Figured this game now need's its own thread separate from Pandoras Tower and Last Story as it is now out
When I booted up this game I thought I had made a huge mistake getting it because it seemed truly AWFUL in every conceivable way..... and within 15 minutes I was addicted and loving it to death. Touche game, touche.
It really feels like a cross between Final Fantasy XII and White Knight Chronicles battle system, and Final Fantasy XII for most of the rest of the time. Which for me is huge plus. There's also I think elements of Majoras Mask in there, as townspeople have quests that often connect to each other and people come and go throughout the day on a schedule...
I am using the japanese dialog because the main characters voice is all wrong in English, but everyone else seems quite good. If I have one complaint so far it is that the subtitle timing is off for the japanese track, but it is only a minor issue... _________________

Is there gamecube controller support? Not sure if the red controller is worth the extra $40 when I could use a gamecube controller. The wiimote is out of the question.

From what I see, only Nunchuck/Classic Controller can be used. _________________

The game only supports Classic Controller, Classic Controller Pro (what im usin) and Wii Remote / Nunchuck though I can't imagine that combination works well...
Using the CCP this game controls exactly as you would expect an RPG on any other system to, with the top face button (in this case X) being to open the menu and so on, and the right stick controlling the camera.
The graphics in this game are..... not good, but serviceable. It looks bad even for a Wii game, despite what other people have said to the contrary, but this is no doubt because it is practically a free roam game. The character's faces are especially bad, and some of the background textures look like mistakes! But it's forgiveable because the game is so fun _________________

Bugger, well I guess I'll get the controller bundle. I don't own a Classic Controller Pro so it's probably a good deal.

If you don't own a normal Classic Controller either it's definitely worth it for this and other games (Virtual Console, Goldeneye, Monster Hunter Tri to name a few).
The CCP is comparable to a Dual Shock. It's button layout is identical, including having two shoulder buttons on each side with the rear ones being significantly wider than the front. It's much more comfortable because of that, and the handles, than the normal CC. I wouldn't even attempt using a Wii Remote lol, though the drawback of CCs is that the Wii Remote has to be sat somewhere right next to you... a minor annoyance. _________________

You can get them in stores for about $30 (Dick Smith) - $35 (EBgames). Zavvi have them for just under $25 (black). Seems to be a bit cheaper than paying the extra for the bundle, but the bundle is the only way to get the red one. _________________

I do hope people buy this, and not pirate, then classically bitch about the Wii/Nintendo having no good games.
Boy would that be stupid. _________________

There'll be a lot of tossers in the States that will pirate it (partially thanks to the recent joystiq article that gave clear instructions on not only how to play import Wii games, but also pirated ones) to 'prove a point' to Nintendo, but fingers crossed that people in the PAL territories are buying this and the sales will be good. I'd hate to see plans to localise Last Story and Pandora's Tower cancelled due to poor sales of Xenoblade, especially after all the great reviews it's been getting. _________________

Exactly. Plus it's just really fucking annoying to hear the same goddamn whiny bullshit spew from the mouths of bitter Nintendo gamers in regards to the Wii and/or lack of games. The process usually goes;
"Man the Wii sucks so does Nintendo there are no good games nothing worth buying overpriced crap no games hur derp"
*awesome game comes out*
*pirates game / doesn't buy it*
"Man the Wii sucks so does Nintendo there are no good games nothing worth buying overpriced crap no games hur durp"
When good games come out, that you want to play, its a good idea to buy them. Every sale counts. If Nintendo see no demand for these kinds of games, they will stop investing in them. Its really that simple.
Plus, on a broader note, strong international sales for Xenoblade will do well for convincing Nintendo that Monolith is a valid investment outside of Japan. Worldwide recognition gives greater sway to investing more money into Monolith titles, which equates to higher budget production values. Considering Monolith are now working on the Wii U, it wouldn't hurt for Nintendo to feel their game isn't only relevant to one small region, but instead the world.
That being said I expect Xenoblade to do pretty okay. The Last Story too should do alright. Pandora's Tower will bomb. _________________

Truths. It took a long time for them to show up, but I now seem them in stores for these prices. As for mine, I got it in the Monster Hunter Tri bundle, which is why I did not get the bundle this time. The controller is DEFINITELY worth the money. Easily the best accessory on Wii
As for Xenoblade, last night I was running through a field minding my own business and was suddenly beset on by a gigantic behemoth creature 75 levels my senior. I ran. I ran for my life!!
The see-the-future aspect to gameplay is a bit hit and miss. It's a novel idea, but basically breaks down to only three options. If you don't know what I'm talking about, in battle against strong foes and bosses, sometimes you will see your party or one character get wiped out by a strong attack, and then you will get a countdown timer showing you how long you have until that happens for real. You have about 8 seconds to avoid the attack in some way.... unfortunately this is only ever either: using shield, dash or transferring your aggro...
Still, it makes battles more hectic, because you think OH NO IM GONNA DIE IN EIGHT SECONDS lol.
Luckily this game has no punishment for death whatsoever. If you die you warp to the last landmark you went to. That's all there is. Not even a game over screen. _________________

I'm looking forward to seeing what Monolith come up with next. I've always found their games to be enjoyable and it's nice to see them getting widespread positive recognition for a game rather than 'it's good... but'.
I reckon Last Story will probably do better than Xenoblade in terms of sales, but it sounds like a pretty flawed game from what I've read and I'm not expecting it to receive the positive response that Xenoblade has received. Pandora's Story... yeah, probably sell particularly well. I'm keen for it, but it will be the least appealing for a lot of people. _________________

I just ordered the bundle with the controller. The amount of hype and positive reviews this game is getting is surprising. I can't wait to get into it.

Xenoblade has debuted as seventh place for this week's sales in the UK, all formats included. A pretty damn respectable start. _________________

Holy cow, especially at the top screen. This game is rather blurry on my actual Wii... If it looked like THAT, fwoah.
I'm buying a new Bravia tonight, will let you know if it looks better (though itll never look as good as those pics). Yeesh. _________________
