Pretty much all of the hands on reports coming out are saying that despite how it looks, the controller isn't heavy, and surprisingly very comfortable. Nintendo know how to make comfortable controllers, so I'm not worried. _________________

I was more worried when they showed it on a gun attachment. |
Great, now all I can think of is an Aliens game where the controller attaches to a gun dock and acts as a motion detector.
Thank you very much, now I'm so freaking excited for that possibly happening even though I know it won't. |
That's exactly what I thought when they showed the gun and footage of the Aliens game, that would be pretty awesome if they did it, surely it wouldn't be that hard?

Oh, they actually did footage of an Aliens game? I haven't seen any footage just going by what was mentioned. Then we can probably safely guarantee it's going to happen, and if it doesn't... firebomb the lot of them.

See, I'm imagining the extra screen as being an extension of a lot of these games, and cannot frigging wait. This is the sort of stuff that gaming is actually leaning towards, and it stems from mobile gaming, believe it or not. Ever since mobiles could connect up to a TV I've known things would go this way, and after the iPad 2 being able to display different information on different screens it was inevitable.
To be honest I wasn't actually expecting consoles to go that way (I was expecting a lot more tablets pushing for TV connectivity), but it makes a hell of a lot of sense and is really exciting.
Think of the possibilities a second screen can extend from gaming. Check down in Metro to see your current mask counter and ammo, the afore mentioned motion detector, even just having the inventory on the second screen in Darksiders, would make weapon switching absolutely seamless.

Really?
What about the wii mote?
I thought it was the worst controller since... yep, the worst.
The NES, SNES and GC controllers were rad though. _________________

Thanks for posting that, I dunno about anyone else but I'm WAY more excited about this than I was when the Wii was announced, the stuff that video showed, if even half of that saw the light of day it'll be the best console of the next generation.
And I reiterate... ******* motion tracker or GTFO.

ok just watched the entire thing instead of skipping to the gun.
That golf thing looks like the dumbest fucking thing I could think of. We really need an extra screen to see were the ball landed?
The whole thing kind of reminded me of the original Kinect video to be honest, a whole lot of cool possibilities but who knows if they ever show up. _________________

Button placement on the Wii remote, mostly the d-pad placement, is the only thing I dont like. Otherwise I find the split controller design of the Wii remote a god send of gaming. Both were crazy comfortable, and I hate going back to the DS3 on my PS3.
Split controllers should be the future. Pads suck. _________________

If that controller isn't heavy, then it's going to have really bad battery life. I already think the Wii Remotes are bad enough with how they chew batteries while "off", it'll be 10x worse with a screen on them as well. _________________

Gotta agree, as much as I hate the waggle stuff, the split design was awesome. It sucks that it's not a standard thing though and the sideways wii-mote never works.
Also the analouge stick on the wii is suprisingly awesome, I was aprehensive about playing GGX2 on the Wii without being able to use a pad but the stick worked really well wich is... just fucking weird for a fighting game. _________________

One of the guys on GAF who played it at E3 equated the weight to that of a DS/PSP. He said it was very light. He also said the screen looks amazing. Likely somewhere between 480p/720p, but a very high ppi that looked crisp and clean. _________________

I reckon it'll be over a hundred bucks for the controller, but it's one to a console, so unless it breaks, you wouldn't need to replace it.
In terms of battery life there's no reason why it wouldn't last as long as a tablet, or phone, hell it should last longer because it won't be running a bunch of programs at once or anything like that. I'd expect a few days of solid use to a charge, that's just guesstimating (apparently this is a recognisable word... odd) though.

Then you buy more of them. I think Sin means that it's ok since the console will come with one...? _________________

From what I read in one of the posts in one of the threads you can only have one connected to the console or something like that. Maybe I misunderstood though.

I would assume it's also rechargeable USB ports in a similar fashion to the 360.
Also, was it confirmed it is only one U controller per console? That's... weird. Although I spose if you don't want or need the screen you could just play with the classic controller, no problem with that.
EDIT: Apparently it was confirmed kinda, but they are looking into multiple U controllers according to an interview with Kotaku. I wish it could come with some nice wireless controllers like the Classic controller - without a screen, so I don't have to sync a Wii-mote with a classic controller attached. _________________ "If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you."

from the article posted in the other wii U thread, they weren't going to sell extra controllers (Though they'll have to with breakages) and all multiplayer games would be designed around one big tablet controller and the rest would be wii-motes. _________________

Which does make some sense as all the big third party stuff will be online and won't have split screen, it'll be more the party games that'll utilize the room you're in, which won't really need separate screens per player (although it'd be nice depending on the game).

IR Pointer > Split Nunchuck + Wiimote Configuration.
Both will be sadly missed, but given its Nintendo, we'll probably see a new Wiimote within 2 years anyway.
