This is a copy and paste from a thread I did on another forum where nobody bothered to participate.
It's basically just an excuse to fuck around a bit and post some pretty screenshots.
You might want to do this if you've just built a new sytem, or upgraded your GPU,
or even if you're just bored or whatever.
Okay, so I was bored and was wondering just how much better than the laptop is this desktop PC I built for Dad.
This is something that anyone who has a PC/laptop capable of running Crysis, the game Crysis
(I have my copy patched up to v1.2), and this benchmark tool from guru3d.com, can do.
So if you have that stuff and want to add your own benchmark screens, feel free to post them here.
For a proper e-penis comparison, here's the format to use in the benchmark options:
Set the universal quality settings to low
Use 800x600 resolution
No AntiAliasing
Use the Assault_Harbour timedemo
Leave the time at the default 5am
Don't run Windowed
Don't Enable Vsync
Run DX9 in 32bit
to get the exact same frames as below, use "-80" (minus 80) for the Screenshot Each Frame setting.
(the frames are easy to find, they're the 2 that have big explosions in them)
Post the same frames again, but at a higher setting of your choosing. Also post other random frames from the benchmark if you like.
Anyway, so I ran it on the laptop and the desktop PC, here are the basic specs from dxdiag for each machine:
Laptop:
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
IntelĀ® Core(tm)2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2048MB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400
Display Driver Version: 8.741.0.0
Display Memory: 883 MB
Dedicated Memory: 116 MB
Native Mode: 1280 x 800(p) (60.004Hz)
Desktop:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
IntelĀ® Core(tm) i7 CPU 960 @ 3.20GHz (8 CPUs)
Memory: 6144MB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
Display Driver Version: 8.850.0.0
Display Memory: 751 MB
Dedicated Memory: 2032 MB
Native Mode: 1920 x 1080(p) (60.000Hz)
Here are the screens from the Low Settings benchmark:
frame #1760 on Laptop:
frame #1760 on Desktop PC:
frame #2880 on Laptop:
frame#2880 on Desktop PC:
Next, I ran it with Universal Medium Settings on the laptop (still no AA or Vsync) @1280x720
Finally, on the desktop PC with Universal Very High settings, 4xAA, Vsync enabled @1920x1080
Some random Very High Quality screens from the Desktop PC:

Since I just upgraded i've been playing Crysis through again. First thing I noticed is its not as pretty as I expected it to be (I guess it is a few years old now though), but still looks very good. But I'm also shocked by how badly it plays still on highest settings, I only get like 20-30 fps in highest settings.
Crysis 2 I can play with everything on (without DX11 though) with the high resolution texture pack, and it looks really great and I average like 40fps.
So I no longer view Crysis as something to aspire to :/

Ok repeating your own frames
Low 800x600 No AA DX9 32bit
Medium 1280x720 No AA DX9 32bit
Very High 1920x1080 4X AA DX10 64bit
And then a Higher end set...
Very High 2560x1600 8X AA DX10 64bit

Can I run the benchmark on Crysis Warhead? Would have to go and install the original Crysis otherwise and I'm lazy .

Actually yeah, benchmark whatever you like. It might be easier if we just make this a general benchmark thread.
Don't forget to post your specs too so that the thread can be semi-useful.
@Al3x: Nice! At medium settings, your PC is equivalent to 10x Furianshi laptops duct taped together.

Couldn't get it to work. It started Crysis then just closed it. Said it was complete but there was no results.
Do you guys wanna benchmark Unigine Heaven?

The benchmark tool I posted won't work with Warhead, you'll need one specifically for the expansion, like this.

Okay I installed Crysis and ran the benchmark. My results were a bit strange. If I ran the benchmark for 2 straight loops, the FPS would increase considerably during the second loop. I took the first loop results anyway.
My specs:
AMD 965 @ 4GHz
AMD 6950 2GB
Low 800x600 no AA DX9 32bit
Medium 1280x720 no AA DX9 32bit
Very High 1920x1080 4x AA DX10 64bit

Yeah, all the screenshot taking slows that first run down.

Here's some more screenshots I took. I think it looks better without motion blur to be honest.
