| PS Blog wrote: | PS3 System Software Update (v3.70)
Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).
To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.
- A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
- Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.
A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.
- You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
- A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
- Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB
Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:
- 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
- DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
- 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon. |

So it's useless for someone without PS+ or a 3D TV? _________________

Hey at least they've added something more than 'security updates' or 'improved performance to software'.
I actually like the idea of saves being synched to the 'cloud' automatically. I've lost too many save game files already. I may need to investigate how this automatic download thing works, I'd forgotten about it completely. _________________

It's great that they're adding the ability to use lossless audio on 3D movies. I don't currently use 3D of course but it was one of the major criticism's of the PS3's 3D functionality. Now they just need to add Dolby TruHD as well... _________________

A few nifty features that add nothing that anyone is actually interested in.
Christ, why can't they make updates like this non-compulsory? _________________

There are so many features that I would have thought were basic that are still not implemented. Does Sony even listen to it's customers? _________________

At least it's not as bad as Microsoft. They don't even have a simple web browser implemented. As long as Sony doesn't charge for P2P gaming like Microsoft does then I'm happy.

Dammit, another update, I swear I only just updated a couple days ago. And this one has a bunch of features I won't/ can't use. Hooray.

I never have to update my PS3, the only time I do is on the off chance that I turn it on.
MPO support voa XMB is probably the standout feature here, I'll use that once I get my new cheap camera. _________________

Gah, nothing about voice chat . Oh well, at least there's a skype to skype (good old smartphone with speak features but watch out for power consumption!)

Like multiplayer? at the very rare time when I do play multiplayer on any platform, I can happily say I will be willing to pay if I get the quality of server I see on the PC, 360 or to a lesser extent, the Wii. I can never had a smooth match on the PS3 and is more than sad to not see PS+ can do anything to make the game server any better, or even a pay-for-a-day system and get a better experience on multiplayer for a day. Great example of games include LBP and RDR which is just unbearable to play. If it isn't me dropping/froze for a second out it's my partner that is doing it. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

Island_Wolf, I'm not sure that's PSN causing the trouble. If you use wifi you might be having connection issues with your PS3. Mine's smooth as anything playing LBP or most anything online (not tried RDR yet). _________________

It is wired. LBP was okay at certain times of the day but I stop playing after a kid was abusing me over the mic, a hit or miss on connection. RDR I never could get a smooth gameplay in an open multiplayer map. Never an issue when playing with my friends though, just the more open multiplayer. I got the Australian copy but it could be the servers I am connected to are not local because I notice I have awful pings on RDR. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

Ah right. Yeah if you're playing against US, UK or EU players you're going to have problems. I'm not sure it would be much better on any other platform though, PC included. _________________

True, I guess PC has better chance of a local server for most games or run your own local server. Not sure how these PSN server works. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

It's usually peer to peer, where a player hosts the game and everyone connects to them. Although it does vary between games. _________________

Ah, now I get when Pagan say P2P. Misread it as game server hosted by Sony. My bad.
Time for bed before I start to misread posts again _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

It's under TV -> My Channels -> ABC
Dunno why they felt they needed to put 3 things into a folder. I guess it might be more in other regions _________________

I don't seem to have 'TV' anywhere in my XMB
*EDIT* had a dig around online and it looks like this disappears sometimes after people do a system update for some reason.
*EDIT2* ...and it's back in my XMB now. Logged onto Home and ran around the main square or whatever. When I quit, 'TV/Video Services' appeared. _________________

The column left of "Game" and right of "Video". It's actually called "TV/Video Services". MUBI is also in there. Pic _________________

As someone with a PS+ subscription and a 3D TV, I think it's great that Somy are supporting the people who support them. These new features are really good, auto-synching in particular is a fantastic idea. _________________
