So, we still on the alcohol issue . To me alcoholic beverages is more poisonous than a lot of non-alcoholic beverages (with maybe except of energy drinks). I get a painful headache with drinking it. I really wish I know why and silly me in the past had tried and forced myself to blend in better by having a single serving of an alcoholic beverage of some sort. This includes 3 different brand of Apple Cider, a shot of some brown stuff, few glasses of red wine, a few glasses of white wine, Lemon Lime and Bitters, fruity lexia. All a serving is from a different day. With the exception of Lemon Lime and Bitters, I get a massive painful headache from just 1 serving, it's like I constantly smack my head on the wall and the pain lasts until I sleep it off. I was a former sufferer of Chronic headaches so I am not sure if they are related.
I had gave it a try, my body just hates it and there is no enjoyment in having a massive headache . I've made the hardest decision in my life to try and not drink just because I don't want to suffer any more of the alcohol-releated headache. I am lucky my friends are really supportive but it is still hard at times blaming my body for being so weak when there is a culture around drinking, even if it's just socially. So personally, I do think it's sad that those that decide not to drink are being treated different. I don't need alcohol to have fun. I'm easily sugar-highed so feed me sugary stuff and I will be running around acting silly.
And for coffee, I don't think I'm dependant on it since I only drink 2 cups of coffee a week but I still like to buy it to drink for fun... _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned that alcohol is actually good for you in moderation. A glass of wine or beer every night has been proven to have beneficial effects on your body. Obviously binge drinking is going to do some damage to your liver, although by minuscule amounts. You'd have to consistently binge drink over a long period of time to suffer long term liver damage.
Like everything in life: do it in moderation and it generally has some benefits, do it in excess and it's really not good.
Check out this article about the benefits of alcohol. It's a pretty interesting read. The part I couldn't help but laugh at was in the study that's referenced, it was shown that heavy drinkers lived longer overall than people who didn't drink at all, 61% of heavy drinkers died during the 20 year study compared to 69% of abstainers.
My point? The healthy vs unhealthy argument is a moot point. It's all personal choice, and you can't argue with that. I'll have my beer and my spliff, you have your coke and mars bar, and we'll still end up talking about video games. _________________

It's more of a very weak mixer drink than a true alcoholic beverage, but yes, it does contain alcohol. _________________

@Jahanzeb The bitters contains the alcohol, but they only ever put 1 or 2 drops because it's that strong (due to the spices rather than the alcohol). Don't ever try to drink a shot of bitters kids! _________________

The soft drink variety isn't alcohol, but the pub variety usually has a tiny bit.
EDIT: To chime in the alcohol/social thing, way too many people make way too big of a deal about alcohol and socialising. Its not a big deal on either end of the spectrum. Alcohol, in moderation, is absolutely 100% fine for you. Drinking alcohol doesn't have to mean getting trashed on cheap booze. Drinking alcohol for flavour is no different to eating food for flavour, as there are many top shelf wines, beers, ciders, spirits and liquors that are absolutely delicious. Moreover, not drinking is perfectly fine, and its not hard to go out to a pub and still have fun without drinking. I drink, but not always. Sometimes I go out and don't feel like drinking, so I don't, or I just get a coffee or something while I'm there.
People imposing social standards or expectations on anybody are idiots. Just go out and have fun the way you want to have fun. It isn't hard. _________________

It looks like everything that you have drank to give you a headache contains sulfur preservatives which are known to give certain people headaches and worser hang-overs. _________________

You should probably see a doctor about that. One alcoholic drink shouldn't give you a headache unless you have some other medical problem.
Do you find that you get dehydrated a lot? Alcohole dehydrates the body, so if you already have issues with hydration, then that could be the problem.
Either way, it sounds like something is actually wrong with you. _________________ Twitter | XBL: Tamaaya | PSN: stormo | GameCentre/Steam: StorminNorman

Speaking of alcohol, it makes me sick, and it annoys me. I only ever had two beers before I was 18 (at two different times), and have only drank 5 or so times since I've turned 18, but always after one or two beers I feel sick. The last time I drank I did better, got about 4-5 before I felt sick, then threw up when I sculled a bundy and coke, so I'm not sure if my body needs to get used to the alcohol and I'm slowly getting better, as I could drink more last time, of if that was just luck :s

Sculling a Bundy and Coke is enough to get most seasoned drinkers throwing up.
I'm looking at all you filthy Queenslanders!
Edit: @ Benza. I'm meant to be saying that Bundy tastes like balls. I used to like it but have been too seasoned to Bourbon. _________________

She is Janella Purcell, the "good"chef from the show 'Good chef, bad chef'.
All she ever does is make supposedly healthy dishes with tofu and hassles the "bad" chef for eating meat.
She does it a very condescending manner and acts like she is so much better than everyone else for not eating meat.
All of her dishes look like they would taste horrible, whereas the guys ones always make me extremely hungry and look delicious.
But I find it funny that she is a nutritionist yet she has a HUGE ass and hips. _________________

@multiple people - I don't think it's actually the alcohol that gives me a headache but the substance that is common in those alcoholic beverages. Could be what Appel had said, the sulfur preservatives.
I don't get headaches from other beverages or even those non-alcoholic equivalent of Apple Cider. I do get a very mild headache with excessive amount of msg (only very few restaurants I go to are really bad with adding msg luckily). _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

Have you ever been tested for food intolerance? Alcohol can be a big thing for some intolerance to Salicylates or Amines. A quick test to discount that is to see what you reactions are to gin, vodka or whiskey (straight). If you still get sick, then it probably isn't that.

You should probably get that checked out asap. Your reactions don't sound normal at all and you could end up going into anaphylactic shock from eating/drinking something new. Find out if it's allergy related or something else entirely, as that sounds troubling.
Although you can have plenty of fun without alcohol (or other drugs for that matter), I feel sorry for anyone who can't partake in those deviously enjoyable little substances that cross our paths here and there. It's a quality of life issue for me; Although I could live without them just fine, I could equally live without sunsets or rainbows just fine - But the world would be a little less colourful as a result. _________________
