Has anybody found any of the film reels in their travels? I haven't seen a single one.
Also, did anybody else notice that when you are promoted from traffic to homicide, the captain says that you have been promoted from burglary (one of the desks I think they decided to drop) to homicide?
Thought that was a pretty glaring mistake, although not really a big deal.
Anyway, I've been replaying cases, seeing what happens differently and clearing up the remainder of the street crimes etc. One of the achievements/trophies involves causing $47,000 worth of damage in a single case. Boggles the mind how anybody can manage that. With everything at 1947 prices, it could take all day.

And after just completing the Vice desk I also think that it's the exact opposite of "dragged" I actually think it needs a bit more to flesh out the story, which stems back to my original point, the narrative really needs some "outside the department" moments because apart from one scene, which was pretty vague and a newspaper headline it was completely from left field. |

I also was going to get a map for the film reels, just curious if anybody managed to find any without a map.
Agree with what you are saying re: noir genre, but I'm a bit confused... who is the Russian potential femme fatale you are referring to? Feel like I missed something.

He probably means Elsa who is actually German. The lady who sings at the Blue Room.

A real detective plays L.A. Noire.
Actually a kind of interesting video. The overall verdict is that the game mostly gets things right for the time, even down to things like the look of the morgue and the police station. _________________ Twitter | XBL: Tamaaya | PSN: stormo | GameCentre/Steam: StorminNorman

That. Ending. Was. Awesome.

That said, it looked like Sheldon shot Phelps in the cave, but maybe I saw it wrong, could someone clarify that for me? Nevermind, credits just finished and I got the after credit scene, they did leave him there. I wish I could replay the cutscenes.
In regards to the game, all my previous pros and cons are still very much valid, it tells an incredible story and the gameplay is phenomenal but I just wish the story wasn't so forced, and that there were more serious repercussions for making a mistake. The forced story made for some odd encounters, as far as I can recall, I never investigated the temp bartender, yet apparently I recognised him in the final Homicide case.
The schizophrenic interrogations were immersion breaking as well but I can't really hate on it too much, it's done something different and we can only hope that it's built upon for future games.
The best moments were definitely with Kelso though, while Phelps became much more interesting towards the end he just wasn't a great protagonist, Kelso was actually a guy I could follow through with and actually root for. Also I thought it was a really nice touch having the blood trails on Kelso's hand after getting shot and also, at the funeral, him still having a cut on his face from when he chucked in the boot. Great attention to detail.
I did think it was a pretty amazing twist that in the end it took Kelso the "**** up" to save the day. So freaking awesome, now I just want to play it over again and catch all the things I missed.
Oh, and I will be a VERY happy man if future games revolve around Kelso and his Investigative job,I can't say it enough, that guy is awesome. |

Yeah I'm pretty sure Sheldon shot Phelps, it was the culmination of the groups disrespect and frustration with him. Kelso carries him out of the cave as he tells everyone to never speak of what happened.
You spoke to the temp bartender in the first bar you investigate in your first homicide case (The Red Lipstick Murder), it's a forced conversation where he directs you to the bar owner and he explains that he works for a temp agency (this is also where you can get the Round Heels trophy/achievement for answering the Bar owners first question correctly). Similar to when you enter a building and have to speak to a secretary.
I actually guessed he was the serial killer during the 3rd or 4th case, there are several clues during the course of the homicide desk. When you enter the El Dorado bar and interrogate the bartender there, he explains that the night of the murder it was just him and a temp bartender working. Yet Phelps never asks for his details, which you'd think is standard procedure. Phelps also makes a comment during one of your driving conversations that there must be a common link as all the victims die shortly after visiting a bar.
I thought overall it was fairly well done without giving too much away. |

The R* pass is now up on XBL for 800MS for a limited time, which after it will raised to 960MS or $12PSN. The R* pass includes all the pre-order DLC such as The Naked City and A Slip of the Tongue, as well as all the suits etc... As well as also getting free d/l of the final two DLC cases released in June and July. You save 50% buying the R* pass then buying it individually.
If you already have some of the pre-order stuff you can get the DLC separately for 320 points for cases and 80 points for suits.

Totally there, I wants me some new cases! I should probably add, that's a ridiculously good price for what you get.

Hopefully Sony will get the PSN store back up soon, I'd love some new cases and think I have just enough in my wallet.

I was going to buy the Rockstar VIP Pass, but if you do a manual search on the PSN Store for all the pre-order DLC separately, they're free! I'm not sure if it's a mistake or not, but I've just downloaded Slip of the Tongue, Naked City, Badge Pursuit, Broderick Suit, and Sharpshooter Suit.
I'll just buy the 2 upcoming cases when they come out, I'm sure they'll cost less than the $15 for the pass.
PS: Naked City is about 1.2GB, Slip of the Tongue is 687MB, the rest are just 200KB unlock keys. _________________

Wow, the PS3 versions are three times bigger than the 360 versions, interesting.
Oh, and for 800 points they're ridiculously good value.

Yeah....only came up as free when I downloaded the Rockstar Pass. Of course it was hard to know if I did ACTUALLY download that or not because it doesn't show up in the download list and the store is bugging out like crazy, I'm lucky i got the two DLC cases downloading! _________________

From the Digital Foundry comparion:
Direct comparison of the files between the 360 and PlayStation discs throws up some interesting factoids: elements such as the movies, generic audio and the motion capture data appear to be effectively identical between both systems, taking up the same amount of space. However, on the "cases" data for example, we see an enormous difference - the PS3 occupies a mammoth 14.3GB of data in one single file, while the 360 uses just 5.48GB spread across the three discs in a number of different files.
While there may be any number of explanations the most obvious would be that Team Bondi needed to do a lot more work to fit the 360 version onto three DVDs than we might have anticipated. Bearing in mind that game content is effectively identical, it suggests that the programmers had to implement a computationally more expensive compression scheme on Xbox 360 to make the game fit - and on-the-fly decompression of these assets may have performance implications.

Hmm, guess I was lucky then. I just tested it out, and the cases and outfits all work perfectly. Seems strange, maybe it was a mistake and Sony fixed it. _________________

I'm trying to stay away from this thread as I don't want to be tempted by spoilers. Anyway, I've just finished my first homicide case and am really enjoying the game thus far.
My only griefs are;
a) frame rate drops during driving scenes
b) how the doubt/lie system works. Sometimes you think you have the perfect evidence against someone's lie but then Phelps accuses them of something completely else. Likewise with doubt. I wish there was more indication of what Phelps is going to say before you select an option
c) side missions! I swear, every time a side mission comes up for me it is on the other side of LA right before I reach my marked location
Also, that G4tv video was great! Nice commentary and more so, it revealed a completely different way that case could've been solved.

Oh just wondering, after reading about different compression on each console I thought you may have been playing on 360. I'm on PS3 also but never had any issues with frame rate.
I'm pretty sure you know the fast travel trick right? You saw my comment in the article thread. _________________

Yeah, but I prefer not to use that fast travel (miss out on side missions). But yeah, frame rate only dumps during the car scenes, and at times random. The frame rate in general on these parts are low though and the graphics look a pixely mess.
Just found this face-off thread;

I often found that the side missions were on the other side of the map. I just accepted the mission, got out of the car and made my partner drive.
Also, you can finish the side missions after completing the game, so don't worry about missing them.
No frame rate issues for me and I'm on PS3.
