I want! But if it does end up being true it's still AGES away though.
EDIT: I'm wondering if SEGA would have Dreamcast only/exclusives for Dreamcast 2 and since they're a multi-platform video game developer, how would this work?
Are they going to stop being a multiplatform video game developer?

I'd like this to be true, but I'm skeptical. Keep an eye out on other consoles to see if fewer Sonic games are released. If they're holding back Sonic, he may be put into a potential console. Speculation, of course.

Backward compatibility (Dreamcast 1 and SS) would be nice too.

Just when the world is gonna end, damn
In all seriousness, I'm not buying it. They are so into the 3rd party business now and it's working out so well for them. _________________

^ Yeah it does, but seemed like maybe some new evidence to support the claims. I know it's a stretch.
Imagine how amazing it would be if SEGA dropped the D2 bombshell now and won E3? haha _________________

It ain't happening, there's no more room for another console. Gez, how it stands there's little point having the 3 current ones we have.

Seems a tad strange that there's a release date that's exactly to the day and nearly 2 years from now. And apparently Sega only made a statement to some obscure website, "FGNOnline", seems a bit suss to me.

Yeah as said above - i can't see another console entering the market outside of the next generation for MS, Sony and Nintendo. Seems doubtful that Sega would risk coming back into the console market after the dreamcast but at the same time i think they would like to do it.

I wonder if we'll ever get Shenmue III. If they can make so many Yakuza games then surely Sega can throw some money Shenmue's way? Yu Suzuki has been in the news lately with his work on some Kinect fighting game so that's good. I thought he retired or something.

Thing is, we are going through a strange time when it comes to console gaming.
When Sony and Microsoft decided to upgrade their consoles for a casual audience, it was a huge financial gamble that was part of a long term plan to extend the life of this generation. They've invested a lot of money into their plans. At the same time, they don't want to ruin consumer trust by abondoning Move/Kinect 2yrs after release, just so they can go against everything they've said and move on to next gen. Sony and Microsoft have more-or-less committed themselves to the current generation and, having seen this years E3, I doubt they'll be releasing new consoles before xmas 2013/2014.
The other main reason I think they won't be in a big rush is, even if the components are 10x better for their next generation consoles, and double the power of anything else that comes out between now and then... the games will still just look like current-gen games that have been tidied up and run properly at 1080p with decent framerates, higher texture quality/variation and better shader effects. As I've said elsewhere, next gen graphics won't be about the spec sheets, it'll be about development budgets and artistic talent. So if they move to next gen, with the graphical difference being fairly minimal, no new experience as an excuse to move up (like if they had've gone the next gen route when they decided on Move/Kinect, as opposed to the 'upgrade' solution), they are going to want to keep cost to the consumer to a minimum and will be waiting until a big difference can be made with dirt-cheap components. Dirt, dirt cheap.
So now we essentially have this window of opportunity for other companies to establish themselves with their own next gen consoles. I'd say that's exactly what Nintendo are up to, and it's why I wouldn't really be all that surprised if Sega had another go too. I'm not sure how I feel about there being 4 consoles on the market, and it does kind of sound like something a Sega fan would dream up, but I wouldn't completely rule it out as a possibility.
/my 2 cents
If it's true that Sega are returning with a new console, and it's true they are doing a Shenmue game, I hope they just completely reboot the series.
If they aren't though, reboot the series on something else. Or at least do HD upgrades of 1 & 2 and bundle them in with 3.

It honestly sounds like a really bad idea. Sega's profits have never been better and the console market is dominated by companies that Sega cannot afford to compete with.
Why fuck up what they've already got? _________________

Maybe Sega have been deceptive all this time since Dreamcast and have just been waiting for the right moment to re-enter the console market. Who knows? Maybe it's not even happening.

The Dreamcast was released on 9/9/99 in North America.
