Finally had a chance to play it a bit more!

Fired it up on boot camp this time, and forced 4x AA in nvidia's control panel...my god: this has to be the prettiest game I have seen in a very long time.

I'm up to the tomb, and I just haven't seen anything like it. It's like WoW-ish, but FAR more detailed and crisp. It has an ambience to it like no other, there are some massive, gorgeous levels at work here.

I know some people were worried (I was one of them) that it is essentially a dungeon crawler and that you don't venture outside to explore other parts of the world...but that concern has been put to rest for me now. The various depths of what appears to be a mine, but what you later discover is much more are just EYE CANDY.

Visually orgasmic.

I am loving this. At level 27 and it just gets more fun and engaging. If only they had co-op multiplayer.

We just have to sit tight and wait for the MMO which will (hopefully) be released at the end of next year or start of 2011.

Will it be an MMO using the same engine, or will they turn it into a third person WOW affair?

It's the same engine, just enhanced. That's why they made the single player game in the first place, sort of as a tech demo for the MMO they're making from now on.

Nice, well it's a really good little dungeon hack and slasher. I read they also made a gamer called Fate. Anyone tried that out?

I thought this was an amazing at release, but after a few days, I quickly changed my tune. It is a bit too flawed in its current state as a hack and slash loot based game.

I have this game, and its really good! I wasn't sure about it at first, because I usually don't like games that play from a topdown view because I don't really feel 'involved' - but its not so bad for this game and I'm really enjoying the other aspects of it too.

I am still loving it. It really has that - I'll just try and beat the next level feel about it. It's also crazy addictive if you are a collector at heart. Trying to complete sets or getting a more powerful or interesting weapon make it difficult to stop playing sometimes. I've had a few very bleary eyed mornings at work since Torchlight came out. I hope Diablo III is this good.

I have been playing this kind of on-and-off but now I'm really starting to get into it icon_biggrin.gif There doesn't seem to be a lot of depth or varied areas though, so far its just one town and a lot of caves and dungeons so its the kind of game I can only play in short bursts!

I have just finished the part where you have to go through three portals and collect the pieces to open the fourth portal.. I have a question for people who are playing it. I only ever use ranged weapons like bow-and-arrows and guns and staffs, so is there any reason to add more points to my strength?? I have only added a few points to it because I'm not very good at using the swords so I never carry any with me. But I don't want to reach a moment where for some reason I need more strength points.

Thanks icon_smile.gif

Assuming you went vanquisher, I specced in marksman for my skills, getting awesome explosive shot skill level, and just stacked on Dex and Magic in the stats. Its really up to you how you want to play your char, what spec you want to do, what kind of dmg u want to deal. I was a dmg machine using that method. Retired many-a-character already

Thread revival! I didn't really want to make a whole new thread for this.

Torchlight 2 preview - 6 player multi (but a configurable limit?), LAN and online, gender choice for classes.

What's more I just realised the last date set for this is July. That's next month. Too many awesome games coming out right now =)

Not to worry Denny, you still have a little bit of time on your hands...looks like October is the new July for Torchlight 2.

c/o http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=17890&sid=003ea7adca4d433c39ede7b246a3eeb9

Which means it will fall squarely in Diablo 3 beta territory. Bummer :/

^ Well if they both come out at the same time, that'll only leave Denny with one spare screen. Unless he plans to play Dungeon Siege III on it?

So Torchlight II isn't coming out this year.

Quote:
"So... where is Torchlight 2? Didn't you guys say that you were planning to try to release this year?"

Well, yeah. We did - and we made a good run at that. We've come to the realization, however, that getting a game of this scope up to the quality and polish level we want to achieve is going to take a little longer; especially since we want to run a small beta before release to ensure that our launch is smooth.

The first Torchlight was released in record time, but it had plenty of issues that a little more development could have resolved. We didn't have the resources at the time to give Torchlight that treatment. Right at this moment though, we do have those resources for the sequel, and we feel strongly that we should apply them to make this the best game we can make and hopefully one that you'll enjoy and continue to want to play in the future. We've probably had 18 months of full development time on it so far - not excessively long yet, as far as that goes. The amount of time we need to take it the rest of the way is relatively small.

We feel pretty safe in saying that if you enjoyed Torchlight at all, this sequel is superior in every respect. Right now our job is to ensure that the quality level is consistent all the way to the end.

Besides, you're all playing Skyrim right now anyway, aren't you? Or Battlefield 3? Or Uncharted 3? Or Saints Row 3? Or Arkham City? Or Skyward Sword? Or Minecraft? Or Modern Warfare 3? Or Dark Souls? Or Assassin's Creed Revelations?

Those are awesome games. When Torchlight 2 goes live, we want it to be awesome too - all the way through

I think this could be very bad for the game. It puts it dangerously close to a possible Diablo III release date. Mind you it's probably going to be so cheap that I'll grab it anyway.
