| Quote: | Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has admitted that many of the videos used in the Wii U showreel at E3 consisted of footage from Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the games, but insisted that Wii U games will be comparable.
Speaking in an interview with Game Trailers after the publisher's onstage presentation of its new console, Fils-Aime seemed unabashed that the gameplay videos has been purloined from other platforms, pointing out that expecting footage from a machine still a year from launch is overly optimistic.
"Absolutely," replied Fils-Aime when asked if the footage came from 360 and PS3. "Because we're talking a year away from when this system's going to launch."
Game Trailers' Geoff Keighley then asked Fils-Aime if he expected the Wii U titles to have the same visual fidelity as Sony and Microsoft's machines.
"In terms of how good it looks it's going to be driven by what the individual developers do," he answered. "It's going to be 1080p, it's going to be high definition... |

I didn't think that anyone was doubting that, I had absolutely no notion of thinking it was anything but 360/PS3/PC footage. I expect the Wii U to look much better...
and have the motion tracker on the controller.
Especially seeing as there were no ACTUAL gameplay showings, it was just snippets of developers who intend to release on the Wii U as well, and in the main Nintendo clip there was nothing but Mii stuff and a souped up TP clip.
Anyone who thought that was Wii U footage (outside of the Nintendo stuff, obviously) is kidding themselves.

The only real time footage shown were tech demoes. I was under the impression that the sizzle reel was just footage taken from elsewhere.
I'm not really surprised people thought otherwise. Just one more confusion on top of many that was Nintendo's weak conference. _________________

^ thanks, was looking for that. I saw the interview they did with industry analyst Michael Pachter earlier today too. That was actually worth a watch as well if you can find it.

Great interview right there.
I can't help but be concerned that once Microsoft and Sony's next consoles come out that we'll just be back to square one where Nintendo's console is the "odd one out" in terms of performance.

I dunno, to me I think the next generation is going to be all about HOW we play. Not so much what we're looking at. Xbox and Sony already touted that performance was everything this gen and got absolutely trumped. I think we'll see a lot more focus on casuals and as a result, not as huge a leap in visuals, or, if it is a huge leap, I really don't think they'll release successors for at least 2 years, maybe 3. Otherwise all the effort going into Kinect/Move will seem pretty wasted and, effectively, a pretty massive loss.

Guess what. Most of the time footage of 360 and PS3 games are shown it was often rendered on PCs. Nothing new here and Nintendo aren't guilty of doing anything Microsoft or Sony haven't done before.

Do you care if Sony/ms got trumped? Ms might be focusing on kinect but both studios still have massive array of core 3rd party games. Nintendo showed no wii u games. That interview with Reggie was so embarrassing.. "This press conference we're focusing the spotlight on this 5 games (over 2 platforms)" ... Lol.. And almost all rehashes/sequels
I don't know about you but my wii has collected dust for a long ass time and even supposed aaa+ title underwhelmed. *cough* metroid otherm
All i know is both x360/ps3 delivered much much much more compelling gaming experiences this last 6 years. Just way more games that blew my away. _________________

Wait what? So this thing is coming out next year? or am I miss reading this? I was thinking like 2 years away at least.
Cause if it's only a year away from launch and they have no games to show for it that's a little worrying. _________________

wow that's a lot closer than I thought. Is it normal for them to have a console a year and a half a way with no games to show? I honestly can't remember when they started showing games for the last lot of consoles. _________________

We can't really say, "no games" per se, because you never know what is brewing behind the closed doors of Nintendo/first/3rd party development studios.
They could be preparing for an onslaught of games.

Yes it's only a year off.
If you think about a game like infamous 2/uncharted3... They were all shown a year in advance. Infamous 2 was shown last year at e3 and Its hit the shelves. If wii u launches in a year and there's nothing to show for it..Now....
And why would anyone buy a wiiU for ports, says it's $500..that's $500 bucks you can spend on games for ps3/x360 because both consoles will probably get the titles first and both consoles have established install bases. And you probably already have the console _________________

Nintendo are always really cagey about showing games untill like a month or two before they release it though. Also games like AC Revelations were first rumored a couple of weeks ago and are coming out in like 5 months. _________________

It's an unpredictable industry and we can no longer see or predict the future anymore. The Big 3 aren't as reliable when it comes to satisfying customers as they used to be, imo.

As long as people keep throwing money at Nintendo they will continue to do what they want, their showing at E3 might've been deemed weak but they will continue to get sales. The Wii U might seem a bit weird and no proper builds of games have been shown, but I have no doubt it will sell. Then Ninty will release other colours and special editions and they will sell too. Mario, Zelda and other 1st party titles will sell by the bucket load and the Ninty Juggernaut will continue to steam roll ahead.
Just remember the Casual Gamer far outnumbers the Hardcore Gamer like most of us would be considered so what they do might put us off but the Casual Gamer with their excess cash won't care and just continue to buy from the Ninty teet. _________________ RIP Buddha 19/10/1952 - 03/01/2004

I'm actually pretty curious to see how the Wii-u goes with the casual market. I think it's going to be a hard sell to that market to get them to upgrade. I mean 1080p HD gaming with propper lighting etc means a lot to us. But for the casual market will they give a shit about that stuff? Fuck my parents still have a CRT TV. _________________

The casual market like new and shiny things. They also like new and shiny Mario.

People said the same thing about the Wii but it sold heaps too, once one person buys ones and then tells their friends it'll be a "keeping up with the Jones'" type of thing where people will buy one, play for a bit then put it aside to gather dust like I'm sure a lot of Wii's are doing.
A number of us are probably also thinking "nah, not going to buy one" such as I am thinking at this stage but once more proper footage and other titles get announced/shown we'll probably be lining up day one to buy one and then post on here "I HAS WII U!?! DO U?" _________________ RIP Buddha 19/10/1952 - 03/01/2004

The big kicker will it'll likely release at a $400-$500 price point while the others will be $700-$900 and it will become the "accompaniment to your ultra-mega-duper HD console" again.
That and the fact that everyone already has controllers for it in their Wii Motes so for casuals it's a once off purchase plus games no "hidden" extras like with the Wii.

Do the casuals really want a new console though? A few of my cousins brought the wii and haven't touched it since they brought it. Will they really be interested in a new console especially when the price will be so much higher than the current gen and not look better? Nintendo struck gold with the wii but I highly doubt it will a second time especially considering the controller is a lot more traditional than the wii mote.
Also Nintendo traditionally keep secret the console which is why 3rd party stuff at the gate is lacking. Unlike Sony and Microsoft who get stuff leaked way in advance because they let devs start developing on it in advance.

When I chat up women, I always show them videos and photos of huge male appendages, giving them the impression they are mine when they really are not.
imagine their disappointment when they find out the truth
