Will probably be the first year I won't tune in for the conference live (and the IRC craziness, memories). Looking forward to blown minds/megaton Wednesday morning.

Unless I get fired between now and then. But I'd probably rather miss the conference and keep the job.

I'll consider staying up for this one if it's being live streamed again. I was hugely surprised and pleased by how well Nintendo presented themselves at last year's E3.

They have no plans on releasing it in the near future. It only works with 80% of people. Iwata isn't even considering it until it works with 99%.

but up to 12% of people are unable to see 3D effects propperly and they release a console based on it?

Also... they're still seriously considering that fucking heart monitor thing?

(apologies to those who read my last post. I am aware how little sense it made):
Nintendo implemented a 2D mode for the 3DS, meaning that (almost) everyone could play it, even though some could only use 2D mode.

There is no "compatibility mode" for the vitality sensor. If you are part of the 20% that can't use it, you can't play the game at all.

I'm honestly shocked that they're still wanting to go ahead with it. I thought it had ended up with them going "wow... that was a fucking stupid idea" and dropping it.

Also how does a heart rate monitor not work on 20% of people?

20% of people don't have a strong enough pulse for it to work with a little finger sensor, maybe?

I'll be watching to see how much RAM Nintendo are putting into Project Cafe (hoping at least 2GB). Also to see if the measly 8GB of flash storage is upgradeable. Will be interesting to see some of the games running on the new console too.

It's bound top be a better conference for Nintendo than last years anyway.

Nintendo destroyed last year and will do even better this year. This is probably the most excited I have been. HD mario, zelda etc and the fect third parties will most probably release their games on nintendo and the whole touch screen controller. I have already started slowing down my game purchases cause I think the "stream" (please no wii 2) will be my console of choice.

Who cares about heart monitor nintendo will set the way for innovation yet again

I thought last year was when the wii started lagging behind in sales compared to the 360 and PS3?

You mean like how they 'inovated' with this brilliant idea of motion controlled gaming aimed at a casual market (that sony had started doing years before)?

Nintendo don't inovate, they're like Disney, they take existing ideas and polish the absolute fuck out of them.

Sony didn't have a controller for Eyetoy. And the games worked completely differently.
Plus, did you see the Balance Board? Touch Screen gaming? The D-pad? The Analog stick? The first game not to suck 20 years after it was made? The first 3D game to get it right? The first 3D game to reallyget it right? Glasses-free 3D tech? An analog nub that isn't shit? God damn Pikmin?

Regardless of whether or not they're a shit company, you gotta admit that they are pioneers.

Nintendo's E3 last year, even with its sloppy Zelda demo, was really good I thought. It broke the traditional Nintendo E3 cycle of craptacular graphs and long winded marketing spiels by having quite a few games show up, a new hardware reveal, and Iwata. And man, maybe it's the fanboy in my talking, but I just love hearing Iwata talk.

Im hoping Nintendo take notes of the positive feedback from those attending and keep this year similar.

I'll give them the balance board. That's it.

Sega had a touch screen the sucessor to the game gear before it was shelved, the d-pad was polishing the design that had allready been used on many arcade machines and addapting it to a handheld controller, atari were using analog sticks way back in the 80's, wolfenstien and doom (Also even if that were true it counts as perfecting something that already existed) Glasses free 3D tech was developed by Sharpe and has been in phones and cameras for a while, an analoug nub that isn't shit is still perfecting someone elses idea. And I'm talking hardware not software.

Software wise they've undoubtedly been innovators (though if anyone mentions mario galaxy again I'm going to slap them) hardware wise though they're very good at taking other peoples ideas and perfecting them. That's not trying to take anything away from what they've done. They've deffintly perfected a lot of stuff (Though sony perfected the analogue stick on controllers, the 64's analogue stick was shit)

I just find it a little bit rich that people can sit there and say with a straight face that Nintendo were the first people to do a really good 3D game and an analogue stick when I was playing Mech Warrior 2 on my analogue Logitech stick 2 years before the 64 even came out.

^ I contest the fact that Sony's analog sticks are perfect. If they where perfect, they would have concave surfaces to stop your finger slipping around while your trying to execute a quicktime event in God of War.

I think the difficulty is that nintendo isn't just building a heart rate monitor, they want to read a persons heart rate and then deliver a software based outcome. My guess is that 20% of people don't fit into the average heart rate patterns nintendo has calculated and so the software response is inaccurate or unpredictable 20% of the time.

I wonder if that will be the case and if so it would really be comfortable in the hand to play with *insert that's what she said joke*.

I think Nintendo will try and keep the price down by having as minimal tech in the controller as possible, so in terms of displaying games it will almost entirely be streaming the data from the main system itself. It would be pretty pricey to stick a lot of rendering tech in each controller.

However, with your line of thinking, I wouldn't be surprised if they used built some Cafe/3DS connectivity, allowing you to download some WiiWare or whatever to the 3DS system.

@Benza: SUPR MARO GARAXEEE. Galaxy, or more specifically Galaxy 2, isn't really 'innovative', but a pretty strong example of the kind of thinking you have there. I seriously consider Galaxy 2 to be the absolute apex of 3D platforming, better than every 3D platformer that came before it.

I really like Galaxy 2, in case you didnt notice.

See that's what I mean, what they do they do extremely well. When they take an idea they pretty much do perfect it. I mean sure the whole planetoids with indvidual gravity as a platformer was done before Mario galaxy in Sonic Adventure 2, but it sucked in SA 2.

It's just not very original.

I more meant the mechanics of how they worked. The 64 ones always had that irritating chalky residue they left everywhere and got really loose after being used too much. The Wii one also always feels a little dodgy (the cube ones felt fine though) The Dual stick controls on the PS1 worked basically the same as they work on controllers today.

Galaxy 2 is the best 3D platforming game. When played with a 360 controller through an emulator in 1080p. Seriously why would anyone want to play a 3D platformer with a remote?

Meh. There's nothing in Galaxy 2 I consider hindered by the remote. All the jumping and moving is digital/analogue anyway, and the only 'waggle' is the spin, plus the pointer, and I honestly feel both work wonderfully.

If the jumping were tied to the waggle then I might have a problem, but it's not so WINNING.
