Today I built my first P.C. After much sweat and a few bits of blood (why are some of the metal bits so sharp?) I have finished. Bit sad that the GPU doesn't come till next week but I'm pretty proud that I did it.

Congrats on building your first computer . Curious as to the computer case you used. I had multiple cuts from a generic computer case when helping my friend to build hers but none on the more expensive brand named cases. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

Something that isn't given as much heft in as it should in this wiki section is that a large and vocal section of the gaming community mirror Charlie Barratt's opinions of the Flood - that part of the game in particular.
It's more or less utterly reviled amongst both those who love and loathe the game(s). _________________

A) Logging into netbank to find that I've obviously had my application for Youth Allowance approved since I'd suddenly gained over $1000 in payments. I've been struggling a bit in the past few weeks since my hours at work have been dropping and the extra money means I'll be able to get by that bit easier.
B) Finding out the in-built dvd player in my tv is region-free. Means I can watch my Alien boxset and buy dvd from overseas without having to buy a new dvd player. _________________

Library was regarded by many as being the worst level in Halo: CE (and the exact point at which Bungie began to rush the game so that it would be out on time). I honestly didn't mind it, though. It was that huge one at the start that I simply couldn't stand. _________________

The design train of thought went something like this for The Library:
- Make a room
- Say, that's a pretty sweet room
- Make a duplicate of it and put it directly after that room
- Now do this until you have two hours of gameplay
The game already had a fair degree of copypasta before that, but The Library became an example of how not to make a FPS level. It's an exercise in pure masochism to willingly sit through that level. _________________

Oh The Library.
If it wasn't for the sturdiness of the Xbox controller, there'd be many broken ones thanks to me. What a pain in the ass and annoying level :/
I don't mind the flood, but come on _________________

I don't even remember that level, though I do have overwhelming memories of an insanely repetitive level that put me off the game completely, which I guess must have been earlier in the game. Good god what a steaming pile of mediocrity.

I thought that video was a leak demonstrating a major framerate issue with Anniversary (when playing through the Library with classic graphics).
Meh, the Library wasn't so bad. I guess they figured the player would be too overwhelmed by the flood to notice the repetitive design anyway (the golden triangle, bro!). I always thought the simple, repetitive textures were the worst part of Halo.

Bah, I didn't notice the repetitive design to much as I was playing co-op.

I played Halo and I stopped playing on that very level, it was a horrible level and I hated the flood. I also played a some of Halo 2, probably about half way through before just finding myself too bored to bother carrying on, I thought it was worse than Halo in fact and I thought both games were below-average. I will never understand why everyone loves the series so much.

As soon as the churn process is done, we are going to have unlimited ADSL 2+ (from 50 gigs a month at 8 mb/s), for $50 a month in Zone 2 (or the zone where internet is expensive :\)! Excited for it, being able to download anything whenever I want is going to be amazing

I'm assuming you played the games on PC? Not many people loved the series on PC.
The games were designed for Xbox, a console that had a 733MHz CPU, and a DX8 GPU using a shared memory pool of 64MB.
So with that in mind, they were pretty impressive at the time, considering the competition and how they looked. Halo introduced a solid new IP for console gamers, new ideas such as the regenerating shield and limiting the player to two weapons, had some of the most advanced enemy A.I. that had ever been seen on console, was riddled with epic moments, and the whole thing could be played in co-op. The multiplayer for a console game was excellent (closest rival at the time would have been Timesplitters) and overall production values delivered a genuine full package game... the first Halo was anything but average.
Unless you played it on PC.

played em on x-box. I'm with Pixie. They're kind of crap.

I played Halo on the XBox and hated it. Years later I decided to try and jump on the bandwagon again with Halo 3, only to discover that it was the most utterly average video game I've ever played. _________________ Twitter | XBL: Tamaaya | PSN: stormo | GameCentre/Steam: StorminNorman

Kind of crap, and below average compared to what pre-Halo Xbox FPS? What was the 'average', or 'above average' FPS standard on Xbox that Halo failed to meet?
Fair enough if some people just didn't click with the game, like it wasn't their cup of tea or whatever, but the feature-set and graphics were, at the time, pretty much unrivaled on console. It's not difficult to understand why so many people fell in love with the series.

Lucky people who can play and finish Halo . I will never be able to experience it being the worse game I ever play in my lifetime to be giving me extreme motion sickness and extreme headaches in the shortest amount of time (Mirror's Edge and Batman:AA requires 2 hours for a light motion sickness/headaches).
Speaking of headaches, I had quite an extreme headache just minutes ago. Luckily I had Panadol in my work drawer and it is vanishing. How can I cope with life without Paracetamol?
Edit - forgot to mention it only takes me 30 minutes of Halo 3 for extreme nausea and headaches _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"
