So I have just noticed the message from James regarding the closing down of the Game Exchange. I find it disappointing that it has come to this as it was through this forum I first found PALGN. Obviously I have no idea what the mods have had to deal with behind the scenes so i'm sure there is enough reasoning behind this for them to have to come to this last resort.
Anyway, while I will still check these forums on a daily basis, I am wondering what other forums people currently use, or will use now in the absence of the game exchange. I am aware of ecogamer and OCAU's trading forums but they never had anything on PALGN's in terms of sheer quantity and quality.
I hope in writing this no one thinks i'm trying to desert PALGN for a better forum but as I loath eBay, in the future I would like to know where to buy and sell second hand games. Hopefully this is allowed, if not then i'll understand if it gets locked.
Thanks guys...

I was hoping maybe the mods could make a new forum and upon gaining access to it you are to give out your address and full name with some sort of proof?
Maybe then a select few serious traders can still deal in there with no problem _________________

Ugh I'm with you, the game exchange was the reason i heard of palgn... I can't go back to buying stuff from stores and i refuse to import. What am I gonna do? I looked at eco gamer and theres only like 3 posts from this month! It's a ghost town... We should all pick a site to move our game exchanging to. Gah!

The game exchange over there is restricted to members so you have to log in to view them. Once logged in, there are current threads but still not as many as PALGN. Better than nothing I suppose. Maybe after the shock has settled in of no more exchange here people will starting moving to another forum to trade which might bump up the numbers...maybe
If anyone finds any others, feel free to add to will851's suggestion!
Just again, not trying to ditch this forum for a better one, solely interested in another trading forum. I'm not much a forum person and I am down with the format and where to find everything here so not keen to look elsewhere for general game talk.

I used to frequent the Hyper forums a fair bit quite a while back, they still have the Auction Hut (don't let the name discourage, you can still buy/sell at fixed prices).
You can view the forums w/o being a member, but i think to create new threads in the forum, you need to be a member for a month or something.
EDIT: haha just logged in over there for the first time in ages, i had a few unread PMs from mid 2009!

I'm thinking of just starting a new forum for it. Well technically I already have but I'm keeping it locked til I'm happy with all the settings. If I do unlock it soon I'll put the word out on here. _________________

I was just on the verge of getting a WTS post ready and then I read about this unfortunate news.

So you're gonna advertise on here and let members of this forum know....about your own forum?
Sounds above board. _________________

Well the only reason I've made it is so people could have a place that works like the game exchange. When I say I've already made it I mean within the last few hours. But I don't want to say "hey everyone, come to my new game exchange!" without being sure everything is set up right to prevent issues. _________________

Well I think a new game exchange could work if there were tuff restrictions for the people who were aloud to use it. For example they could have a rule that you must have been a member for over a year and have had over 100 posts. Kind of like how you can't + or - someones post unless you have 10 posts. This way it would be people using it who are loyal to the fourm and they would have a reputation and would not be some blow in trying to scam people. It could be done a lot safer and without so much trouble.

I think it's a good idea, frustrating how all those positive trade ratings are going to nothing now though. will851 is right though, xboxworld.com.au has a good trade forum which is very well run and has a fairly strict set of forum guidelines. Been fairly quiet lately but will probably get a good injection of sales from now on.

It's a shame the Exchange is being closed, and of course there has probably been drama, issues and so on behind the scenes, but is it necessary to close something so embedded in this community and its users because of a minority number of bad users? I haven't been here long so maybe my word isn't as meaningful, but there seems to be plenty of people here bummed by it. Could there have been specific people assigned to have addressed and dealt with these occasional issues so the mods themselves weren't so stretched (and obviously so frustrated) in their general forum duties? _________________

The game exchange is how I managed to find Palgn too. Such a shame that it's getting shut down though.
I agree with what the others are saying, there needs to be stricter rules for trading, either that or have more mods available to regulate the forum. Really sucks _________________ I have no signature

Surely just set some rules, even harsh ones like 250 posts + and a member for 3 months before you can post.
Sucks.

Im sure many websites would actually have paid good money to have the amount of active trades that Palgn had....the demand itself is so hard to get and it's simply getting thrown away.....crazy.
I'm much in the same boat as rarecube, Game Exchange was the main reason I visited the website, been here over four years and I don't think I'll be around much longer now that it's gone. _________________

My story is the same as most people too. I joined because of the game exchange. It gave me a chance to get rid of a lot of games without being ripped off by ebay fees. It also like many other people, helped pay the bills and have money to by more games. I rarely buy games from a shop anymore since I found game exchange but I guess now im going to have to revert back. However, most the games I like to buy cannot be found in a shop. The game exchange was a great place for us retro gamers. Well for what ever the reasons for it shutting i still hope that palgn continues to be a great gaming community. I will still have hope that it may return one day. But for now there remains a big empty hole.

It sounds like from the mods post that they are closing it because people who had been scammed got them and palgn as a whole involved and that has caused a lot of trouble for them. I always thought that palgn had no liability or responsibilty for what went on in the game exchange and I think that's the way it has to be. Maybe if this was made clear we could keep the game exchange? Keep the responsibility squarely on the users, if you get scammed well that sucks and if it happened to me I'd be FURIOUS but I knew that that was always a possibility. If everyone was just cautious and took responsibility for there own stuff I'm sure we could keep it.
As for the high post count etc for getting in, I don't know.... That would have meant I wouldn't have been able to use the game exchange and I would have had no reason to ever come here
Again it's up to the users, so if you're gonna buy from a new user try meet up with them and have a phsyical trade, if they're just buying stuff then they can't really scam you and through that can build up a reputation where people will become more comfortable buying things from them. That's how it was for me.
Oh and thanks for that info about xboxworld, haha I'm a noob...

I think it's pretty lame.
These guys are MODS, it's their job to MODERATE any of the forums on this site. Maybe some people have ruined the reputation of the Game Exchange forums (Bernkill as an example), but it's/was only a minimal majority of users and i'm sure we can all use common sense and realise a scam when we see one. I don't think this warrants shutting it down completely.
Like many others, GE was the only reason i was drawn to this site and even though i may still visit PALGN, it probably won't be as often as i used to.
No use crying over sour milk, i guess, aye? _________________

This forum doesn't exactly operate the way a lot of people seem to think it does, most on here offer their time out of the goodness of their heart.
I don't see why it would be a problem for someone like that dude up there to start a game exchange and invite solid members from here to be involved in it.
In fact i think that is the sane option if you all want to keep it going.
Register the interest and run with it if it seems likely to work. _________________ kill, kill, kill.....the white man. Kill the white man, kill

You call it a 'job' as if we got paid for it, or any kind of reward for the time invested outside of having super-secret mod discussions behind closed doors.
If members of the community would like to arrange payments of baked goods and sexual favours, i'm sure we'd all hop-to and put in some extra hours fo y'all though _________________
