Tempting, but Steam refuses to start downloading for me in Windows, whenever I click install the bar fills up and then stops, and if I try to cancel it, it freezes. Any ideas?

If you guys have trouble booting/running this buggy mess on modern systems, try this;
| Quote: | 1. Download and install Bloodlines on Steam. Be sure to try and run it once, although it won't launch on many Windows 7 64-bit systems unpatched due to an error.
2. Download and install the latest unofficial patch, #7.6b:
http://www.patches-scrolls.de/vampire_bloodlines.php
This is the only patch you will need. Don't go with the 'Plus' option on your first playthrough, it adds unofficial content.
3. After that, search for 'Extra' in your Bloodlines directory and click 'Res Patch' to update it to modern resolutions. Once the patch is in effect, you'll find the res options in the game's options menu.
4. Get naked.
5. Play the fucking game.
OPTIONAL: Use RadeonPro or Nvidia Inspector to force some AA. It's by no means essential, but it looks much better (no more jaggies) when you're forcing 8XAA and any modern PC should be capable of it without any performance loss. Both are free and easy to use. |

Already had it but I have to disagree about it being one of the best role playing games ever
It is one of the few role playing games that are actually tolerable and half playable without me passing out from boredom though, so I guess that kinda does make it one of the best ever doesn't it
I liked the game quite a bit but its overrated as a "cult classic" game. Its totally worth $5 though Better RPGs include The Witcher and even Mass Effect 2. Vampire Bloodlines was often unintuitive and awkward and its very buggy unless you update with the big unofficial patch.

Moved from my other post.
As this is on Steam special this weekend I thought I would gift it to the first two members of the PALGN community to post their Steam ID's, who have more than 100 forum posts and an overall positive rating.
This is one of my favourite games of all time, so the more people I can get to play it the better. Think Deus Ex, with vampires.
If you don't think you would enjoy it then don't post your ID, let someone else enjoy it and I am sure good things will come to you later.
If you do get it, make sure you load up the latest community patch before playing. It fixes a bunch of bugs (the game has tons) and restores some deleted contet/rebalances things to make the game the awesome experience it was meant to be.
Any other fans who want to follow my lead and gift to the uninitated would be most welcome, maybe we can get a chain going!
R.I.P Troika - If only my money could go to you.

Nice gesture there Nic_231, I'd love to jump on your offer if it's still going? mrcool37 is my Steam ID. Never heard of this game, I'm fairly oblivious to PC releases over the years when I was a console-only gamer. But I love my PC RPG's so I wouldn't mind giving this a go.

The latest community patches clean up the game good and proper, but of course there's still bugs. Its a Troika game! _________________

This game looks really interesting but I just have no clue what the gameplay is like and no clue in general, does anyone have any points to basically sell the game ? _________________

Its a first/third person role playing game set in a dark, supernatural universe with a modern world backdrop. There's a heavy emphasis on story and characters, with mutliple plot arcs and twists. Characters are among the best written characters I've ever had the joy of talking to in a videogame, as the writing flows naturally.
You, the player, can chose from a variety of vampire 'clans', each with their own powers and specialisations, and play the game how you like. Many quests can be completed simply by talking, seducing and intimidating (if you have the skills), hacking and picking locks, sneaking, or just guns blazing. Combat is frankly a little bit shit, but its tolerable if you stick to a certain style with a dash of another. There's melee, firearms, magic (blood powers), and stealth kills.
There's also a few points in the game that are clearly unfinished, including an awful grind through the sewers, and a couple of unfriendly boss fights. Troika ran out of time and Activision and Valve screwed them, but the most recent fan patches not only fix most of the bugs but also restore a lot of missing content.
Bloodlines excels in being one of the most ambitious RPGs ever made, simply for how open the quests are. Its not an RPG that tries to hook you with tons and tons of loot, or grinding for experience points, or other such tropes of the genre. It hooks you with a rich story, awesome characters, and wonderful quests.
Also its five freakin' dollars. _________________

I know that I have a boxed copy (bought at launch, thank you (epeen cred)) in one of my still-packed-from-last-move boxes... but am rather tempted to buy it again on Steam given the price. Such a good game - the hotel is still one of the creepiest video gaming memories for me. _________________
