Being a Mod myself (on another forum), i know the deal. I for one second didn't believe you guys get paid for this (in a perfect world, maybe).
Guess, i'm just a little peeved. _________________

I think thats kind of the point broette. They don't want to moderate it so it's not going to be a forum on this site anymore.
edit: thanks fetid for correction, apologies deamon _________________ Da Bessssss

If members of the community would like to arrange payments of baked goods and sexual favours, i'm sure we'd all hop-to and put in some extra hours fo y'all though |
I'd genuinely be willing to cop one for the team and give a couple of you guys hand shandies if it meant the Game Exchange coming back. _________________

The reward is having the satisfaction of helping your fellow collectors and the Australian gaming community in general.
At the end of the day it was your choice to take the "job" mate and it is your responsibility to moderate.
If you don't want to moderate thats fine and let someone else take the "job".
I am sure there is lots of good candidates who have the spare time to help out the community.
Thats just my opinion of course.

Except of everyone on the site only ONE person actually offered to take over the GE position after I was complaining about it. That's what then sparked this.
As has already been mentioned FalconDude has a site set up with a forum for trading, there is nothing stopping anyone from using his site.

But at the end of the day, they are doing their jobs it's just that people think that they are the police and actually sit there 24/7 waiting for stuff to go wrong. They have work, social lives and general life to deal with at the same time. I don't think you realise how much time Sin put into the Game Exchange. _________________

That's just it, Sin and the rest of the mod team has put a lot of time and effort into making the game exchange work, in fact of all the forums it's the one with the most reporting and the one that requires the most moderation especially when there is a dispute.
Then we had members asking for the respected traders to be updated, which would then become another responsibility of the moderators. I appreciate the user who came forward and offered to help, but it isn't solving the overarching challenges of the game exchange.

Having modded the GE in my spare time while I was a writer here, I can definitely say that it was a hellish experience. People constantly wander into threads and start arguments over prices, others would ignore bumping rules, updating the feedback could be hell (I went through once to see how long it would take and it took hours) and then of course we had the scammers and other issues that would lead to people losing money and then either contacting mods who really didn't have to deal with it, as per the disclaimer in the rules, or would start a mob mentality and start releasing peoples personal details on the internet.
In the end, the behaviour of numerous members within the GE, be they new or old, were causing problems that were damaging Palgn's reputation and also causing a lot of problems.
For the record, if you guys end up deciding to go with a sort of private forum for people with 500+ posts or whatever, I'd be willing to mod it for you. _________________

As both TheAnswer and Blast recently showed, even the more active and trusted users are more than willing to ignore the rules and start a fight. _________________

What about the more tapiresque members?
Even if I can't do the actual moderation, I'm more than happy to take on the responsibility of tallying up feedback. _________________

If the feedback thread was nuked and started fresh and from there everything was counted, it would not take long to have a nice list of respectable traders.
Asking people to post to there eBay accounts that have the same username to show they have good sales etiquette.
I feel like if a few members stepped up we could keep what I think is one of the defining factors of these forums.

Thanks for telling me how to feel about what I do here, I really dig the whole passive-aggressive use of the word 'mate' too - it adds flair.
The mods here, especially those who have taken on GE duties, have put in countless hours so that users like yourself get to have good experience on the forums. The suggestion that we (or I) are shirking the responsibility, and/or somehow owe you anything, isn't appreciated.
The problem of the GE forum extends beyond the matter of having someone to act as sheriff, and it has been thoroughly discussed back and fourth, but we've made the call and have been presented with no reason compelling enough to change that yet. _________________

Can we all try to remain friendly about this, we understand that people are going to disapprove, as has been stated a lot of people come here for the Game Exchange but for the time being we're trialing things without it, amongst other changes, which aren't as negative.
Again, there are people offering up their forums for people to trade, it's not like this is the end of the Internet, nor even, the end of PalGN forums. SO while we do appreciate the criticisms and, I assure you, every comment is being taken on board for FUTURE endeavours, can we remain respectful to one another?

I think everything here has already been discussed in the changes thread and if not, continue it there. If you have anything new you want to add to the discussion of the game exchange. Either post it there or PM myself.
Discussions are ongoing with the moderators about this decision and if a good compromise can be found we'll use it as a basis to re-open the game exchange. At this stage however the decision will remain the same.
