Well, I trawled the forums but couldn't seem to find a thread about Mass Effect 3 on here.
Basically, beyond the whole discussion of the game and all that, I've made this thread so I can pass on the news that the Mass Effect 3 N7 Edition is now available for preorder at JB Hi-Fi and EB Games. It's retailing for $129.95 on 360 and PS3 and $109.95 on PC.

Better graphics, better controls, and $20 cheaper.
EDIT: Also James Vega looks like a fucking twat. Fucking hell BioWare. "WAIT THIS GAMING IS MISSING SOMETHING OH I KNOW IT NEEDS MORE BRO. OF THE DUDE VARIETY". _________________

I'm actually waiting for the first two games to go hit the daily sales pages on Steam. I'm planning on carrying through characters on those, hitting up the 360 version on launch to finish off my current Sheppard and then get the PC version later on and finish a trilogy playthrough for PC.
The look of those tactical controls are just too much for me to ignore the PC versions, but I also want to complete my Sheppard's journey. _________________

Well, I just read a little bit of interesting news. I'll spoiler mark it for people who are on media blackouts:
| Spoilers wrote: | | Just read that Kai Leng from Mass Effect: Retribution will be in the game as well. No idea what his capacity in the story will be, but he was one of my favourite characters from the books, so I can't wait to see what he does. |
Also, that Vega model looks utterly retarded. Hope it doesn't end up being the final.
It's also confirmed that Clint Mansell will be doing the whole score for Mass Effect 3 and that Jack Wall and Sam Hulick will not be involved. _________________

I highly recommend following the twitter feeds of the developers. So far, they have provided a heap of information and given details about improvements to the game.
Also, BioWare are saying that the idea of a squad mate (ie recruitable NPC) will be very different in ME3. _________________

Got pretty far in ME2, probably at home stretch now to finishing but I think I burnt myself out from playing nothing BUT me2 over a two week period. Need to try and finish it so I can carry over Shepard _________________

All I did when Mass Effect 2 came out was play Mass Effect 2. Nothing else existed except what sustenance and sleep were required for me to live. I played from beginning to end, with 12+ hour sittings. Took me 3 days. _________________

Pretty much what I just did, beat ME2 for the first time on PS3 and got a perfect paragon Shepard. Can't wait for me3 but as usual, I'll give the collectors edition a miss. _________________

Waiting for the news of the launch party... wouldn't mind going again to get the Collector's Ed and then turn up to work afterwards.
Also, I need to go finish all the other Mass Effect novels (finished the first book), the bookstore near work didn't have any and Borders no longer will accept my gift card I think and the nearest one isn't near, so importy time! _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

The books, while nothing really special, are still a good read, and go a fair way in establishing the whole Mass Effect universe (I think they can be found for about $10 each on Book Depository).
The fourth book will be out in January, and will act as a prologue to ME3. Unlike the first three, which were written by ME lead writer Drew Karpyshyn, the fourth will be penned by veteran sci-fi author William C. Dietz. _________________

If you search through the listings you can find $7 odd versions of all 3 of the books as well. Coupled with the 10% off referral coupons you can grab off the website, they become even cheaper again.
They're not brilliant but they're good trashy Sci-Fi novels that introduce some interesting characters into the fold.
Also, Mass Effect: Deception is up for preorder for $5.65 at Book Depository which goes down to $5.08 with the 10% off deal. Just preordered my copy. _________________

Was pretty focused on making a perfect paragon sheperd, but the call of temptation proved too strong. Being the 'bad' guy is so much easier/fun. _________________

This is probably the only series I would buy a CE for, but I wouldn't pre-order it 8 months in advance.
A lot of great games coming out this year, but I'd give them all up to have ME3 in my hands right now. _________________

I pre-ordered the CE yesterday. Can't help but think Bioware are missing out by not releasing a ridiculous $200+ version. I'd monster it.

Are they better then the comics cause they're kind of rubish. The first one was average at the best of times (Although playing Lair gave me a new appreciation for it) the Illusive man one was just bad though. _________________

The books are okay. Good fun. Dont expect A-grade literature, just expect fun sci-fi slosh and you'll get it. Lots of sci-fi literature tropes, and the occasional stupid crap (Kahlee Sanders is a text book Mary Sue. Pun intended). They're good 'expanded universe' stuff that big Mass Effect fans should love.
ME: Revelation is the game relevant of the series, as it is literally a prologue to both Anderson and Sarens characters. Both characters reference the events of the book in the game, so its worth a read. Its probably my favourite of the three.
Ascension is decent. It follows characters introduced in Revelation, and kind of establishes the books as having their own plot arc. Less game related than Revelation, but still introduces some characters and stuff that was in ME2. Its the point where Kahlee becomes a dislikable Mary Sue, which doesn't help as she's the protagonist, but the story is still fun.
Retribution is okay. It shits on the canon for no good reason, but otherwise has a solid story arc that introduces characters and events that will likely influence Mass Effect 3. Its very much a direct sequel to Ascension, and follows the same characters.
Deception looks to continue the story of a character from Ascension and Retirbution, which is cool. Not sure how good it will be considering the writer switch, but Im sure it will be pulpy fun.
The comics range from pretty bad to awful. Both series (and the two mini comics) are the worst written content in the entire game universe. Redemption is...passable I guess if you're a Mass Effect fan. Evolution is flat out terrible on every single front and should be avoided at all costs, unless you're desperate for more Mass Effect. I wasn't part of all the hate Walters got for his work on ME2, but Evolution made me despise his writing. Its absolutely dreadful and handles the canon in the worst way possible, going out of its way to ruin stuff that was already established. I like to pretend it doesn't exist. _________________

Head over to the Mass Effect wiki and read the summaries for the scoop. Evolution reads like the worst of fan fictions, adding nothing to the universe or lore, and doing everything it can to make a mess of what was established. _________________

Random point to note, Christina Norman doesn't work at BioWare anymore. From memory she was a programmer or level designer on the first Mass Effect, and was upped to lead game designer on Mass Effect 2 and (as far as we're aware) 3. _________________

I'm not sure where she's working, but I'm pretty sure its in the field of mobile/social games, something she's been a big fan of for awhile. _________________
