I've seen Robin Williams live (first and only time he's ever performed in Australia) and very familiar with his recorded live shows, and most interviews... (I'm a massive Robin Williams fan).
And he has talked a bit about video games before, nowadays he's jokes would be about his kids playing Call of Duty, but nonetheless he's very into video games and such. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually approached Nintendo about it, and they thought it would make a great ad for a Zelda game.

God, as you mentioned it I just remembered reading that too. Man I love Robin Williams but I too thought that was a bit of bullcrap.
I had to admit, before coming into this thread, that title confused the shit out of me. but yeah,
