Won't matter really, St Kilda's chance has been and gone. We built a team to beat Geelong, did that, then fkd it up. Our gameplan last year was still good enough to beat most sides, but now..
We'll still make the finals, but I don't see it happening again for this group. |
Whilst it certainly looks as bleak as you suggest in a similar fashion I doubt that Collingwood are as dominant as they appear after round 2 that we might as well all go home and just let them take the cup again. We have some critical errors with our side currently as shown last year by starting the season with 70-80% goal accuracy (shots on) to this year traveling at less than half of that, but at the same time, you have something like Brisbane winning the first 4 and then falling away horribly to reflect on that things can still be rectified.
FWIW, Geary also broke his leg in the VFL so we won't be seeing him this year either you would assume. |
Obviously there's time to turn it around this year, but without probably 4-5 changes to the current squad I don't think this team would be more than maybe a contender for 4-8.
We have struggled missing easy shots, and Riewoldt, Goddard and Montagna are all a bit out of touch. but last year when Rieeoldt went down you could see the players still had the desire to make it work, this year I can't see it.
Geary's only ever going to be a depth player I think, and a leg break doesn't always mean season, depending on severity. _________________

Not sure if people are no reading this or just ignoring it. But just a reminder: sobriquet has set up a tipping comp to run along side supercoach:
| sobriquet835 wrote: | Looks like I'm off to a slow start in both Supercoach and Supertipping. Oh well, 22 rounds to go. Speaking of supertipping, you can still join league 636995. I should've tried organising it more than a day before the start of the season. Oh well. My $poons will still go to the winner at the end of the season.

Please join. You don't need to re-sign up if you already have supercoach! League code: 636995

I have joined the tipping league, although i will be a bit behind having missed the first 2 rounds. I did two trades in my supercoach team this week correcting some mistakes i made with my rookie picks. Atley to Curnow, and Isaac Smith to Liberatore.

Yeah not entering the tipping, doing mine at the local club only cause the old man can't be bothered and wants to try and pocket a prize.
Needless to say not that much into tipping.

Damn, I don't think my Supercoach team is going to be remotely good at all this year.
Oh well. 8/8 in tipping this week xD

Struggling a bit this year with Supercoach (currently 7th in this league). Seems a bit of a raffle with the byes, subs, etc.

7th is pretty good Pookles, you have 2 wins, 1 loss!
Just in case anyone is unaware there are no head to head games for the next 3 weeks. Damn byes! Hopefully there will be some good footy to disscuss so this thread dosn't get buried
In the meantime, is anyone planning to trade during the byes? I was looking to pick up cox before he gets too expensive but might just wait and see. A lot can happen in 3 weeks of footy It might also be a good time to pick up rookies if you are looking to win the league. You won't get points (but that don't matter as there are no games) but might make a fair bit of cash? Is it worth the the trades? _________________ Da Bessssss

I'm going to try not to trade during to byes.
It is always so tempting to jump the gun, and bring in the latest hot player but this strategy has burnt me a few times in the past.
I'm sticking to my initial selections unless one of my players huge form slump or an injury.

Didn't check up on my SC team this week... I forgot.
Blues Bombers game was quite good. In the end Bombers played better on account of them having two injuries in the 1st quarter and still managing a draw. Two ACL's (by the looks of it) also, really a shame to see players go out of action for long periods. _________________

So GC got their first win. Good to see they're only going to be as bad as Richmond have been in recent years.

Big call, Port would have been my pick for the spoon in a battle with North if it wasn't for GC. This was one of their best chances to win all year, and they juuuust scraped it out, and Port still should have won it. _________________

I can only see them improving, though, I think by the end of the year they'll be plenty competitive with other bottom 4 sides. This win will give them confidence. With Richmond, you can never be sure if they're improving or about to collapse in a heap again. They're on the way up now, at least, with Riewoldt, Martin and Cotchin.
Also, Brisbane is my pick now (other than GC), since their entire side was J. Brown and he's injured. GC are a slight chance to get consecutive wins this week.

Richmond look like they're gonna be a quality side. No false dawn this time round I think (maybe). Riewoldt is a monster. Cotchin is just starting to show what he's capable of. Martin is just a gun, 2nd year players aren't consistent matchwinners like Martin. He's gonna be awesome. _________________

Yes I forgot Brisbane, if they didn't have Adcock, Black and Merrett they would be lose to most VFL sides.
GCS may improve, but we will also see them fatigue over the year with all those young bodies. They were 40 points down for a reason.
Richmond always tease us, they've played good patches in every game this season tho. I'm still baffled Melbourne didn't pick Martin, his strength and disposal is unbelievable. I actually try to watch most Tigers games to see him and Jack in action. Richmond just need to get some key defenders and another forward target to be real competitive I feel.
Collingwood once again look beatable today. _________________

Double post!
Essendon are giving GC an absolute belting and a half. 15 goals in the first quarter. Insanity.
Atleast GC won the second, but it's still gonna be their biggest loss so far.
EDIT: Essendon came SO CLOSE to scoring 200 points. Hope the Doggies win tonight.

**** Judd was good on Friday. He just went ballistic in the last quarter winning clearance after clearance. Good win in the wet up at Sydney too.
Melbourne were disappointing on Thursday, very bad skills wise. Not sure what the deal is with the Saints at the moment, seems their star players have lowered their output and thus the bottom players who are meant to simply be 'roleplayers' are being exposed. As has been said time and time again, their top end is as magnificently good as their bottom end is painstakingly bad. _________________

Shocker by the Dogs, apart from a good 25 minutes. Completely lost confidence in Eade.
Pies can blow sides away in 15 minutes. Have to admire them.

Bit embarrassed by my side today. Collingwood dominated but couldn't put them away till the 4th. This business of losing the 3rd quarters will come back to bit us.

Carn tiges! Managed to get to the game on saturday, it was awesome. I know it's only Brisbane, but the tigers looked really good. A lot of the younger players really stepped up, most notably little Robin Nahas. Looking forward to seeing how we go against Freo next week.
On the supercoach side of things , a couple of shocker weeks for me. 1900 last week 1700 this week! Looking to make a few trades this week, I think Curnow has pretty much maxed out his cash potential. _________________ Da Bessssss

Nah, Collingwood were really good. It kills me, absolutely kills me to say that, but it's the unfortunate truth. You have to remember it was wet, and the style Collingwood play is hurt pretty badly by the rain IMO.
