Perhaps I should use the computer at my parents place instead of waiting... maybe after the 1.2 patch?

You should! It's a top game that keeps getting better and has endless potential!
You can basically spend a whole day just closing rifts, which is a lot of fun in itself, then you've got the quests/story, massive characters customization and PVP.
Probably the best MMO graphics ever, gameplay almost identical to WoW and it's still new enough that you won't feel left behind at all. _________________ My YouTube game videos!

I don't think I could spend a whole day doing nothing but closing rifts. They don't really differ that much. Walk in, kill mobs and rift closes. Same thing every almost every time with the rare variation.
I do however love the invasion events. The only problems with them is when the population of "special" people that are in every MMO drag it down for everyone else. No one ever guards the Wardstones and 5/10 times the event is a failure. And as I said before there is also the issue of them sometimes triggering when there clearly isn't enough people in the zone to deal with them.
I agree on the class system. It give your character a lot of options and it's really fun to play with.
I haven't really played many MMOs apart from WoW so I don't really know where the bar is set on questing in the MMO world but the questing in RIFT is a little bit a of a let down for me. It's mainly do/collect/kill x number of this and it really isn't much better than Vanilla wow questing before the Cataclsym changes.
I haven't tired the PVP yet. Really focused on getting to lvl 50 so I can see what the game has to offer in end game PVE content. Raid content in particular.

I'm not talking about the mentally handicapped if that's what you are thinking. I'm talking about the kind of people who can make it the lvl cap and still not know how to perform any of their class roles in at least a half competent fashion. The kind of people who get big flashing messages on their screen telling them to stop standing the fire yet they still stand it and blame there healers for their death.

Heh, nah, I didn't think you were, I just didn't know what type of people you were referring to in the MMO-scape (i.e. as you said, those who level to the max level and still don't know how to play their character).
There is nothing better in an MMO than getting the praise of other players for playing your character so well

1.2 patch is out now, some big additions and changes.
Also, there's a free 7 day refer-a-friend thing. Anyone without the game, give me a yell if you want mine... _________________ My YouTube game videos!

I was waiting for 1.2 before I jumped on... damn I shouldn't have started Shogun ! I would raise my hand for the 7 day trial, but considering I already actually own the game, I think someone more worthy should get that

Actually Phreakuency, apparently you can hand out as many as you like, and each one you hand out nets you an ingame prize. First is a pet dog, then a hat, then a fiery horse. So if you are still handing out passes, I'll take one

Was just about to say "wanna party up?" but I can see you've reached level 50 . Congrats.
I've been playing the trial with a friend over the past few days and we're only level 11 so far. It's been an absolute blast. It kind of reminds me of Guild Wars in a way. I picked a Rogue with Ranger/Bard/Marksman souls.

Just installing Rift but I probably won't play it until the weekend. It asks me to select a region; NA or Europe, we all on NA?

Would be NA servers, Europe pings are generally always worse.

Roger! Now to look into what class to play. I'm leaning towards bard. Are there any particular classes that are underplayed?

Also, I beliee the unofficial Aussie servers are:
Briarcliff - PVP
Wolfsbane - PVE
In addition I know quite a few people in my MMO guild are playing on Tearfall, which has guilds such as The Older Gamers (TOG).
Not sure on classes post release, but the Justicar (priest class with no healing) was quite an impressive class in beta.

I haven't had time to sign up for my subscription yet, I'm tempted to finish LA Noire and The Witcher 2 first before moving onto Rift. Usually MMOs suck all free time out of my life.

It is really addictive. I was playing with a friend last night and before we knew it it was 3:30am .
Rift looks really stunning when you just stop and look around. I'm so use to consoles and their limitations that I start to forgot how powerful modern PCs are nowadays.
