|

All this talk of the Master Race has gone me back on the PC bandwagon.
Saving up for a good PC, that will come soon enough.
Though at the moment i've Boot Camped my MBP and running Steam on it.
What is a normal download speed on Steam?
I can't seem to get faster than 200 kb/s which is annoying as my connection runs at 19 mbps. I have adjusted the setting so that my connection is at Cable/Fiver >10M and have tried changing servers but no luck. I'm with TPG.
Any help? _________________

For some weird obscure reason, when I set my region to Singapore, it downloads so much faster than my custom region of NSW - Sydney (Internode).
I have no idea what is going on, but I'm grateful I can get far higher than my usual 150-200 kb/s.

Depends on game and server load. Seems that at points you'll get owned on specific servers/locations with speed, but then you switch it to something random and you'll get much higher.
I usually pick the US stuff like San Jose and such and I get significantly higher speeds. I imagine it's because most of the US populace sleeps when I put things to download, so go figure.
It's worth forwarding your ports in your router too. _________________

It's always pretty slow for me too but I find that even at 200kb/s you can leave most stuff on overnight and when you get up it will pretty much be done. So its never bothered me enough to try and fix it. I would leave it on overnight even if it was super fast anyway. _________________

I tend to get around 3mb/s on default servers in Cardiff and Tokyo. Doesn't seem like Steam's particularly limited itself. _________________

San Jose seems to be the best server for a lot of people in Australia, I read about this on Whirlpool a lot, and from my own experience i get better speeds from this. If you cannot seem to get decent speeds I suggest downloading the microsoft program 'TCP View' (windows only), locating the TCP connection/s for Steam and 'Closing the connections' by right clicking. This forces steam to recheck for the fastest server. Doing this a few times usually speeds it up for me. _________________

I used the South Korea one and it went from 150-200kb/s to around 780-830kb/s
But maybe thats just me. O.o _________________

I get about 1.3 Mbps download speeds in Brisbane southern suburbs, never a problem for me... With TPG. _________________

This sale really is hitting the servers hard, every one i try seems to be the same between 50-100kb, gonna take forever to dl games. _________________ Wanna go to space?

I reckon. TF2 is my "go to" game these days and I woke up yesterday to find that it needed a massive 3.5gig to update for the Summer Sale.
Was downloading at a measly 4-20kb/s no matter which zone I chose. Thank god the servers finally cleared up around the evening I managed to get my fix.

You think that's bad: Portal 2 is currently downloading an 8.3GB patch for me. :/ _________________ Twitter | XBL: Tamaaya | PSN: stormo | GameCentre/Steam: StorminNorman
