PC importers - Buyer Beware!
Boxed released imports from U.K and Russia are region locked through steam's activation process. Basically any copy you import from the U.K or Russia that is a boxed copy must be activated IN the UK/Russia (or through a proxy/VPN if you are a clever cookie). Only physical copies of the game seem to be effected at this time.
If you can't run steam through a proxy/VPN to activate it, you might have cancel any PC UK imports... Dick move Squeenix...

Yep - Ozgamers are refunding all PC orders. (got notification email this morning) - I know I won't be buying it now till its budget re-release in 12-18 months no matter how it reviews. I refuse to be forced to pay AU RRP inflated prices. _________________

Anyone know if that region locking mess affects the 360 version of the game? (The dividing of UK territories and Aus, for example). _________________

I pre-ordered the XBox 360 version from UK. This shouldn't affect me I hope.

All i can see regarding the console versions, specifically the 360 version is this (it says US 360 so it is most likely bound to normal region locking anyway)
Q: Is this game doing one of the region locks? If I buy the U.K. version will I be able to play it on my USA xbox360?
A: Whether to lock the game or not is still up to publisher. For the 360 and Wii, region locks on these platforms have been used more frequently. PLEASE make the relevant enquiries to avoid disappointment.
I think you should be fine since every other 360 game i bought from the U.K is fine (with us being in the PAL territory and all) and this just seems to be utilizing Steamworks as a tool to screw PC gamers over.

Green Man Gaming is still a pretty viable option, since it's cheap, and since it's a digital version, region free. (at least according to their support forum)
also, a couple of 20% off coupon vouchers to make it even better:
20PEC-FACEB-SAVER
or
20SUM-MERSA-VINGS
GMG's before-voucher-prices are:
Digital Augmented Edition: $49.99 (bonus code for the original Deus Ex if you preorder.)
Bogstock Digital Edition: $42.99
(ps: i'm not affiliated, nor are these any sort of "click for credit" links.) _________________

I think they use Steam keys, actually. They get them directly from the publisher, though. Who knows what will happen. _________________

Yeah apparently Squeenix did a back flip:
We’re aware of some discussion regarding the planned region-locking of boxed PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and after careful review we have decided not to implement this in the UK/Europe/US/AUS. Please note, this plan only related to PC boxed games, and not digital or console editions.

Thanks for the heads up, Obs. Preordered the Digital Augmented Edition.
For those interested, the GOTY deus ex preorder bonus is not via steam. No biggie though since I already have 3 copies of the original floating around somewhere.
Else, you can trade it in for the princely sum of $2.11
COME ON 23rd AUGUST! _________________

Pre-load is available on Steam now. And to Steam traditions, they've included quite afew TF2 items if you pre-purchase. Weapons are craftable, plans are already in-game.
I'm going to have to wait till off-peak to start. _________________ Steam: Emilbus

One of you guys here or from the Hyper forums had a link in their signature way back, with remastered Deus Ex OST track(s).
If you are reading this, I was wondering if you remastered the complete OST or just a few tracks?

Does anyone know how to purchase deus ex from the US steam store? I know you can get it for about the same price on greenman gaming site but I am really interested in the tf2 items and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction and just pay $40 USD instead of the inflated price of $62 AUD on the aus steam site for the regular edition. _________________

Ok well go to http://anonymitynetwork.com/
Download the Anonymity network tool, select free trial, choose the Illinois USA VPN, once connected, verify your IP has changed by visiting http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and make sure you are now detected as using a US IP address.
Now open steam, purchase the game, and in the billing screen, make sure your billing address is a US Postal address.
Eg. 490 Jericho Tpke. Mineola, New York 11051 (Thanks nytools.com!)
Now click buy, and if you're lucky you'll be able to buy it.
It won't work with all credit/debit cards however, I lucked out, so I just use g2play for foreign keys, but I do this when we have to wait longer than the US for games to be released in our region.
Bonus tip:
You can do this also via browser through proxy by adding ?cc=us to the end of the http://store.steampowered.com url, and purchasing that way.
Bonus tip 2:
This VPN trick works for Origin too, so you don't need to pay huge prices. _________________

Thanks for the information there A13x I managed to get everything working with the vpn and re-routing my ip address but steam didn't accept my credit card or debit card as the "supplied address" didn't match my card details. Oh Well, atleast I tried and learnt something new along the way.
@Puddingfork: Why pay the extra $22 for the hats if it maybe possible to get it cheaper by other means and I do like snagging a bargain or two where possible.
Besides I'm not too phased on the hats, I only wanted to know if it was possible to get it cheaper through steam as I've always heard people managing to get things cheaper through vpn on steam and I do like the TF2 bonuses, so it was worth a shot. _________________

Opened up steam after work and the little steam notice window popped up with a deus ex picture saying thanks for preordering, preload now and get your 8 bonus items for tf2!
Eagerly opened tf2 and as I thought, no items. I got troll'd good. _________________
