Thanks for the concern, I'm fine now icon_biggrin.gif . Stomach lining issues so my stomach reacts to even a small amount of acidic foods, been like this for weeks but I brushed it off as indigestion. Luckily I was given a prescription which seems to work.

Does anyone have an opinion about the Samsung Galaxy phone? And by that I mean the older one, not Galaxy II.

They are really cheap on an optus plan at the moment, wondering if I should get my first ever smart phone icon_confused.gif

^ A good way to gauge how good non-iPhones are these days is to compare them to iPhones.

e.g. http://www.knowyourmobile.com/comparisons/517419/samsung_galaxy_s_vs_iphone_4.html

According to that, you can't really go wrong.

Moved from the "PSN down?" topic as no one answered it.

Hey guys, I've just had a problem with Justice Force on the PSP and just wondering if anyone has this problem.

I've downloaded it off the US PSN store, and loaded it onto my PAL psp. For some reason, the game just seems to freezes on the screen where it has the logo of the game, and doesn't seem to respond to any button (apart from the home button). Has anyone else had this problem.

Just get a decent brand (Sony, LG, Samsung, Toshiba, Panasonic, etc). Not the el cheapo ones you've never heard of. You should have a decent amount of choice in LCDs for sub-$800, or maybe even a smallish plasma.

Your ultimately looking a at a TV's black levels and motion blur.

Motion blur is a near thing of the past with the better quality TV's, though black levels are still patchy.

And listen to the sound of the TV's. A lot of TV's, especially Samsung put the speakers in the back so you can't see them. That also means you can't hear them so they absolute crap.

Yeah, as Grim said, you can get a decent LCD without all the bells and whistles pretty cheap. My 22 inch LG was ~$400 about 9-10 months ago. Although it has only 1 HDMI port and no USB ports, that probably won't make much difference to your mum.

Just be sure to avoid cheap brands like Soniq, I've had experiences with a couple of their appliances and they're nothing but trouble.

You can get 40" AWA and Sanyo TVs for that kinda price. They aren't the best around, but they're on the high end of the cheapies. I have family members with both and they're all happy with them.

Myself I would only ever buy high-end TV brands but they cost a lot more and the average consumer, especially one who was fine with a CRT, simply will not notice the difference (my mother can't see the difference between VHS and Bluray icon_neutral.gif)

Kogans. They change supplier every month, and there is no way to watch them before buying. Some are great, some are crap.

I'd also recommend a good 32" or 37" over a crap or 50".
The size only accentuates the shoddy picture quality in those ones.

As for brand recommendations, my grandparents got some ~37" Sammy recently for $500 which they are very happy with (and I saw too. It's actually pretty nice both in terms of picture and sound).

But you'd be best off just going go down to JB with your mum and having a look for yourself (make sure you watch some SD content on it, too). And make sure to ask if they can do you a better price than what's on the ticket! It's quite often a yes.

JB Hi-Fi have a 47" Soniq Full HD LCD for $495 at the moment. It was $800. Pretty decent specs for that kind of price too.

Edit: Apparently it's a refurb model or something... probably wouldn't have any stock anyway. You can get a decent 32" for around $500.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Ended up grabbing a Samsung 32inch Series 4, which is the last of the Samsungs which only run a max of 720p, but that's fine for her. Went to a few different places and was tempted to grab one of the cheaper brands - jb are stocking a no name 32inch LCD for $299 which was pretty tempting - but settled for better at the good guys and managed to get the samsung which was already on sale at $448 to $410.

Definitely glad I came along because we had the salesman telling her heaps of bull shit like how she needed extra HDMI ports and that the stock speakers wouldn't cut it so she should get a sound system as well as a newer model, no doubt she would have spent the extra cash if I hadn't shot him down.

Cian recommended http://www.handtec.co.uk/ to me, which is where i imported my Galaxy S2 from - so importing is definitely an option.
just remember we don't attract the VAT tax on orders, so look at that price, rather than the large numbers.

one thing i will say about them though, is they aren't very communicative (ironic for a telecommunication device retailer?).
and it might be related, but their "My Account" section was down for the entire duration of my transaction - but once they shipped, they sent the right courier tracking number, and it was fine from then - i guess it really only bothered me for the 36 hours or so between me paying, and them shipping (i ordered on a Saturday night, so the delay there was due to the Sunday inbetween.)

but obviously i don't know what phone you're after, so this site mightn't be great for you.

Hey, I was trying to watch Soul Eater on blu ray, however a message came up saying that this blu ray can only be played on region A. On the back of the case, it say region A and B (this is on the PS3 region B) so is there a way for the disc to be read differently or to change the settings?

Yeah, I went through that dilemma while trying to upload a pic of that Megamalgamation poster. I settled on Imgur, but that was after scaling the image down several times... so it was only about 1200*1400 or so by the end.

Flickr used to take anything you'd throw at it, but now you need a paid account I believe.

Photobucket it rubbish. I mean, I love it for small, forum sized images and such, but it will auto downsize images to a max of like 1024 or something equally restrictive.

Yeah Flickr will take anything you throw at it, but you need a paid account to get it back out at the original resolution. Also you can't pick and choose which of your images are available at full res, it's all or none.

I don't know what your image is Benza, but maybe www.DeviantArt.com if it's something original?

Google's Picasa can also store up to 1GB of images for free. There are a couple of image restrictions though: Maximum photo size: Each image can be no larger than 20 megabytes and are restricted to 50 megapixels or less (that's a ~7000 pixels square)
