I've been avoiding screenshots but it does look very nice. I'm a bit worried my 6950 won't quite cut it.

looks like i might have to skip the pc version icon_cry.gif
i finally get it to a point good enough for some games, and thinking it might just be enough, but after reading those requirements i have very little chance of playing it on my computer.
fingers crossed they bundle a new compture with the game for under $100 icon_lol.gif

It's got a slip about the BF3 beta in the case. Basically every edition that EB sold was Tier 1 (IIRC) so if you bought it new from there you should be in for early access.

The case should also say Tier 1 Edition under the title too IIRC.

I've got a GTX 560ti (which I bought for this! I should've just went and got the GTX580 instead... ^&$%!) so I'm bummed I can't get max settings (or probably could but won't be as smooth). Speculation on the Internets say the recommended specs only get you to medium settings and a decent framerate. I guess we'll find out once the beta lands.

I think we'll probably get by on medium/high settings at 1920x1080. I wonder if it'll take advantage of more than 1GB of VRAM.

Easy.

Also, this is a game that was pretty much designed to be future proof like the original Crysis. Not sure why people are surprised at its recommended specs.

It'll be interesting pushing this game in Eyefinity with my 6990. Max power!

Recommended = medium settings, and 2 x GTX570 suggested for Ultra.

My poor, poor single GTX 570.

Will play on ultra anyway regardless of framerate.

Ultra might include supersampling or some other resource intensive setting. I would be very surprised if my rig wouldn't at least get 20-30FPS (which is acceptable for me) on very high/ultra. I guess we'll find out when the beta arrives. I'm excited for it.

First time I played through Morrowind was on an nVidia TNT2. I'm pretty sure that experience made me immune to jaggies and low framerates.

I'll definitely be playing on Ultra (or at least try to) in the campaign but will probably drop to high or medium in multi - anything that will give me a good FFA drags really. Should be interesting to see how this all pans out.

Aw, I was hoping the PC I'm going to eventually build would be able to max this, but it sounds like a 6970 (or whatever the equivalent 7000 series card is) won't be able to run it maxed? That kinda sucks :\

You'll be able to max it out, but it won't run at a high fps, just turn it down to console resolution and it shouldn't be a problem icon_smile.gif

Keep in mind this could be a situation like The Witcher 2, where one or two specific graphical options murder the framerate. If there's a Battlefield 3 equivalent to ubersampling going on, you'll be able to switch that off and pretty much double your fps.

But then that kind of defeats the purpose of building a PC solely for gaming. At least by the time I I build it there will be a lot of benchmarks so I'll be able to (hopefully) build something with performance I am happy with.

That's kind of the point of PC gaming though. Consoles have always been about peace of mind. You know no matter what the graphics like, where the framerate sits, what resolution it runs in, or how it controls, you can buy the game, stick it in, it will work, and you cant change a thing.

There are a ton of extra variables with PC gaming that means some games are going to be much harder to max out others. Sometimes a 'gaming PC' that works well for 90% of games will be crippled by another. But the bonus you get is that you're still ahead of the console curve. Even if you can truly max out the game, the settings you'll be using will still do laps around whatever the console versions are set at.

Crysis buckled high end computers all those years ago and it looks like Battlefield 3 will do the same.

Not to mention you get to play on bigger maps, with more players on the PC version, and maxed out at console resolution it will still look a crap tonne better thanks to AA, texture size and shader improvements only doable on the master race edition.

The PC version is cheaper too! It's funny when you pay less and get a much better product.

You're comparing PC Gaming to literally the only game that is future proofing so hard that you need heavy firepower to max it.

The specs are and should be a non-issue because they were telling us from the start that they will push PC's to their knees, and the only people who can max it with zero worry are the ultra high-end users.

Also I'm confident a 6970 will get near max. It's a non-issue.

I was a little upset when i first saw the Recommended specs, my video card (GTX 460) is the only concern. If i can still play it and get it to run ala Bad Company 2 on pc, i'll be happy.

Its funny when buying my pc in November last year i thought i'd be safe for a while, but to see games now creeping up in ram requirements also creeping up (i have 6gb.... still alright for now). I will be having to upgrade before too long if i want to stay current.

Yeah, people often forget that the advantages of PC processing power isn't just limited to the higher resolution and extra graphical detail. That processing power goes towards better data streaming, bigger maps, more assets on screen at once, and more calculations overall.

It's not so much the graphics (well, it is, to a degree) that really separates BF3 PC from consoles. It's sixty four player conquest that really couldn't be done.
