Great news and all, but what about Portable Ops? Having never played through it is it not really important to the overall storyline?
Also it is a little disappointing that MGS1 isn't included...

Zone of the Enders is great news though, I only played a little of the first game and I heard the second is much better.

Portable Ops has a couple of the most memorable moments in the series for mine. The gameplay was flawed, but was a result of the PSP's limitations more than anything. It would've improved dramatically with 2 thumb sticks, so it's disappointing it's not included.

Still, this is an automatic purchase.

Is Portable Ops really necessary for the story though? Are any of the events referenced heavily in the rest of the series?
Maybe they'll do a "PSP Remaster" for it.... I'll buy it if they do.

Not really, but neither is Peace Walker. You know Big Boss' basic story if you've played the main games, but I suppose there's just added depth to it by playing the PSP games.

Yep. Adding depth to the main story is pretty much what non-numbered games are for! They're never truly essential, but you will get a much better understanding of the overall plot if you play them.

Unless you're talking Kingdom Hearts, then you're fucked.

When Kojima first announced Peace Walker he mentioned it was the true sequel in the franchise. So I'd just thought that'd it'd be more important to the canon story than Portable Ops.

Anyway, who's up for some co-op when it comes out in Novemeber? icon_smile.gif

Considering my MGS2 is very damaged...Day 1 purchase. Trophies/Achievements are nice too, and a first for the MGS series!

You can use your Peace Walker saves as well, which is good!

The best thing about Peace Walker was that even when you thought you finished the main storyline, there is another amazing ending to look forward to after finishing a few other missions.

I would be very surprised if they didn't use Substance and Subsistance in this collection.

Not too sure about Subsistance, but definitely Substance, they recently republished Substance and Snake Eater, but not Subsistance, so they might do the same thing here.

I love you Kojima! Be nice if there could have been Twin Snakes in the collection too. Hope they're the Substance and Subsistence versions too, although it doesn't look like it from the box art. Psyched for ZOE, never got around to playing them.

It just seems like it'd be a backward step if they didn't release subsistence, with the proper camera control and all...

Awesome news. It's a shame there's no Twin Snakes. I understand not having the PSP games (although it's a shame) but excluding the first is a bit silly. Was it Subsistence that had the MSX Metal Gear game? That would be a cool inclusion.

Yeah it was subsistence, however that was on the bonus disc which I doubt they'd include here.

Ok, the version of MGS3 in this collection WILL be Subsistence, and it will run at 60fps.

Shame they didn't include MGS1 in the package, it's IMO the best in the series plus newbies to Metal Gear will be lost when they start playing 2. Still a day one purchase for me.

It is already available on PSN though as a PS1 classic. But XBOX users will be a bit stumped I guess... But then again they are without MGS4 anyway.

I'm betting the PS1 MGS and Portable Ops would take a lot more effort to bring them up to scratch for a HD collection and so they're skipping them. Same goes for the lack of the original Silent Hill in that collection. They're going for quick cash-ins with minimal effort.

I doubt Peace Walker is a simple cash in, they're having to revamp the entire control scheme, and since it's also got Co-op I assume they're going to have to include PSN/XBOX Live functionality too.

Might pass on MG collection. Getting Peace Walker for birthday and want to get 3 for 3DS. 2, I can live without playing again. ZOE collection, I'm very keen for.
