Its an amazing car. its spacious and cute and mostly reliable. That's all I want in a car. |
Mostly?
TBH, When I replaced the clutch in my car I also had to get the fuel pump repaired. Then again at the time I was hammering my car up and down a very windy/twisty/hilly/fun road almost everyday. Poor old Gertrude I've given her a hard life...
As ugly, slow and old as my car is, I'm so damn attached to it. There's a weird sort of love for it that's come from the amount of history I've had in it and all the times it's brought me home safe (Like the time I did 150kms with less than 5 litres in the tank, defying basic science/math).

Word to that. Most of my mates are baffled at why I don't have my license, and the answer is the same every time; I don't need it. Being able to drive around would be a nice luxury, but I simply don't need it. Everywhere I want to go I can get to easily and happily with public transport, and I save money from not needing to buy fuel, insurance, maintenance, and...well, the car in the first place.
If I was still living at my folks or in my home town I'd absolutely need it, but not in the city. _________________

with how close i live to the city these days and my proximity to my current workplace (which, as much as i have dreams to move on to bigger and better things, is a good solid job with some pretty decent conditions) i really don't regret never bothering to get my license - in fact, i just realized my learner's permit actually expired yesterday... _________________

I couldn't wait to get my licence. The freedom you have.
The trouble with public transport is you have to run to their schedule and often have to change many times to get somewhere far.
Anyway. My current car and what I have done.
I previously had a VR Commodore which I converted to manual with a bad outcome so am staying away from the power train atm.
'02 VXII Commodore S
Stock Manual - I do plan to put a new 3" exhaust in. Also a Solid Mass Flywheel as the Dual Mass is begining to slip alot and my throwout bearing is very noisy.
Cant be bothered too much with other power enhancements. Too poor. Have done a hot earth to help with the power draw to the boot.
I have also put 17" VT HSV Senator Mags on. Also have converted my Interior ligth to blue leds, my dash to blue leds and have blue neons in the boot. I need to take some more recent photos.
I have a thread about my install of a Car PC.
7" Lilliput Screen
10 port powered USB hub behind dash
Slot loading DVD drive
Logitech C510 Camera behind Rearview Mirror facing forward
Joycon Explorer Steering wheel HID
Dual Battery Isolator
2ND Battery in the boot
600W Pioneer Amp powering 4x 350w Pioneer Speakers
2ghz Core 2, 60SSD, 2Gb Ram, 9600GT running Windows XP
Reverse Camera
My boot still looks like that. Been too lazy to fully finish the job. The important things is that it's functional. _________________ Games for Sale

When I drive it's my wife's 2000 Kia Credos. It's ugly but dependable. We need to get a new car soon though (thinking Civic or Golf right now)
My 1991 Hyundai Excel kicked the bucket a few years ago, never bothered to replace it since I catch the train to work. That was a great car up until the electronic fuel controller started acting up and the car would basically shut off while turning corners on hot days. It was really scary to have your breaks go stiff and the accelerator lose any usefulness, then the steering would lock up!

I currently drive a 1999 VT Commodore Berlina. Here's my favourite photo of it - I took it along the Great Ocean Road.
I've recently been thinking of of buying one of these:
And fitting it with one of these:

I drive a 1990 EA Fairmont Ghia at the moment, had it since I got my P's mid 2009 and (for the most part) it's still going strong, mainly becuase it only had 90,000 on the clock when I got it.
Posted a pic of it in the newest purchases thread when I got it, so here is a picture of what I did to it before our year 12 "Drive Through" (A tradition at our school where the year 12's do a few laps in/around the school grounds with music/horns blaring while the rest of the school watches in awe).
If I'm luck in a month and a half or so it will be superseded by a 2001 AU II Falcon when my friend upgrades his car, mainly becuase the new car will run on gas which will literally save me hundreds of dollars in fuel since most of my work involves driving around town all night. Also, it's an ex-police car which will be kinda groovy _________________

From the time I got my license until 2 years ago I owned 3 different Ford Falcon's. I loved those car's but with the rising cost of fuel these days, I downgraded to a Hyundai Excel. Mine looks pretty much identical to this one, except its green.

How did you know it was 5 litres remaining? Trip computer?
It varies car to car, but you could have as much as 5-10 litres remaining in the tank and fuel lines after the point at which the fuel gauge or trip computer tells you you're done. _________________

Well it's a 60 litre tank (According to the manual), and I put in 55-56 litres when I made it to the petrol station. I'd imagine there could've been a couple of litres leeway (It was a very cold evening as well, so the tank might've taken on extra fuel).
I was still blown away I made it that far (For reference, it was Sydney to a place the other-side of Moss Vale, via Wollongong/Macquarie pass to drop someone off).
and no, my car isn't fancy enough to have a trip computer.

i'm pretty limited to what i can and can't drive due to my height, and really Commodores and Falcons are probably my best bets.
wasn't really too keen on a wagon initially, but i've had it now for over 3 years and it's actually quite fun to drive.
i just wish it were a manual.
the only other car i've owned was a 1985 VK Commodore - manual.
it was a brilliant car for mostly the wrong reasons. had some of the funkiest electronics i've come across:
- to start it, you needed to turn the headlights on first.
- the windscreen wiper control needed to be turned complete revolutions 3-4 times before they would come on.
- turning on the air-con meant the radio would come on, with or without the CD Player unit-face.
- turning the indicators on would mean half the speakers in the sound system would cut out. which side depended on which way you were turning.
- it also had an issue where the electronic fuel injection light would always come on while driving, telling me there was something wrong with it, which was interesting because it didn't have EFI.
it was a great car to drive.
it ended up getting stolen and never recovered one day from the train station. the funny/awesome part about it was that at that time, i had been saving for a complete gearbox change as the current one had lost second gear completely, i had a replacement clutch at home, and because i was running late, i hadn't filled up the fuel tank, and prior to returning to find it not there, i was wondering if i would even make it to the petrol station in order to get home.
it brings a smile to my face to think of a gang of thieves trying to start my car (headlights), feeling hot so they turn on the aircon (on comes the radio), going to turn and not finding second, and wondering why they went deaf in one ear.
still, it was insured for an agreed value, rather than market value, so i pretty much got double what i could've hoped for trying to sell it.
i've driven way too many other cars over the years to list them all, but i suppose the only other ones worth mentioning were the 2 custom vehicles my dad built for competing in motor-khana events - though listing it as "custom" doesn't really help describe it much.
it was basically an engine mounted to a seat - designed to be highly maneuverable. great fun! |

'86 corolla. Born the same year I was and I reckon I'll probably die before it does. It's lime green with a baby blue bonnet and it shakes when it goes over 150 kph. You can undress now ladies.

Selling the Toyota Rav4 and maybe getting a BMW hatch or Lexus hatch/IS250. Porsche might go also.
