Awesome thread
There was no way to decide what my 9 favourite games are, so I decided to just pick the first one that came to mind as being a standout on the platforms that I've spent the most time playing.

Haa, I actually slept on this, but I bet I've forgotten something.
SMB 3: Pretty much the only game on the NES we had, and although the parents were really strict on playtime, I didn't even care that all I was (motsly) doing was replaying the first world each and every time. I knew it like the back of my hand. And really, the first video game we had.
Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6: SNES RPGs. Brilliant.
Pokemon: The craaaaaaaaze that started it all. I guess it did start off (in my mind) as a fun, monster catching game, but as I played more and more iterations of it, it dawned on me that it was a very deep RPG, and I guess that's why I'm still playing Pokemon Black.
Deus Ex: Like, duh.
KotOR: This was actually a toss up between this and Jedi Outcast. Outcast was the first Star Wars games I actually played, and by golly, it was a good one. But KotOR was pretty much a pinnacle in Star Wars licensed games for me. Plus, it introduced me to Bioware.
Mafia: Again, another toss-up. This or GTA: VC. Kind of similar, but not really. VC was damned fun. And the loud Hawaiian shirts, the colour, the characters, and the period music, brilliant. But Mafia was the first sandbox-y game with such an impactful story. That and the setting, and having to pull over for speeding, that's what made it memorable for me.
Persona 3: My first SMT game, and a damned great one too. P4 was more polished, but this game just had more impact on me.
Advance Wars: Dual Strike: Maaaaaaaaad fun. _________________

I hate hate hate these lists because I always end up forgetting lots of amazing games. It's just so unfair, you can't sum up your entire gaming experience in nine pictures, so I tried to pick a nice mix of stuff.
GTA IV: Best sandbox game ever made.
Portal 2: Best puzzle game ever made.
Ico: Teardrop...
Shadow of the Colossus: Bigger teardrop...
Metal Gear Solid: A revolution in cinematic video games.
Resident Evil 4: I hear a chainsaw!
Battlefield Bad Company 2: The best multiplayer FPS ever made.
Burnout 3: The best arcade racer ever made.
Beyond Good and Evil: The best...photography game ever made? _________________

Oh man completely forgot about Mafia. I agree whilst VC was an awesomely fun game, Mafia had an amazing storyline. The pace of it is much slower than VC but that's the point, its the story and characters that keep you playing it, not necessarily the gameplay. _________________

Because I'm so cool and keep on seeing 3x3's heavily biased towards JRPGs and games from the last 10 years, I set on making a 3x3 with 3 games from each decade I've been alive, ie the top row covers 1981 to 1990; middle covers 1991 to 2000; and bottom covers 2001 to 2010. Each of them has had an impact on how I think about games.
Elite - No goal to the game, just keep on trading and getting cooler stuff.
Impossible Mission - The "intelligent" "open world" platformer before Metroid came along.
Maniac Mansion - Not only the first adventure game I "got" as a kid, but also a trailblazer for multiple solutions.
Lemmings - The first game I really obsessed over, it got in my head like nothing else up to then.
Doom - The next game I obsessed over, I modded this to hell back in the day.
Deus Ex - First Person Everything.
Metroid Prime - What sells me this Metroid game over the others is the presentation - the first time Samus' eyes reflected on the visor you're looking though was a "whoa" moment.
Resident Evil 4 - Third person action games were fairly mundane to me before this one, and it was a better horror than the earlier games.
Far Cry 2 - The first true role playing game - stats are for babies, this one asks you to live, breathe, and think like a mercenary out of his comfort zone.
And games that didn't make the cut include:
Boulder Dash
Ghosts n' Goblins
International Karate +
Monkey Island
Dune 2
Eye Of The Beholder 2
It Came From The desert
TIE Fighter
Carmageddon
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Super Mario 64
The Half-Life games
Eternal Darkness
Wario Ware Twisted!
Team Fortress 2
The Darkness
Alan Wake
Castle Crashers
Uncharted 2
And because it seems like bait:

Uh huh. I bought it on release and can't recall playing a more frustrating game in the last few years, simply because I chose to uphold Faith's rather pacifistic leanings and try to complete the game without using weapons. But the game really doesn't want you to be a pacifist. It wants you to go all Rambo, and punishes you if you don't. It's a game of good ideas but poor unifying vision. _________________

So much Mario.... so many of these could change at the drop of a hat, too.
Tetris and Pacman are insanely addictive, I could play them for days. I've gone with the versions of them I played the most - for Tetris this is the original GB version, for Pacman this is the very cool Championship Edition.
Super Mario Kart was multiplayer crack in the SNES days for me and my friends. In the Gamecube days, it was Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Super Mario World and Pokemon Blue were the first game I ever really truly got into in a big way. I guess Pokemon was usurped by the various sequels, but it still owns a place in my heart. Dead Rising, meanwhile, was the first time this gen that I really felt wowed by this gen. I really enjoy go-your-own-way type gameplay, and DR delivers that in spades (As a side note, it is also drastically different looking to everything else on my list).
Mario Galaxy 2 is the second closest I've seen to a perfect gaming experience. Every level is fresh, and, more notably, fun. At no point does the game feel like it is repeating itself or dragging on in any way. My number one gaming experience? Yoshi's Island.

Mine!
Lots of great memories! PS2 = best console.
Ar Tonelico: Such a great, unique RPG which received two fabulous sequels.
Kingdom Hearts 2: A masterpiece RPG, what more can I say? Stunning.
Ratchet and Clank: An ingenious platformer by one of the masters of the genre.
FFX-2: Still the best battle system in an RPG, and a good follow up to FFX.
Smash Bros: Creative, incredibly fun brawler which really caught my attention.
The World Ends With You: Best soundtrack in a game. Very creative battle system and story!
Dragon Quest VIII: Amazing looking RPG with a fun story and battle system.
Bioshock: An impressive shooter-RPG that creates an amazing atmosphere. Good story too.
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2: Looks amazing, with epic boss battles and fun fighter gameplay.
An honourable mention goes to Persona 4, which is one of the best JRPGs ever made. _________________

Could not possibly agree more with this. I love Mirrors Edge as it has a great vision and the aesthetics are fantastic, but to play it as a pacifist is an incredibly frustrating experience at points because many situations seem catered towards using a weapon or combat. It sucks, because when the game works, it damn well flies.
Also, some honourable mentions that didn't make my top 9. That list was so hard to make:
Legacy of Kain series
Chrono Trigger
Half Life 2
World of WarCraft
Mortal Kombat (the original)
Turrican on the Amiga
Prince of Persia (the original)
Devil May Cry 3
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Metal Gear Solid 3
Quake 3: Arena
Unreal
Super Mario 64
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Jedi Outcast
Super Meat Boy
Demon's Souls
Aliens vs Predator 2
Mega Man X
So many...memories aaauuughh *nosebleed* _________________

In no order:
Super Smash Bros. Melee: The Gamecube version is the best to me, the only thing any other has over this one is the nostalgia in the first.
Pokemon Soulsilver: It's everything the original was with all the additions of today's Pokemon games.
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: I would play this every chance I had at the arcade and it's my favourite fighter.
Super Mario Bros. 3: The GBA version was the first proper platformer Mario I owned.
Sonic Adventure 2: It was kinda hard to choose this or the first.
WWF: No Mercy: The best wrestling game ever.
Mario Kart 64: It's Mario Kart.
Batman: Arkham Asylum: I first thought of listing Ultimate Spiderman but then I quickly remembered this and how awesome of a game this was. One of the few games of this generation I've finished.
Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy: I played the multiplayer with the bots so many times. And what isn't more fun then force grip and dropping a stormtrooper off a bridge ? _________________

Interesting that Portal 2 is on so many lists. I haven't played it yet, but are people happy that the current post-completion awesome feeling they have will continue?
Not saying there's anything wrong with it, but can you label a game one of your favourites so soon after completing it?

I was so close to putting FFX-2 over FFX in mine but I think I enjoyed FFX just a little bit more. The World Ends With You would have definitely been in my top 20. Ahhh it's frustrating picking just nine!

The first 5 are my favourite games ever and the reason i love gaming - the n64 era will always be my gaming memories.
the last 4 are the games i put the most time into either solo or in smash bros case with friends.

Looking through these, there's so many I could have put on the list that I didn't think of.
Batman Arkham Assylum
Dragon Quest 8
Super Mario World
Kingdom Hearts
Mario Kart 64
I thought of Heavy Rain but I left it off the list because I needed one more gam and I put Yakuza 3 instead of HR.
I also thought of True Lies on SNES but as much as I love the game, the games I listed are better.

Nice idea
Well this is mine. Yes I am a modern kind of gamer, so sue me >_>
They are not in order, I've never really been able to list my top 10 anything in any particular order, just a bunch of games I have loved more than others and would probably class as my favorites. _________________

It's one of the ones I didn't put down in my "Almost made the cut" list. Strangely enough, load times are my biggest memories for the series - I first played WC1 on an Amiga without a hard drive, and the first time we loaded up WC3 was with a dual-speed CD drive and it took 35 minutes to load up a mission and a further 15 once you autopiloted to the first checkpoint. I think that's the first game that caused my dad to buy a hardware upgrade - it was immediately playable with a hex-speed CD drive.
Still, no Privateer/Freelancer love on here either.
Civilization II caused me to get lower marks in high school. True story.
I'm trying to remember all the games we had on the PC in the mid-to-late 90's, my dad got rid of the old collection so all I have is the ones I bought myself. Mostly consisting of FPS (SiN, Heretic 2 are standouts) and RTS (Command and Conquer, Starcraft). I did manage to rescue his copy of Spycraft though. I never sat down and played that properly. Also surprising is the lack of Descent love (minus the Freespace series). Did no one play that? _________________
