Another fighting games I think deserves a mention is Psychic Force, I really loved it when it first came out in the arcades (not sure if it was ever released in the arcades here in Australia), then was later released on the PSOne. It was popular enough to spawn a sequel (Dreamcast release was called Psychic Force 2012 and the PSOne release was called Psychic Force 2).
There was also a puzzle bobble style game called Psychic Force Taisen and was popular enough that an anime OVA series was made.
The home versions got a pretty cool anime intro. The game, story and fighting styling reminded me a lot of X (the anime/manga series by Clamp).

Ha it is like that anime X. There were soo many interesting fighting games on 5th generation consoles. Learning so muchh from this thread
Who here still likes Virtua Fighter? I played Virtua Fighter 5 online a few days ago and was really surprised by the fact that I could still find players so easily! the game came out ages ago (2007). _________________

I love it when games are still heavily supported still by the community. I did enjoy VF5 (I've lost all my skills now though). _________________ Shin J Leon.

I've been a huge fan for years, back in the MK1, Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, World Heroes and SF2 days...
I mainly enjoyed playing Neo Geo games, not sure what it was, maybe because there was one in every fish & chip shop.. I also had a decent video store near me when I was younger and could play the US imports of Art of fighting etc.. (the SNES converter thingy)
I loved MK games 1 -> UMK3.. They were cheap fun and you didn't need to really think about it (except for remembering fatalities)
It was just about kicking ass and killing your buddies..
WWF Wrestle mainia the arcade game.. That was the BOMB back in the day... soooooooo many hours wasted lol, I remember thinking I was sooo RAD when I figured out how to do this shadow choke slam when no mags or instructions had it listed..
Without dragging it a few thoughts on some titles.
Tekken's- I was fortunate to get a PS1 when they first came out and with it being a launch title had sooo much fun. All tekken games have great.. T3 was very technical I really enjoyed Tag and T4. I only briefly played tekken 5. (T6 is great!!! one of the best ever fighting games created)
KoF, Battle Col & Capcom vs SNK - what a series....
Battle Arena Toshinden - Was fun and anoying at the same time..
Soul Calibur's... Great fun.. Tekken with weapons and bigger boobs!!!
Killer Instinct.. The original I liked on arcade, the 2nd one I only played on N64 and didn't think too much of it.
Virtual Fighter.. One of the hardest and technical games I've played in my life. So easy to pick up and mash, but to master HOLY JEBUS!!!!!
I hated 1-4 when growing up, I was loyal to tekken and u was either a VF or Tek person where I would play... When I got into 5 I was amazed at the depth and how technical it is.. I am really looking forward to a VF6 as the add-onto 5 won't come to consoles :/
So many others to mention.. I've only just purchased Blaze blue and it’s very shiny.
The new MK is great fun, however it needs a few tweaks to make it a serious fighter. _________________ XBL - myzz

Psychic Force 2012 is the second fighting game I ever played. I found it fascinating as a kid, I'd never seen anything quite like it before. Man, I'd almost forgotten about that game, this thread has brought back some interesting memories. Good times!
The first fighting game I ever played was Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast. That console really served as my introduction to the genre! I didn't like SC at all though, and traded it in for Sonic Aventure. I didn't regret that decision for a second. I'm not a big fan of fighting games, but I do have a bit of a history with them.

Same here! I spent so many hours messing around with that game, great fun. Did you ever get to have a go at the sequel? _________________

Digimon Rumble Arena 2 is the only one I played.
I like how it's like Smash Bro's
I haven't played quite a lot of games mentioned here. I only got to play the demo of Rival Schools The demo was awesome. I have seen some movies and listened to some of it's music but that can't compare to actually playing the full game.
Killer Instince Gold I wasn't that fond of at first but I ended up buying it like 4 years ago and as I played it more I ended up loving the game.
When it comes to the enjoyment I got out of playing, Tekken 3 and Killer Instinct are the greatest fighting games I have ever played. They are the only 2 fighters where I learned the majority of.
Sadly these days I don't have the love I did for fighters. I buy just about every fighting game that comes out but I never seem to play them much.Though that's the way I am with most games these days. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

Oh my god, I totally forgot about my Neo Geo Pocket Color, I use to play that like crazy when it first came out.
I only ever had 3 games, Fatal Fury, King Of Fighters R2 and SNK vs Capcom The Match Of The Millenium.
There were still some wanted it on, Last Blade was one, Samurai Shodown 1 and 2 and Gals Fighter. _________________

I found it hard to get a hold of games too I only managed to get the system & MOTM because a friend bailed on his pre-order at a local shop that imported games. I got another couple of games because another customer bailed on their orders of R2 & Metal Slug at the same store and ordered Last Blade & Gals Fighter from there also. I'm not sure what happened with the NGPC in the US, but ages ago Playasia had a heap of NGPC US versions of games that were new, but cart-only for next to nothing. I think I picked up a few games like Card Fighters, Fatal Fury & Samurai Shodown then.
----------
I know this is old news, but Guardian Heroes is getting a XBLA release. It's not a vs fighting game, but figured it was ok to talk about a beat-em-up here. Highly enjoyable game developed by Treasure, sunk a lot of hours into this back in the day due to the great gameplay and replay value from the branching paths. There was also an arena mode for vs matches, but it was so unbalanced that it was impossible to take seriously.
I think the game is supposed to be pretty popular and finding a cheap copy can be difficult, so this may be a good opportunity to play a great game for a low price, assuming that the port is handled well. In the interview linked above, the guy says the port is being handled by Treasure themselves, so could be a good sign _________________

Hey I got Radiant Silvergun for my Saturn, ah another old ass console which got put away. I do remember buying a heap of fighting games for my Saturn. It had that memory expansion card which was great for SNK and Capcom games.
I have to remember to check out the second hand video game stores when I'm back in Japan. Hopefully they'll have a few old Neo Geo Color games. _________________

This is totally awesome of Treasure, both games are just so darn expensive! I hope Sega follows suit.
I am a proud owner of a Japanese Saturn, will probably send you a list of stuff to buy for me when you go to Japan, Ciel
So many rad fighting games on it, so far I own Last Bronx and Fighting Vipers. Would love to own the Saturn version of Street Fighter Zero 3, which I hear beats the Dreamcast version even. _________________

I can't remember the total amount of Saturn games I had, I know I got 2 Japanese Saturns some where. The white model which was the cheaper version and a Hitachi Saturn which could play VCDs. OH YEAH! VCDS BABY!
This isn't a complete list, but I had a few fighting games for my Saturn.
- King Of Fighters 95, 96, 97
- Fatal Fury 3
- Street Fighter Zero, Zero 2, Zero 3 (I believe it's Alpha for the english release)
- Street Fighter Collection
- Street Fighter: The Movie
- Fighting Vipers
- Last Bronx (with that cool anime intro)
- Virtua Fighter 1, 2, Kids, Remix
- Vampire Saviour (Darkstalkers for the english release)
- X-Men Vs Street Fighter
- X-Men: Children Of The Atom
- Zero Divide: The Final Conflict
- Asuka 120% Limited Burning Fest
- Toshiden S and URA
There's probably more there some where, I'd have to dig out my boxes. Also had a crap load of shooters. Reflecting back I kinda did have a pretty large library of Saturn games, never really noticed it.
Got more fighting games on my Neo Geo CDZ, World Heroes, Samurai Spirits, KOF series, Fatal Fury series, Art Of Fighting series, etc etc.
Pretty much my entire Saturn collection are Japanese releases. _________________
