So long as we aren't forced to buy expensive map packs through the year, adding even more to the cost... **sigh**

Basically Activision wants to raise the retail price of a game. The Hardened edition is really the standard version which makes the standard version sub-standard. _________________

So if you get the Hardened Edition, you don't have to pay anything extra to get the full Elite experience, yes?
And as for elite, you mention the word "premium" in the article - does that mean there are different levels of Elite membership? (like there is Silver and Gold Xbox Live?)

I reckon that it's more about offering people a slightly higher quality of service at a cost to help cover what I can only imagine would be a hefty amount of dosh that they spend running servers. _________________

It didn't specify but I'm assuming the word premium is only used to differentiate between playing CoD online for free (which you can still do) and playing with the Elite subscription...if that makes sense.
It's still a load of bollocks as far as I'm concerned. _________________

You get a one year subscription.

IIRC when it was first announced, they said there would be a free version and a pay version.

So if you miss out on the hardened expect to be paying $185 a year to play Cod online with all the perks, more if you're a XBL player and lets face it you'll have to go through the same thing again next year, all of a sudden this is seeming beyond stupid,
Activision need to explain there pricing model to Australians, I mean its $50usd for the same subscription and $60usd for the same game.
I was hoping for the day when the likes of Steam became mainstream and DL gaming meant that we would pay fair prices but Activision charge us crazy amounts compared to the US for a digital copy, fuck this company, I dont need to play there games that badly, Ill have fun with all the other titles coming out this year.

Battlefield 3 - i <3 you - and i have never been a huge Battlefield fan (at least on console, the pc editions rock my socks)
Will not be purchasing Modern Warfare 3, Activision can go and get stuffed!

Bad pricing system IMO. The elite service is a load of rubbish, there's countless games that give you that kind of information for free all the time. I've got to say valve's price model with tf2 is the second to none. Free to download, and maps are always free, so people can always play everyone. I'd rather have a choice to buy hats and weapons than be forced to buy maps to play fuller servers.

Just made that COD or Battlefield decision a whole lot easier for me, as a casual player I'll give this COD version a miss.

So what do you get for $66? Stat tracking and a couple of DLC maps?
Not that I was planning to buy MW3, but that's enough to buy another whole game... _________________

It's quite simple people, just don't buy it and send a message to them.

I'm disappointed that they are not offering a PC version of the Hardened edition, not because I want the crappy physical packaging, but it will mean the combined DLC will end up costing PC users more than their underlings.
With CoD4 the PC map packs were delayed but free in patch, with this crap we don't even get an option to get the version which includes elite and the map packs at a cheaper price. _________________

This has just put me off getting MW3 completely. It's great that this year D!CE will be giving Activision a does of reality. Battlefield 3 all the way.

Its just rediculous, this tiered pricing. What happened to games coming out as is? I mean DLC is one thing but this ****, this is getting rediculous. No matter if it upsets balance or not, there will now be gamers who 'have' and who 'have not' on the same battlefield.
I also cant satnd how this style of game is turning into a sport. Thats a personal taste thing though... but man, they overdo it. _________________

I can't believe that it hasn't been criticised that they plan to release OVER 20 pieces of DLC for MW3 which says includes new maps, spec ops, missions and game modes.
However i am probably one of the few that is interested in this - only because i am picking up the hardened edition for about ~$110. But i think i am the winner here since i seem to be one of the few that will enjoy both BF3 and MW3.
Also more information about elite and DLC is here: http://www.callofduty.com/elite/whats-included.html

I'm glad I'm not interested in the CoD series because that's a bit much. I'll stick with B3 I think.
