You lost me at the 2nd paragraghs rant, what were you last picked for the Aussie Rules team at school? still hurtin'?
As a Kiwi living in here its actually quite clear Aussies are infact very multi-coded with their winter sport support, AFL, NRL, Super Rugby and Football(Soccer) all feature strong support here, Unlike NZ's one-eyed Rugby fascination. _________________

Haha, exactly the reaction I was expecting...but I never expected the humour/observation to translate very well.
I'll put it to you like this (in fear of starting a pointless debate), when the "footie" takes priority over the tenth anniversary of 9/11, then I have a problem with it. Readers of The Age will understand. And as for the back pages of The Herald Sun...jesus christ :/
Also the people I work with (not here), are terribly cliched. DOGGIES, YEEEEEHHH ROOOOIIIIGHTTT!!! Stuff like that.
It's difficult to explain if you're not seeing it from an outsider's perspective. _________________

It's difficult to explain even if you've grown up in Melbourne all your life! One thing I will say for our AFL supporters is that they don't partake in the riots and alcohol-infused violent behaviour (on a grand scale) typified by soccer (yes, I know, 'football') fans.
I digress! Nice review, Cian. My experience with ice hockey games is restricted to good old Wayne Gretzky 64.

NBA 2K11 is a better sports game than this for the end game highlight reels alone.

I will be picking this up like I do every year since 94.
I loved the demo, the slight gameplay changes are great, especially in front of the net and also the free flowing puck.
The only setback is that I bet there will be 1000000 interference calls now you can wallop the goaltender.
The changes to be a pro I'm really looking forward to playing with. I hope that you can request trades or be involved with trades etc.
How is the online? Is it the same as last years? Is it smooth vs. North Americans? _________________ XBL - myzz

It doesn't jitter around like FIFA, if that's what you're asking. Although there is a noticeable second delay so defending can be tricky at times, you should be able to manage ok with the offence though. Hopefully a few locals pick it up and stick with it, I'll be playing it well into next year.
If you're on XBL then you can add me for a game (I'm rubbish): Bushy Wookiee _________________

Ridiculous "commentary" in that second paragraph. I assume you're not a bogan if you only indulge in competitions based overseas? Just absurd and completely irrelevant to the review of this game.
I can't think of a footy fan that doesn't enjoy other sports in addition to their, as you put it, obesity and alcohol-fuelled obsession with their native game. Surprised you didn't throw in a broad, sweeping generalisation on dental hygiene while you were hitting those heights.
Haven't played this yet, but I'd be surprised if it has replaced the benchmark NBA 2K11 set.

I considered it, but Irish teeth are notoriously yellow so I'm in no position to judge.
I'd love to show you where I work, a place where footy is the only sport and you're pretty much labelled as an outcast if you don't follow it. Don't get me wrong, I have no issue whatsoever with people supporting their native sport, it's natural and it's to be expected, but there's no balance here. You'd be lucky to find two pages of information on the Rugby World Cup in most papers...you know, an event that only takes place every four years. But instead you get fifteen pages of AFL and every other sport in the world is crammed into the remaining five. And you know I'm right on that point.
Sorry if I offended y'all, it's just what I've noticed over the past four years here. It's a shame because if it wasn't for the majority of supporters, I actually wouldn't mind following AFL, but I have zero tolerance of ignorance in sport. Drives me crazy, and it's rife in Melbourne which is ironic seeing as it's the 'capital of sport'. Maybe I just need to get out of the eastern suburbs...actually scrap that, maybe it's just Ringwood? That might explain it. _________________
