Project Noels - BlazBlue Music App For The Vita!
| Quote: | A few weeks back, Arc System Works' Hiroyuki Masuno said that he was hoping to make a music player for the PlayStation Vita once work on BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend was completed. It turns out he was already making this music player, and its name is: Project NOELS. Project NOELS is a download exclusive PlayStation Vita app which promises to infuse rhythm game elements into a music visualization program. The app gets its name from BlazBlue's Noel Vermillion.
The download for the main player app will be a mere 10 megabytes, Arc says. The app will also be expanded with download content. |

So, the Vita has been said to have 3 to 5 hours of battery life. Sony want to make that a bit more flexible though, by offering an external battery pack.
| Quote: | | Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed to IGN that the company intends to introduce an external battery peripheral for the Vita, which should expand the device’s three- to five-hour battery life into more comfortable territory. In his words, “if you’re flying from New York to San Francisco or vice versa, you’ll have no concerns.” Those transcontinental flights typically take around six hours, but for us to have “no concerns,” we’d expect the battery-augmented Vita to last for at least seven. |
Edit:
* New PlayStation Vita Details about Flash, Memory Cards, Remote Play and Multitasking.
| Quote: | Multitasking
PlayStation Vita was developed with multitasking in mind. Because of the high degree of network integration with the device, Sony felt that multitasking would be particularly important.
The game operation space and general application space are separate. In general, applications can be made to run simultaneous with a game. Applications include things like clients for Twitter, Near and the web browser.
Impress Watch asked if multitasking will have any negative effects on games. Apps will absolutely not be given priority over games, said Matsumoto, so there won't be any negative effect. The game operation environment is given priority.
Flash and Web Browsing
The system's web browser is Webkit based. Asked about Flash support, Matsumoto said "At the present time, I will give a No Comment."
Remote Play
This isn't actually part of the Matsumoto interview, but Impress Watch noted in its writeup that Sony had demonstrated during its keynote address yesterday how the Vita can be used as a remote play device to play back recorded videos from PS3's torne DVR kit. Torne is scheduled to be given an update in December. It's likely that the update will add in the Vita support.
Privacy
Regarding the system's Near app, which is used to share information with other players and get various stats about your current region, Matsumoto assured that players can choose to turn this on or off. Also, the system has privacy settings, allowing you to make your information public to friends, friends of friends, everyone, and so-forth. It seems that you can also make game specific settings -- like telling the Vita not to let people know you're playing certain games.
Memory Cards
Vita uses an exclusive form of Memory Card for storage. While games can allocate space on their own game cards for saving, if you want to purchase downloadable games, or store music and movies, you'll need to buy one of these cards. (For pricing, see this story). The reason Sony used Vita specific Memory cards instead of the generic options offered for PSP is because of security concerns.
Vita in Control
The Vita has a built in app for transferring data between your PC and PS3. This is different from the PSP, where the controlling party was the PC or PS3, and the PSP was just like a generic storage device. |

I want to be excited for Vita, but with the current game lineup, it is challenging
It's predominately Japanese targeted titles, which I guess is understandable when only EA and Ubisoft are the western developers from the game list on the previous page, even then it seems to be just FIFA and Rayman.
The hardware itself looks quite capable, and dual sticks pioneers the way for better controlling FPS titles on handheld, it's just the game library I'm concerned about. _________________

wipeout. ridge racer. uncharted. gravity daze. lumines. FFX MvsCapcom
I'd hardly call it japanese targeted. I'm personally glad its not a FPS ghetto. There's a variety of genres - jrpg, racer, future racer, puzzler. actioners.
Its got a bloody fantastic launch selection and as a gamer; I'm pretty excited for it. _________________

Pretty much how I feel. The tech is, well, perfect for a dedicated portable gaming system. You really cant get much better. But of the ~100 games announced I can count the ones I really want on one hand, and only a couple of those I'd consider worth buying the system for.
But I dont really want FPS (I know its getting Call of Duty, eventually), I'm just not interested in the ports, nor the Japanese centric games like JRPGs. Wipeout and probably Army Corps of Hell are the most interesting at this point, in my opinion. _________________

... Your kidding right? All those games you mentioned (except for Gravity Daze) can be played on other systems.
As a piece of gaming hardware, I'm finding the Vita very impressive. In terms of the actual games, I'm finding it pretty weak. _________________

I own one port and have no intentions of buying another, and have been pretty vocal about how I'm sick of ports, but nice try.
EDIT: I've also made it clear that the 3DS line-up is pretty terrible. _________________

All thoses games are sequels, and not the 2nd or 3rd.
The problem is they are releasing the games on both PS3 and Vita. Why would you buy it on Vita? It's the same concept exactly with the PSP which why I think it could struggle. What is the cost going to be for the games? If it's going to be $80 AU+, is anybody really going to buy these games other then hardcore followers?
My dream is for them to release 'dual' packs which has both vita and PS3 verisons (with cloud saves etc), so it will literally be an extension of the PS3. If they can do that, it would be awesome. _________________ Shin J Leon.
