That is literally what EA is trying to do, and they've said that Call of Duty is their primary market competition.

I don't know why anybody would think BF3's single player will be anything different from Call of Duty anyway. It will be the exact same linear, scripted cinematic set piece run that you see in these sorts of games. That's not a criticism, that's just what its going to be. MW3 and BF3's campaign will be largely indistinguishable.

Battlefield's unique qualities and spectacular gameplay shines in multiplayer, not campaigns.
