I can see the Wii U going the way of the Dreamcast.

People thought the same way when the Wii was released and look how well that sold. Nintendo just keeps bringing people back, they are the Apple of the console gaming world.

The Wii sold truckloads because it was marketed toward, and appealed to Mums and Grannies and just about any other schmoe who isn't traditionally a gamer. I seriously doubt that the Wii U will sell anywhere near as well as it's predecessor.

Plus the controller is too big and delicate, as in fragile for small kids.

Do people realise that there were touchscreens before iPad?

I promise there was. Google it.

Im starting to think Nintendo upgraded the Wii to keep in line with Sony and Microsoft as they believe this gen is going to be extended and the Wii simply wouldnt cut it anymore. Good move for Nintendo to release a WiiHD if both Sony & Microsoft stick to their guns and keep their current consoles going. All indications point to this as Halo 4 on 360 was a major surprise for me as I thought this would be a launch title for a new console.

I just hope these multiplat games such as Battlefield 3 and COD look better on the new Wii.

having said that at this stage as much as I love Nintendo I have no intention of buying this as so far it doesnt seem a significant upgrade over what I already have.

It's not a portable controller/console, Nintendo made that clear. It's only designed if someone else wants to watch the TV.

Do houses still only have 1 TV? Shit we have like 3 in our house and that's not including my girlfriends one that we've left at her mums place cause we have too many tv's.

I guess their reasoning is its much easier to play it on our touchscreen then it is to unplug and move it to another tv. Its like they are trying to blur the line between console and handheld....

Did I really just witness dead pixels on the screen of the controller? I swear I saw 2 separate sets of dead pixels on the controller display, and the thing isn't even released yet.

Eh, I only have one tv (I consider more a waste of resources) and I know a few people who only have 1 tv as well. Anyway, that's what existing handheld consoles are for and would do a better job of.

As for extremes, my mother who lives by herself, has 4 tvs. :s

Right now, I was only able to find 1, but you're right nonetheless.

haha just remembered they explained the name kinda like this: last generation we thought of a console and name that included everyone - Wii. now we wanna make it about everyone personally as well - U. contradictions are fun!

Call me cynical but if that looks very awkward as a console. I like to have something comfortable in my hands when I'm playing on either a home or portable console, and this seems like it would satisfy neither. Make up your mind Mr. Nintendo

I'd say there's still well over a year for Nintendo to listen to feedback and tweak the controller. Hopefully they switch to sticks at least. If not, I'll probably be grabbing a 2nd wii classic controller anyway, so I'll mostly be using that I think. Unless the screen functionality is just going to be too good to pass up - in which case, what are the chances of 3rd-party WiiU controllers?

A lot of people writing off the console, probably more than a year away from it's release. Sure, it was a pretty dismal reveal, but personally, I'm going to be taking a wait and see approach.

We should start a petition to make the XBOX 360 controller standard across all consoles.

It really makes you wonder if they'll release separate versions in a bundle, one with and one without the controller. Seems pretty pointless to people that have a TV to themselves and older Wii controllers they wish to use. The controller is pure gimmick, and doesn't seem to make or break a game with the extra view. Surely the $600 price point includes the controller, but I reckon it could get as low as $350 - $400 without a bundled controller; a price point which alot more people would go for. $600 is still substantially cheap compared to 360/PS3 launch price, but $600 won't cut it today for similar technology with a gimmicky controller.

And can't we use the PSP as secondary cameras in games like Gran Turismo and others already? Never hear of people actually using their PSP for these purposes.
