Cian, it's possible to straddle the divide between console and PC gaming. I've got a PC that I spend a lot of time on, as well as my PS3 and then there's a DS and Wii kicking around my house somewhere. I prefer to play strong narrative games (Dragon Age, Fallout, etc) on my PS3 so that my wife can follow along.

Anyone care to name me as a PC gaming apostate? I challenge you to a StarCraft II grudge match!

Heck Denny has a PS3

Sorry Jahanzeb, but I really like multi-stage JRPG bosses. Sure, they can take a while to beat, but the genre wouldn't be the same without them. Lady Yunalesca comes to mind.

I'm pretty sure saying that out loud guarantees your death in 2 days time.

Also gotta agree with both of Jahns points.
The thing I hate the most about insane fighting game bosses are there is no difficulty curve. You blast your way through most of the game and BAM! DIFFICULTY FUCKING CLIFF IN YOUR FACE! Bitch you can't fireball this fucker he will teleport behind you and suplex your arse into the ground? What's that you managed to get in your ultra move Bitch he's allready kicking you in the head. FUCK YOU SETH! He's not even the hardest but my god is he the most irritating. I mean the unlimited boss fights in blaz blue are far harder but they feel less like they're cheating... or more like they are more open about it. When you see Hazama with a giant sphere of green energy that sucks your health in if you stand near it you know he's cheating. You accept it and you work around his cheating. When Seth grabs you out of any fucking move and blatantly ignores times when you SHOULD hit him. FUCK YOU SETH. FUCK YOU.

Also 3 hours for the final boss in FF8? Are you shitting me?

I'd like to add:

1 - control configuration - or lack thereof. Why do some games force you to use the controller the way they like it? There's no particular value added experience in having to specifically press b or circle to jump. Surely we can choose our button config.

2 - Split screen - Or lack thereof. Halo 4 player split screen was the best. Combine with another TV and and XBOX with Halo and who needs a Wii for a party game? Surely there's no harm in having split screen multiplayer. Especially given the size of people's TV nowadays.

3 - JRPG emo kids - you know the type. The brooding 14 year old with a history who doesn't say too much other than the weight of the world is upon his shoulders. S.T.F UP!

4 - Steam installing a game via the internet - when you insert the disc in. Dawn of War 2 is the culprit. I have run a manual command I found in forums to stop Steam downloading the game I just bought at retail.

5 - Square Enix's questionable quality of late - On the SNES they had FF4/6, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana. On PS they had FF7-9, Chrono Quest, Tobal No 2, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, FF Tactics.
On PS 2 things slowed a little - FF10 and 12 were ok, FF11 wasn't quite and not much with the other going with the other franchises. Now we have PS3 and FF13 having the dubious honour of being on sale for $38 not long after appearing, and the FF14 debacle. Note - haven't mentioned the Enix side of things - like Dragon Quest. I'm focussing mostly on Square games.

On another note - I like the crazy numbers in JRPGs. It was really satisfying beating the Ultima weapons in FFVII
It's interesting you didn't use a Nintendo DS to highlight the iteration peeve. I've lost count of how many versions there are.
As for cliffhanger endings, I'm still waiting for a sequel to Freespace 2.

"Pre-order and retailer specific DLC" - I'll definitely second that.

And may I add:
Developers shipping broken games.
Endless updates. Sorry PS3 owners - I feel for you.
Impossibly difficult achievements/trophies.

Should I point out Jarrod has a Wii?

That was it right? Not including the other PC-master-race propagator?

Could not agree with Jahanzeb more (about the muti-form bosses).

Maester Seymour ruined my FFX experience completely.

Jarrod's a completely open Wii Fanboy.

Yeah I know. Denny's not exactly quiet about his PS3 either (go look at a Killzone thread/article). Just trying to puzzle out why Benza thinks I've got a price on my head now....

Split screen can be a technical hurdle thing. You need to get the console to basically run multiple versions of the game at the same time.

But yeah, love split screen, games need more icon_biggrin.gif

One of my biggest pet hates is the hyper competent little kid you get on your team in pretty much every JRPG.

Seriously they're like 8 and they can keep up combat wise with a 26 yearold mercenary for hire? What the shit?

And some do this better than others...
I remember a couple of mates and I being impressed by the vast increase in graphical quality going from CoD: Black Ops to Mario Kart Double Dash.

Couldn't agree more, but the boss wasn't my issue, i love extremely hard bosses, my issue was the 13 minute unskippable cut scene u were forced to watch if u failed and had to do battle again.

The thing that irks me the most is people will behave in the the worst manner online and they wouldn't do in real life (most would be in violation of people's rights). The virtual identity somehow makes them believe its alright.

Poor behaviour is still wrong regardless of what they think and its never alright.

Companies (mainly Nintendo) rehashing games every generation stating they are catering for a new audience.

I've ranted about this before, but this x1000000000000000000000. Its not so much a problem now that I've got tons of internet to throw around, but when I was on a limited quota it was so annoying.

FEAR 2 and Empire: Total War both did it. I had to do some stupid work around like yanking the network cable out mid install so it took data from the disk.

Take it from a cancer survivor; there's worse that could happen and plenty of other games.

of course there's worse that could happen, I don't think anyone here really believes that a bad game design is that big of an issue. But it's nice to vent every now and then.

Also maybe take you're own advice and try a different thread then the one about video game pet peeves if it bugs you so much?

I am suprised nobody mentioned to consoleitis that is dumbing down great franchises by "streamlining" them and "making them more accessable". That and the fact that the current generation console hardware has been holding gaming back for years. Add waggle to the mix and I am proud to support the master race icon_razz.gif

A dodgy camera is high on my list of annoyances. It's a shame when great games are harder to enjoy due to poor camera angle or control hampering the experience. That's only a minor annoyance though and a lot of things that have already been mentioned (like computer bull**** and unskippable cutscenes) annoy me more icon_razz.gif

*EDIT* By computer bull**** I mean cheating AI etc. I'm not having a go at PC users icon_razz.gif

Fuck escort missions in the butt with a rusty machete.

I have never played an escort mission I didn't hate.

Also instant fail stealth missions. The ones were as soon as your seen you fail.

Fuck that, I want to be able to atleast fight my way out. You're telling me link who has hacked his way through god knows how many zombies, skeletons, gorons, giant dragons etc etc can't take on a couple of dam guards at gerudo valley? Bullshit.
