So, according to this article, guitar hero flopped because DJ hero got too much attention from the devs, so Activision are therefore rebooting Guitar Hero.
Groan. Should have seen this coming. Hopefully they won't fuck it up this time.
I hope the link works, I'm trying to post this from my iPod, and I keep getting redirected to the mobile site.

DJ Hero was better than Guitar Hero had been since the second game.

Seems like a terrible idea. Is it not too soon to try and reboot a franchise that only died in the arse 6 months ago?
Guitar Hero always played like a poor man's Rock Band*. If they're going to try it again, it'll at least be interesting what gimmicks they'll come up with to try and entice people back to the genre.

Link didn't work for me, so if there's anyone with the same probs try this: http://au.games.ign.com/articles/118/1182913p1.html
Anyway, I think GH's time is done. RB is far superior and even that isn't so popular anymore. I'm looking forward to Rocksmith, which I had the chance to try in America. I think if they're going to keep doing these guitar games it's definitely heading towards the real guitar things. _________________

How can they reboot a game like Guitar Hero? How does that actually work?

While that article says it will close down its 'music-game business division' it never said Activision was killing off the franchise, just canceled the 2011 game. With the rest of the current generation of consoles coming out in the following years this seems like the perfect time for a new game. Just like first few Guitar Hero games dominated the early part of last generation.

Never before has Air Guitar and been so much fun! Air Bass, Air Drums, Air Keyboard and Air Mic sold separately.
Seriously they may do this. It conveniently removes the need to sell huge expensive plastic instruments. _________________

And that's exactly why they won't do it! _________________

While I'm sure they're quite lucrative, the logistics and storage for them is huge. Stores don't like having them in stock, so they get discounted like crazy after the first month or so. I think the trouble with 'selling fake instruments' business is part of why Activision canned Guitar Hero. _________________

Don't think Kinect camera is accurate or sensitive enough to be used for guitar finger work. Drumming maybe.
Not to mention the slight Kinect lag will not work in a game that relies on precision timing. _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82

Assuming of course that it's not casual-ified so much that it still requires both precision and timing.
I was thinking more flailing limbs while music plays. _________________
