still waiting for my 3 AT3 soundtracks to arrive from japan. I might get the Cocona album later as well. I'm not putting the difficulty down, if the battles get easy then it'll become boring. As for Ymi, please don't judge star ocean 4's free roam style with AT3. SO4's is ridiculously fun, everything flows so well until all you see are bright flashes from multiple attacks connecting from all characters, it feels great. Personally I prefer SO3's system though, I liked the idea of short range and long range attacks and that energy barrier... but SO4 added in special move combos which is awesome. AT3's is really closer to Tales of Vesperia than SO4.

What game/s does everybody recommend I should buy for the DS (RPG) Games, I haven't really played any other RPGs, other than the Pokemon Series.

Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest, Harvest Moon titles? Any other ones I may have missed.

I'am a beginner to the RPG genre. I normally shop from the UK Online Stores.

Thanks

The RPG catalog on the DS is absolutely huge and they're all quality games. I'll list some of my personal favorites.

The World Ends With You - Incredible soundtrack and an intuitive use of the touchscreen. I really enjoyed the story too, it reminded me of Gantz.

Etrian Odyssey series - I'd start at either the third or second game. It's a first person dungeon crawler that's pretty traditional. It uses the touchscreen to draw maps so if you enjoy that feeling of exploration and mapping your path then check it out.

Dragon Quest series - IV, V and VI are remakes but amazing ones at that. IX is an entirely new entry into the series and while not as good as the older games it's still great.

Shiren and Izuna - If you're a fan of tough rogue-likes then give these a try.

Strange Journey - The fourth game in the core Shin Megami Tensei series. It's very similar to Etrian Odyssey and still just as tough. I prefer EO though. It's worth playing just for the mature and deep story.

Final Fantasy III and IV - Both are remakes but I couldn't get into IV. I enjoyed III a lot though.

Devil Survivor - Excellent strategy game with a turn based battle system. It's short but offers tonnes of replayability and an awesome story.

I recommend getting Radiant Historia and Suikoden Tieri-something. Radiant Historia absorbed me pretty fast, I'm getting back to it soon. Apparently it's hard to find now? The World Ends With You is like a DS essential title. You have a DS and you must have a copy of it. Also not sure whether it counts as an RPG but the first Phoenix Wright game is quite enjoyable.

edit: breaking news!
"At today's Level Up conference in Dubai (of all places), Namco Bandai announced that the two Tales titles that were recently confirmed for North America - Tales of Graces F and Tales of the Abyss 3DS - are also headed to Europe.

Tales of the Abyss 3DS wasn't given a release timeframe. Tales of Graces F however, is set to hit European shelves sometime in 2012. Namco Bandai also mentioned that Graces F will be for the PlayStation 3. Interestingly enough, the company refused to mention the title's platform for the longest time until now - even though it was also a PlayStation 3 release in Japan. Graces F is an updated HD version of Tales of Graces for the Wii, with all kinds of extras including new story content.

Neither game's North American release date has been finalized yet. "

Anyway after retrying 3 times, I went with the F it and used aura of valor and then did a mega special move, that made a 30 min battle become a 5 minute one. Really happy to get that over with, however I'm wondering whether I should finish up the game or attempt the extras. Leaning towards the earlier due to year 12 eating a lot of my time.
There is a good chance Skies may win the position of my favourite game,

Nice man, how did you end up getting your swashbuckler rating back up. It look likes you went alot more aggressive then I did against the impostor. I just made sure to use Justice Shield and Delta Shield but my battle lasted 30 min unlike you. What you could do in regards to finishing the game is to finish it first then go for all the extras after wards that way it wouldn't be your number one priority. Speaking of which have you got the yellow crystal yet.

its not a bad game, sure it's not a grade AAA title rather focusing on being a fun little game that doesn't take itself too serious. Controlling a Steambot is just like a katamari so if you played any of the katamari games you shouldn't find it too hard. There's not a lot to the storyline but there is a lot of optional things to do in the game.

Also I second OropherX in regards to Radiant Historia and Suikoden Tierkreis (close mate) but also Mario and Luigi : Bowser's Inside Story for the RPGs for the DS.

Now to end with an announcement it seems that there is going to be a Dragon Quest collection for the Wii. The first three games that were on the NES and the SNES remakes will be on the collection. It's being released in Japan in September with no English release date announced.

thx icon_smile.gif and yea i guess i was sort of looking for a write up , having completed steam bot - the controls on it more or less felt like a bull dozer lol but yea its a quirky one , it saddens me to say this but the 2nd one was canceled in wake of the quake not long ago.

Haha, I wish I had justice shield, would probably have a lot more easier bounty/boss fights. Anyway I did manage to obtain the yellow crystal and then I continued onto about 5 hours later.
I'll do a more detailed post about it on friday or saturday as fairly busy again (mid-years and a lot of SACs are coming), so yeah...

Oh yeah my Swashbuckler rating rose like a phoenix, throughout getting the yellow crystal and afterwards. I was really thankful for it as I've wanted to take on Mr. Impostor for approximately 4 or so years. I think Skies was my best impulse purchase ever, I just saw and went "pirates and sky ships" and had to buy it. icon_biggrin.gif

ugh I'm really confused. I knocked out the first 4 cosmosphere levels for Finnel pretty fast and they only had like one piece of dialogue before a shift... compared to about 20min long ones each level in the first AT games. Started to wonder if I was doing it wrong coz generally you needed more talk topics before being able to proceed in the other 2 games... i went from 2-3 3-4 4-5 pretty much consecutively.

Also as expected all cosmosphere backdrops have been recycled from the previous 2 games.

edit: nvm it's normal, interesting new take on the cosmosphere =o

Keep going with Finnel's cosmosphere icon_wink.gif.

I'm a bit on the fence about which RPG to start next. I have in mind The Dark Spire, Valkyria Chronicles, Ar Tonelico 1, Trails in the Sky, FFIV Complete Collection or Ys Chronicles I & II. What do you guys think?

I would say go with Valkyria Chronicles then AT1. VC1 and FFIV are both pretty much 30 hours each (friend just completed ffiv on psp and said so - without after years and middle story). AT1 is 50. Ys1 and apparently 4 hours? Not sure about II though. TiTs is like 70 hours from what reviews say... no idea what dark spire is.

Valkyria Chronicles it is then! Actually I've been kind of craving something I can sit back and relax with. VC seems to fit that nicely.

The Dark Spire is supposedly very long and incredibly difficult like verging on the impossible. Well that's what I've heard anyway icon_lol.gif.

I really should just finish off Valkyria Chronicles 2... if i sit down with it for 3 hours I can finish it off since I'm at the end but I'm still bitter that the game makes me replay the same maps over and over and yet denies me the right to upgrade protagonist to scout elite... i can't even remember his name but I remember Welkin from first game. Just shows how light 'no one really cares' the story of 2 was =p

That surprised me a little as well, but I figured that there had to be a catch. icon_smile.gif It gives you a bit of a glimpse of Finnel's true nature. I feel like there was another cosmosphere like that in one of the other games.

A version of Disgaea is coming to the Android platform and it will be free to buy with in game purchases. There is a limitation in that this version specifically focuses on the item world.

It may be Japanese only at the moment.

So, I gotta question: saw John Marston's post selling Ar Tonelico Qoga (which I sadly missed as I had cheer practice). Where do you get the soundtrack with it?

All PAL copies come with the soundtrack as well the premium edition for the NTSC. You might as well take JmiYeo's offer as it's the one I gave him from my U.S premium edition =p You'll notice that on a PAL copy of the game there's this circle which says 'includes game soundtrack' as per John's pic. The case has 2 of those disc insert things.

The soundtrack only has about 39 tracks and it took all the crappy ones (seriously the normal game music in Qoga is crap while the battle songs are good). I bought the real OST which has twice as many tracks from Otaku.com

Ah, I see - I've been waiting for it to come down in price, so I haven't bought it yet (and therefore didn't know icon_razz.gif). JmiYeo, thank you for the offer but I wouldn't want to deprive you of your own copy!

Man I have to say.. after 10 hours of AT3. Compared to the first 2 games which were about serious relationships and building up to them, it's like the characters in AT3 have raging hormones from the get-go. Like Saki, even though she's all sweet and innocent looking what's really in her mind... >_>

Jedi if you play Qoga I'm looking forward to your impressions to see if women are offended by games like these like the gamespot reviewer =p

Anyway finished Phase 1. Hope I didn't miss anything... I don't think I'll go for platinum, too much of a chance I will miss one or two chests and have no idea which ones they were.

I'm normally not offended by those things, I think the reviewers are just overreacting icon_razz.gif I won't be playing Qoga for a while though, I haven't yet gotten a hold of the first game (plus my bf stole my PS2 to play GTA...).

The only missable chests are in the Eternus Gallery, I think there's 10. You'll be back tracking heaps so it's likely you'll come across any you've missed during your first run through an area. It's handy to create a separate save file just before heart point events so you don't have to redo the entire Phase in NG+.

Who's your favorite character so far?

Honestly it's Tatsumi, solely on the basis that I knew who this character was from the start and am curious about the story progression from AT2 <_< Also Sasha looks so much older now... like 5 years older than she was in 2 :/

In terms of reyventeil I like Finnel more even though I'm kinda leaning to finishing Saki's endings... I'll hold off for Tyria though =p Still think Aoto sucks as a lead though.

Mute's voice is starting to make me lol now. It's to brilliantly forced, i have to check who does it.

I have to hold off on searching for talk topic missables as it leads to story spoilers and really if the story is spoiled for me this game is just going to collapse -_-

You sure? I'll didn't know OropherX was giving me that as well when I bought the game from him. I would've decline coz now I got 3 copies of it.

Well, offer still stand if you change your mind and pick it up in the CBD during weekdays.
