Isn't it a while off for pricing? The WiiU is probably 12 months or more away. I wouldn't put a pre-order down at EB at this time.

I think it's a bit early for 'ouch', considering EB have made this price up out of thin air and it's likely that not even Nintendo know what it will cost when launched.
That controller, however, is bound to make this a reasonably expensive console.
Still, probably won't stop half the forum from getting up in arms about this currently imaginary price.

EB just did it so that they can ride the hype and take pre-orders. They have obviously gone for a price on the high side to reduce the chance of EB having to honour a cheaper listing price when the Wii U's regular retail price is officially revealed.

I said this on vg247, I'll say it again here:
When the 3DS was announced, they had put a $500 price-tag on pre-orders, they were $150 off the actual price.
Let's just wait for the official price announcement first.

From interviews from and post E3, they have said they are aiming for an April 2012 release, whether that's the Japanese release or what, not sure, either way it's less than a year away _________________

Nintendo are not known for making expensive consoles. The machine itself would be rather cheap to make. Its tech is pretty much on par with the other HD consoles with some extra grunt which when it launches will be 7 years after the 360's launch.
The CPU will be faster, not hard to do. There will be more RAM (cutting down development costs and RAM is dirt cheap). The video card could raise the price but Im not expecting anything modern. The controller will be expensive no doubt.
The package though I expect about $400 for it to be able to compete with the 360 and PS3. The 3DS isnt selling that well partly due to a high price point for that audience, for that they need to cut price and release games before the Vita launches. _________________

That's an EB Games price for sure. Though you never know, that wireless touch screen controller could bump the price over the $500 mark. Still, I wouldn't buy one. _________________

I'm guessing it will be 400, but that's going by specs. I have no idea how much the controller would cost.

I reckon they over price their hardware, but because their hardware isn't always too technologically modern, they still get away with being the cheaper option.

The 3DS isn't selling too well because there's not really any good games on it to warrant someone spending that much on it. Things might change next week when Ocarina of Time 3D comes out, but not by much I reckon. _________________

Nintendo won't put such a high price on one of their consoles. They'd rather get more sales than make more off each sale, and since it's EB, that's likely a rip-off type price anyway.

I don't believe that price at all, I would guess $400-$450, EB are just trying to rip people off, or just go for a high price so that they'd only have to lower it instead of raise it later. _________________

You're insane. Even if it is $600, that's nothing compared to even consoles from TWO GENERATIONS AGO.

yeah i was going to say, 600 would actually seem reasonable to me if it surpasses the other 2 in terms of grunt.
ps1 cost 800 when it came out....the pain, the pain of it all. _________________ kill, kill, kill.....the white man. Kill the white man, kill

The consoles two generations ago were a significant step up from the ones previous to them. From what I've seen of the wii-u, it isn't. _________________

That might mean something if we lived in a world where only Nintendo was making consoles. _________________

The Wii wasn't that massive a step up from the PS2 or XBox and the Wii-U most likely won't be that massive a step-up from 360's and PS3's.
They are going to have to price point it at a price that isn't too far from the two other consoles. I'm thinking between $500 and $600 sounds right (if not a little pricey). But I guess time will tell.
Maybe Nintendo will do an Apple and pretend they invented HD, advertise it as HD, and call it ND - Nintendo Vision. It works for Apple, claiming they introduced it to the market when all they did was market it to the technology savvy - i mean, hipsters. _________________

$598 seems about right to me. I don't think it will be less than that.

Yeah but the Wii is in the same generation as the PS3 and the 360, which means the Wii-U is a massive step up from some of this generation. And the Wii was like $400 on launch and is basically a Gamecube 1.5, yet it sold through the roof. $600 for a HD console (on launch, before price drops) is nothing.

And I didn't buy the Wii at launch cause i thought it was a rip off at the price they were asking for what they were selling.
I mean we can argue back and forth weather it's a sustainable price and weather the Wii-u will be able to match the selling power of the Wii etc etc but really I wasn't trying to make any point about the greater success of the console or weather the price is marketable or what the fuck ever. I was just saying I rekon that's a bit steep considering that I own a PS3/360/Wii and have never paid over $500 bucks for a console, and I personnally wouldn't pay that much for it. Hell I wouldn't pay that much for s PS4 or a new X-box either. _________________

^ You could have said all that to begin with instead of "ouch" - I thought you were calling the price outrageous for everyone or from a business point of view. I totally understand that it might be too expensive subjectively. _________________

Your just being ignorant champ, EBGAMES make hardly any profit on hardware, its set in stone by the console producer.
My guess is they are just having a stab at the price so the 600+ customers that ask the question every day can leave with a round about price. _________________ Soldiers Of Rage
