I've always been an enormous fan of the original Darkness, so I was a bit worried with how a new developer would handle the project. After seeing the trailer I was a bit dismayed at its focus on gratuitous violence (which is fine) rather than the storyline, which was a huge part of the first game.
Having seen a 20 minute demo today at Supanova, all I can say is my fears are basically put to rest. I was wary of the 'comic-book' look they were going for, but it actually works really well and is a lot subtler than I thought. It still maintains that dark and gritty feel from the first game, albeit a little more colorfully. I was glad to see that they haven't forgotten the first game and Jenny, as she made numerous appearances through-out the demo. Gameplay wise they have definitely stepped it up as well, basically broadening the possibilities with the Demon Arms by allowing you to throw objects and dismember enemies more creatively than just a straight wack.
I am extremely pumped for it, the gameplay looks to be nothing but an improvement, so as long as the story holds up it could be as good, if not better than the original. _________________

I bought the first one on a whim and absolutely loved it.
The game that single handedly proved to me how important story telling was in video games.
I'm stoked. _________________

My brother loved The Darkness, I couldn't play it as the controls felt like I was handling a drunk.
That trailer.... does nothing for me.

Demo is out on Xbox Live if you're a gold subscriber.
SO. FREAKING. GOOD.
Where to begin? I've been a fan of the visual style from day 1, as I'm a fan of that exact style in the comics. And oh wow does it work. It really looks gorgeous in motion. And besides, it's not often you see Comic Book Night Sky Blue as an actual colour used in a game's palette.
The darkness powers themselves? Already a ton of fun. Picking up enemies and executing them fun and all that, and then you realise you can twist your gun towards them and kill them without an execution move. Impalements, dismemberments, and a skill upgrade tree.
MUST. GET. FULL. GAME. NOOOOW. _________________

Probably next week along with the non-gold Xbox scrubs.
...and decided to Google it before I hit reply. Seems PSN and Steam also gets it next week. _________________

Downloaded the demo tonight and gave it a shot.
Pretty in-line with Goobers thoughts; fucking awesome game. Super fun destroying everyone in your sight. Was also a big fan of the original Darkness and the game looks gorgeous visually.
And for the PC crew, it runs silky smooth. Only downside is no ability to widen the FOV which makes it feel a tad cramped, and not much customisation in settings. But really, game looks fantastic regardless.
Want this immediately. _________________

I haven't played the demo yet but I was surprised to see that in the rating it has "Strong sex scenes" but I looked up and it passed with an MA15+ and unedited. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

Played the demo and loved it. It accomplishes the most important part of any shooter; making the act of simply shooting stuff feel damn good. Crackling gun sound are punchy and impacts are great, the gore is awesome, and there's a great feeling of action and excitement to the gunplay. The darkness abilities are integrated well, making it super easy to be dual wielding a pistol and uzi while ripping off car doors for protection and impaling dudes on poles.
And even though the tech isn't exactly mind blowing, the graphics are super clean and vibrant. Very, very pretty and on my hardware runs at a basically unbroken 60fps.
Pleasantly surprised. Structurally it seems like a standard shooter, but that's not a bad thing if the action itself plays well, and it seems The Darkness II got that just right.
Oh, and the voice work is quite good too. _________________

All this talk makes me want to play the demo again.
The demo.
I might be a fanboi, but this game can't come out soon enough.
I am curious though: How's the quad wielding on PC? _________________

Left and right click for left and right firearms respectively, while Q and middle mouse uses the japanese tentacles for very sexual killing moves. It's pretty good. Takes some getting used to however. _________________

Left and right click to fire both guns doesn't feel natural to me for some reason.

Wow, hadn't played the first one, but tried this demo and loved it. Like Jarrod said it's just integrated so well, shooting stuff and whipping your darkness around just feels awesome.
Is it worth tracking down the first one maybe? _________________

The first game is amazing. You can probably get it for $10 in a bargain bin now, so worth it. It has the same sort of style that The Darkness 2 demo offered so if you like that then you'll love the original.

Left and right click was ok for guns but the whole middle click and direction for right tentacle kills was a bit weird.
Really super duper surprised this got through with its current level of violence..I mean manhunt got banned for lesser than this.. _________________

Loved the demo - I can only hope that the full game hangs together and the narrative boasts the same sort of emotion offered by the first.

^ If you find it somewhere online let me know. I looked at every JB/GAME near me and could only find it on Ebay for $40ish...which is too much for a game that came out years ago. _________________

Even though the controls were pretty messy, I loved the first one. That scene (I'm assuming fans will know what I'm talking about) was amazingly well done, and is the sort of gaming moment which I'll remember for a long time.
I really hadn't thought about the sequel too much, but I saw the trailer for it the other day and damn am I now excited. Unfotrunately it'll have to wait a while though, since I already have a few games I'm playing.
As for where to find a copy of the first one, I used to see copies in 2nd hand stores all over the place(on PS3 anyway).
Eit: I just did a search on the EBGames website and they have the Darkness listed for $15 used for XBOX360. I'd assume either version would be the same cost, but you'd have to check to see if your local store has a copy in stock. _________________
