I assume they're in the process of pressing up more discs, hence the delay. I still haven't seen copies of this at JB or EB, it's like it never came out. _________________

Finally received this game on Wednesday. My god.
The game is wonderful. The artistic vision, the smooth combat mechanics and the voice acting are brilliant. And the soundtrack is so majestic.
Unlike most RPG's, online or otherwise, you visit the first town and there's about 4 or 5 introductory quests for you to do. Visit Colony 9 in Xenoblade and there's like 30+. And the battle system is what FF12's failed to be, although I'm still learning good rotations for Reyn (I just prioritize Hammer Blow currently, then spam the rest).
Got up to the Bionis' Leg last night and I'm just enjoying running around the very very large maps. I love games like this (which is why I prefer a lot of MMO's these days).
A lot of people think Deus Ex: HR is their GOTY. Fuck that. Xenoblade Chronicles is mine.

Of course after Bionis Leg every map looks generic and bland _________________

Wow people weren't kidding when they said there are A LOT of sidequests in this game, I'm a bit overwhelmed. I think I'll take my time to really explore and be immersed in this world. The ability to skip to locations and adjust the time is extremely convenient.
I like Shulk so far, he just seems like an average nerd to me...I can dig it. Sure beats a moody/emo protagonist any day of the week.
The graphics are...well, it looks quite bad at times, but perfectly fine on other occasions (eg when the camera is at the feet, looking up). Not a big deal though, just needs getting used to. _________________

I'm still only in the 2nd area and accumulated over 20+ hours. Because of the massive amount of quests I've been completing, I'm now extremely overleveled, usually 10+ more than the common monsters in the area.
Not that I care, it just means I can Backslash an enemy for a one hit KO.

My Diablo style approach of customising my characters (pour all points into one skill), has finally come back to bite me.
Currently in the swamp and doing a quest inside a fortress. Therein lies a very nasty lizard elite who just happens to be my level (the first time I've seen something near my party's average) and the guy pelts me with Talent Art after Talent Art.
I guess that's what I get for ignoring the Monado's powers. Although I have a sneaking suspicion that Shield is a rubbish skill compared to Speed.

did you enter the fortress from the side door or did you charge in from the front? I want to know what you get for doing it properly by entering it from the side =p _________________

Holy crap, 4 hours in and I am loving it. Colony 9 is massive, I could have easily spent 10 hours just doing the prologue.

Well I did find the side door but I saw a bunch of mobs with a "king" clustered together. With my experience of the game currently, I've just been rocking the Dunban/Shulk/Reyn party because I had no need for healing and charged in.
The game rewarded me by sending me to the last landmark.
Now I just pull the adds and clear the room before engaging the boss, but I was trying for 30 mins last night and couldn't beat him. I'll give him another shot tonight after work. Although I suspect I was dying so much because my Reyn has Berserk set and not Rage.
I'm leaving the little girl there until I beat the lizard king!

I outlevelled quite a few areas for a while, but now some enemies are catching up to me in levels. After doing almost every side quest so far, I've come across a boss who is one level lower than me and will easily destroy me.
Eryth Sea is a nice visual area that takes advantage of long distance views. There is also a rare night scene (like thunderstorms) where stars fall from the sky into the sea. It's nice to see this level of creativity in the game.

I just hit Eryth Sea too, it's probably up there with one of my favorite zones so far (along with Bionis Leg of course).
In any case, I hate Rikki with a passion. That is all.

I had a great side quest conversation in the city of that region with Riki. One of the researcher's wanted to dissect Riki and was amused that Riki had a family, then wanted to experiment on his family. Riki had a tantrum over the event.

I'm no where near up to there yet but I read from Iwata asks that they deliberately made Riki an unlikable character or something like that =p
I just beat that spider on bionis's leg, it was same level as me but gave me a fair bit of trouble. _________________

Wow I actually liked Riki... in japanese. Havent heard his english.
Have to say though, considering I understand a fair bit of Japanese - Riki's subtitles do not remotely reflect what he is saying. He speaks regular Japanese, but is subtitled saying weird things and being unable to pronounce peoples names? O.o
Dundun instead of Dunban? lol. Then again it also annoys me no end whenever anyone says Carna, because the subtitles renamed her Sharla. Why!?
Other odd translation changes:
Shulk on bridge when he first gets Monado in Japanese: "...That's why..... That's why....... It's my turn!"
In english: "Dunban........ Dunban........ It's my turn now!"
A short while later in Japanese, with straight face: "...."
In english: "Hahaha!" _________________

I picked up on that too, I know a little Japanese and the subtitles were completely different in some cases. I ended up getting frustrated and settling for the english dub, and for most part the voice acting is pretty good (bar Rikki and essentially every Noppon).
I guess there has to be at least one annoying character in every JRPG

I think Riki might be the first annoying character that I don't really mind. His contributions to side quest conversations can be amusing. Poor bugger though, even the Nopon, including his wife aren't that keen on him.
Progressing further for me and I've found some new character development options open up for me. That said, I'm starting to become less enthusiastic with the main story line. It's starting to feel a lot more cliche and predictable.

Keeping in mind that there are only 16 reviews of the game as opposed to 30-60 reviews of the other games so having a few perfect rating as opposed to a 9/10 would of brought it up quite a bit.
Also in regards to downloading the sampler from the nintendo UK club. What songs are there as I accidently put my email address wrong and it won't let me gain access to download the sampler. I was just curious as all. _________________ Currently Playing : Atelier Iris 2 (PS2), Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii), Legend of Heroes : Trails of the Sky (PSP), 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (DS) and Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)

Tales of Vesperia probably will remain my favourite JRPG of this generation although I'm only 1/4 through this still (up to the sea now). _________________

Just finished the hectic events at Colony 9 at the start...what happened there reminded me SO MUCH of Xenogears (that's a good thing).
Can't wait to play more of this. _________________

For me, Xenoblade is shaping up to be the best RPG of the last few years, but I guess that could change depending on how the story and characters develop. 'The best' is always going to be a personal thing, but this is the most well-rounded JRPG I've played for quite a while and it really is quite hard to find fault with it. I have friends who dabble occassionally in JRPGs and this is something I'd recommend they play, something I haven't been able to do with a most JRPGs this generation.

Pulled this list from GameFAQs, I think the sampler CD from the local release has the same tracks. Will double-check later.
01 Main Theme
02 Colony 9
03 Time to Fight!
04 Gaur Plain
05 Memories
06 Forest of the Nopon
07 You Will Know Our Names
08 Mechonis Field
09 Engage the Enemy
10 Bionis’ Awakening - potential spoiler?
11 Once We Part Ways
12 Ending theme- Beyond the Sky _________________
