they are pushing this out quickly to compete with MW3. I know that it will come good with patches and what not but I doubt this will be balanced on release although hardly any DICE game is.

Apparently the beta is missing the highest graphical option? Someone even said that high and ultra look the same, proving that the true "ultra" is missing.

The open beta for 360 is now available. I found it by searching games by the letter (B) in the marketplace.
EDIT: It appears to have be taken off again. What I am guessing is they are only allowing a certain amount of downloads at one time. So it only appears on the marketplace after the max number has dropped. Someone on twitter said they got it a couple of hours before me too. _________________

Mine's working fine, maybe there's just too many on at the moment. I've been on since 5pm and it hasn't disconnected me.
The beta still isn't up, and it's 3.1GB anyway, trying to find a link to the beta client another way but no luck so far... it's probably not going to finish downloading until 3am.

All I want is to play 64 player Caspian Border for free. Is that so much to ask EA? _________________

Got on but now have to wait 3 hours .
Right now buying I'm kind of regretting just not buying Medal of Honor.
Just read the minimum specs. The thing needs Vista or Windows 7. Dammit I am screwed. Is one game enough for me to do a clean install?

It's tiny on PS3 at barely above 1GB. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

I just played Caspian Border. Excuse the redness, flux was on.
It's not actually official yet but there are test servers and they're passworded.
I'm not giving the pw out here as I don't want it to leak in the open and get changed again, but PM me if ya want and I'll give it over.
Also, holy fuck. The scale is AMAZING. This is exactly what BF3 is. _________________

Alright so, found a bug with the video settings. Didn't remove the AA when I told it to unless you reset the game. Now it's gone though annnnd I can run it at max res, constant 50-60fps smooth on Ultra.
Holy ffffffffff.

Origin store completely dead the second 10pm ticked over, who would've thought? Client from Internode doesn't work either because it still asks for a beta key. Origin is useless, almost as bad as Steam.

It plays pretty well on my 6950. Everything at ultra, 4x MSAA, HBAO, post processing high and I get around 30-60FPS but generally averages around 35-40.

Can't get it working.
Pre-downloaded the beta and can't get it to show up on Origin.
The beta isn't showing up within the store either, the store isn't even showing up at the moment.
Pagan did you find a workaround for the product key or did you re-download it through Origin?

Put the Battlefield 3 folder that you downloaded into C:/Program Files(x86)/Origin Games. Open Origin go to the store, free games then download the beta client like you normally would. Now it should skip straight ahead to installing and you'll be ready to play.
