I have plenty of love for Tripwire (creaters of Killing Floor) and so thought a thread was due for the upcoming sequel to their flagship title, Red Orchestra.
There's a handy thread over on their forum with a zillion reasons why this is the sleeper hit FPS that no one will hear about (my efforts pending).
Take a peak:
http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=48698
Gameplay videos:
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gdc-11-red-orchestra/711635
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gdc-11-red-orchestra/711637
New New HD Gameplay Trailer (23/08):
TWENTY-SIX min-long BETA footage (Gamescon):
New HD Trailer (16/08):
The TL;DR on this bad boy goes a little something like this:
| Quote: | - Realistic ballistics (yes, you actually shoot bullets, no hitscans here) fully taking into account weight, distance, curvature of earth, mass of object they are piercing, etc.
- Fully modelled/animated interior of tanks! You don't just get a hud when you hop in a tank, you fire as if you were sitting right in it, even to the extent where if someone dies inside the tank, you have to crawl over their corpse to take over their firing position (fully animated).
- First-person always: even when under cover, ducking behind sandbacks, etc. The realism is never broken by a magical eye floating over your shoulder.
- Fully animated, functional, adjustable iron-sights on all weapons-- even sniper rifles! eg. you are looking through the scope, at the iron sight, and it all works. For close range, you can even look down the barrel (below the scope) as they were actually used back then.
- Suppression system (heartbeat, fuzzy vision, crapping dacks, you name it).
|
...and you can go and read about the rest.
I've preordered already as you get a 20% discount if you already own Ostfront (RO1).
It's coming out August 30 I believe, and I'm bloody pumped! _________________

ARMA 1943
Preordered the Digital Deluxe Edition myself.
Loving the way they do the scopes in this with the outside of the scope preserving your situational awareness.
The only concern now for me is that it is showing on the Steam page as Low Violence Version, which I'm guessing means we'll be getting the same game as Germany, the one with no decapitation, blood or swastikas... _________________

It's not a game without swastikas.
I'm pretty intersted. Though I'll wait for some video reviews so I know what i'm getting myself in to. _________________

Apparently this is a placeholder as they're waiting on Australia to properly rate the game. That being said if it comes out retarded and refused then we'll get the LV D:
I do want this, looks quite awesome. _________________

Yeah I picked up the Digital Deluxe version too, really just to support the devs (had many a late night playing roost) but also to get an early look-in at beta _________________

Looks like it's pushed back to September 13, which is OK news for those that have pre-ordered the DDE, as apparently it means a longer beta period for us! _________________

And here's the HD trailer they've been promising for a little while:
http://www.youtube.com/embed/Q9YBDHobzBo
I'll see if I can track down the embed code and stick it in the OP.
EDIT: Damn, for some reason the old [@flash] embed code doesn't seem to be liking me, ah well!
nvm, got it working _________________

Updated the top post with 2 new trailers from Gamescon, both of which are REALLY far and away better than any trailer we've seen so far! _________________

For anyone interest (or invested), the Digital Deluxe Beta starts tomorrow, and will last 2 weeks until release.
For everyone else, the embarge on beta footage was lifted recently, and there's been an absolute shitstorm of videos released.
This thread has the pick of them:
http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=57014
Everything I hoped for and then some. Looks brilliant. _________________

Steam username is: Windburn.
Unfortunately I'm at work atm and will have to wait till I get home later on tonight to join ya. How big's the download? 4GB?
May have to leave instructions with someone at home to get it downloaded, so it'll be ready by the time I'm there. _________________

I wouldnt worry too much about downloading it straight away Windburn. This is a Beta in the true sense of the word lots and lots of bugs, so many i wouldn't be surprised if it was delayed again. I cant be in a match for more than a couple of seconds before crashing and thats if i dont crash on the server browser. Hopefully they can get the big bugs sorted soon. _________________

I managed to get a decent session of RO2 in. Yes there are some more immediate crashing bugs (and unfortunately the fixes that worked for me didn't work for mantra), but I had a blast tonight.
If anyone else is fortunate enough to have these workarounds actually work, here's a few things to try:
0. Navigate to your (steamapps/common)/RedOrchestra2Beta/Binaries/Windows folder and run the UE3Redist.exe file -- this step alone will forestall many crashes and improve FPS a whole bunch.
1. Disable firewalls/antivirus.
2. Disable steam cloud in-game.
3. BEFORE opening server browser, alt+enter to go windowed mode.
4. Wait for the servers to load, pick one, and load in all in windowed mode.
5. Once you're in, alt+enter again to go full screen.
This did the trick for me and I was able to play pretty much without pause. _________________

Plenty of servers, had a few that were filled with full 32v32 pretty much till the wee hours of the night. My favourite one so far is the Aussie 32v32 server (pretty sure that's what it's called) as they've got it set to realism mode (cf. relaxed realism) without playernames above heads, etc.
I've added you to FL newland, looking forward to a game tonight!
PS. They're pushing out an update soon to fix some of the major bugs! _________________
