I would reply to this, but at 1kbps it seems mean to waste geethua's bandwidth with my petty posts.

I don't like the Melbourne speed test server. It really is balls. The ping is all over shop, sometimes I get better ping from the Adelaide servers, and I hear Adelaide still prefers dial-up. _________________

Not bad, considering I'm at a fair distance from my exchange.
My mate's paying for a 12Mbit connection, though as he's ridiculously close to his exchange, it occasionally connects him at 18. Lucky git. _________________

Been like this for close to a month now, browsing australian sites is fine.
International websites are fubar - anything from 5kb/s - 20kb/s being the maximum.
Can't download from filehosting sites
Can't use youtube properly
Can't even log on to Steam because of it
/RAGE!!!
I have read about numerous causes - Japan Earthquake and Tsunami related, some routing issues as a result. Also have read that it's a "REACH" issue , Telstra are doing jack all about it.

If I wanted to I could push that to 18 odd as I've done in the past (manually lowering SNR), but I'd prefer a stable connection with good speeds.
Not bad for 2.2km. _________________

So funny when someone popped over earlier and tried to download something using their wireless connection - would have taken an hour. I offered to grab an Ethernet cable to hook into my connection, the program downloaded in 10 seconds .

PC over a wireless N LAN:
Same PC over 'Ethernet over Power':
I didn't realise how much of a difference the ping changed over the wireless connection!
It's really handy with iiNet to be able to switch between connection types, depending on my needs. For example, the EA servers for Dead Space 2 MP are shocking, so I'd go for the low ping (~10ms) "Gamer" profile, whereas the 'Thrillseeker' profile is great for managing excessive download requirements. _________________ Playing: Fallout: New Vegas
