Hmm I knew it was coming, but I don't know how I feel about it. I hope this doesn't mean that the game's mechanics are pushed too far towards it becoming a third-person shooter; I really started to miss ME1's RPG elements the more times I played ME2, as excellent as the game was. _________________ PSWii60

Some-things should be left as a single player experience.
Unless this can be implemented in a unique uber cool RPG way like the online component of Demons Souls I fear we will end up with a try hard Gears wannabe and all that will result is a lessor RPG experience than ME3 should be.
Still really looking forward to ME3 _________________

Not a multi-player person so I am hoping the single-player won't get hindered because of implementing multi-player. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

How disappointing hope it doesn't affect the single player though. _________________

I hope it's more a co-op experience, that would make more sense. Competitive multiplayer would be a throw away extra for mine, only Assassin's Creed has made it work effectively, case in point that was a stand alone release instead of a last minute add-on.

There just commenting on rumours. I know they are definitely experimenting with stuff (like co-op) but I'm not sure if it will make it in the game. Here' hoping not.

yeah I thought they fucked up by adding multi player to assassins creed as well but then brotherhood turned out to be the best game yet.
So i'm gonna wait till I jump on the "RUINED FORVER!" bus. _________________

You know it's just a plot to deflect the second hand market even more. I bet they have an online pass and online DLC pass. _________________ Shin J Leon.

My understanding of everything about ME3 is that it's going to use the ME2 engine, but it's going to play out more like ME1.
To me it says less work on engines and more work on story and gameplay.
It was hinted that ME3 was supposed to be released later this year, but then it got pushed back to Q1 of 2012, so to me it sounds like they've got something up their sleeves, which is exciting because it means they can focus on making sure the game is perfect.
But then when multi-player rumours start spreading, to me it all makes sense, the push back was to give time to develop a multi-player gameplay element.
To me, this makes sense, from a gamers point of view and a publishers point of view. ME3 is the third and final chapter in a highly successful series of games, Mass Effect games as a whole are CONSTANTLY being played and re-played by the gamers, because of the story, because of the characters, and also the way the game is played and results in multiple endings, which THEN carries out and affects the way the next game is played, making MORE alternate endings... So how it all ties together is anyone's guess.
But what next? If there's no more Mass Effect games in the future, how can the publishers be sure that people are going to continue playing the games? By adding an element to the game that makes the game play develop itself, by adding the unknown and user experience: multi-player.
Now, I have no idea how multi-player is going to be implemented, but I am certain that it's purpose is to keep the series alive and the gamers wanting more. DLC is only a short gap measure, but multi-player makes every gaming experience unique and unpredictable.
This is a wise choice to make, in my opinion, I applaud it, but we'll have to wait to see how it pans out in the bigger picture _________________

I still maintain that if Bioshock can pull it off successfully, then so can Mass Effect. I was sure that Bioshock's would be a complete disaster, but it turned out to be great! I have hope for this! _________________

I just want to note that there will be more Mass Effect games in the future. Shepard's story arc will end with Mass Effect 3, but both BioWare and EA have confirmed intentions of pushing the franchise beyond the trilogy. _________________

So this will get rid of pausing completely I guess. I like pausing it, telling my team members to do stuff then working my abilities in with theirs. Now it will either be real time or completely AI I guess.

There's been serveral reports and rumours going back months about BioWare working on a Mass Effect multiplayer build, with reports as recent as the last couple of weeks (and I'm not talking about this specific XB360W report).
You're right, they probably made it up, but Mass Effect 3 multiplayer is happening and the sooner people get used to the idea the quicker they'll get over it. _________________

But we don't know that yet. We honestly don't. I'm not really caring that much, except that I'll be sad that when ME gets multiplayer, I'll be playing on Xbox and Duckay will be playing it on PC, so we won't be able to play together. As long as I can still do pause the gameplay style attack in single player, I'm fine with it. But it's a long way from confirmed. The official word from Bioware right now is still denial. For the moment, that should be considered the greatest likelihood.

They've been working on MP for a while now. If they can make it work, it'll be in there - count on it. _________________

BioWare hasn't denied the multiplayer. There is an old report that BioWare apparently flat out a denied a multiplayer, but it was miss quote from (I think it was) Eurogamer. We've had numerous reports that a multiplayer is on the way, and even a job posting for BioWare asking for multiplayer programming experience for the Mass Effect franchise.
The writing is on the wall and it says there will be a Mass Effect 3 multiplayer (and REDRUM). _________________
