My top screen is the same. A bit wobbly.
I'm addicted to Pilotwings Resort. So much so that I haven't even opened SSFIV3DEd yet. I have been waiting years for a Pilotwings game, and was super hyped for the game's release. I think the fact that I'm not disappointed really speaks for how good the game is. _________________

Finally got to check one out today at EB Swanston St.
I really liked. I can see a lot of potential, so time to save up some pennies. Wave Race 64-3D has to be made on this console!!
They only had the black on display, but luckily the girl working had her "blue" one there. All I can say is the aquamarineturqoisepearl colour isn't my type of colour. _________________

Once you get to play the 3DS for a while and get accustomed to it you release it's almost perfect design.
Overall it falls short of DS lite because of the D-pad.
Its not as great. Its a bit too stiff!
PSP D-pad is brilliant. If you played SF Alpha on PSP you realise how good it is. You can pull of 1/4, 1/2 and full circle moves effortlessly.
Luckily most games will only require the stylus so no biggy.
Overall 3DS is pretty good, just need more top games to be released.

Ah, you must have met Alyse, she's the coolest Nintendo staff person I've met in some time. We had a good chat the other day while I was on break from Uni. I love the blue colour. _________________

Found a design flaw, and not happy Jan.
Jarrod-kun has mentioned before how the bottom screen leaves an imprint on the top screen when you close it, as does the circle pad.
I must have had a bit of sand or something on my 3DS, as I know have a few of tiny nicks on my top screen exactly where the border of the bottom screen touches it. It's not so bad now, but in the future I can see it becoming quite annoying as more and more tiny nicks build up.
Hopefully DX will have replacement faceplates by then (and I'm sure future models will fix this problem. Huzzah for early adoption). _________________

^ I have the same problem. I think it's just finger oils though and nothing more. It is annoying but it's not going to permanently damage your top screen. _________________ Shin J Leon.

Serious? I can always wipe mine it it comes of (from the inprint from the bottom screen).
The whole device whole solid doesn't feel as well designed or crafted as the DS lite IMO. _________________ Shin J Leon.

You're not the first person I've heard of having their screen damaged. Someone figured that the combination of the loose left hinge with the screen touching the bottom rim caused the top screen to move around a little too much in their pocket while walking, causing some scratches.
I really like the hardware design (except for the d-pad), but thats a pretty glaring oversight. I literally have to wipe my top screen every time I open it, as there's always a long mark down the entire thing.

d-pad is way to low. Makes d-pad+lshoulder impossible to use together. _________________ Shin J Leon.

I finally got to touch/feel/see a friend's DS today. The 3D is different from what I expected, I thought it would pop out rather than pop in but it's quite impressive for what it is, I think I'd get dizzy playing it for a while though. I don't like where the D-pad is, I agree it's too low. _________________

Yeah, mine gets that same line on the top screen, but it cleans right off. I reckon it is just caused by the oil from your fingers being tranfered from the bottom to top screen when closed.
I see a potential market here for a case that prevent this from happening. In the meantime, you know that little piece of material sandwiched between the screens when you first unbox the 3DS... well, it comes in handy.

Hats? Collecting hats? Jeez, I'm already addicted to TF2 collecting the damn things and Nintendo drops this on me as well.
Have to say, I've been lucky and I've gotten no squeaky hinge or any other problems with the 3DS. I have one of those nice cloth thingies that came with the accessory pack to wipe the bottom screen if it gets too dirty and it never leaves an imprint on the top screen.
While I agree the Dpad on the PSP is really nice, the 3DS one suits me fine and I don't find it too low. (actually prefer using it to the analogue stick for SSF4).
The 3DS has now replaced my iPod/phone as my music player. Love the little thing. Just need to buy a bigger SD card now and hopes it supports SDHC cards.
I usually leave the 3D effect on halfway max now, as while nice, I'm constantly on the move (even sitting down on the ferry). Big nightmare for games like Ridge Racer if the 3D effect is on full as it has a very very narrow angle that you can sustain the image at max.
From all these glowing comments that Palgners say about Shadow Recon, may pick it up along with Pilotwings the upcoming week.

I'll put the blue down to disappointment. The colour it looks on the internet is perfect. But the real version just doesn't capture that. I'm nearly tempted to wait 2 - 3 months, and see if other colours are announced. _________________

I have been keeping a cloth inside my 3DS while it is closed. Stops any imprint issues and prevents damage caused by the screen moving about (my top screen wobbles a little when closed).
Like so. But closed, obviously.

Good thinking there! I think I'll have to get one of those to put inside mine, I keep getting these annoying marks on the bottom screen. _________________

Maybe it's just me, but I don't seem to have any problems with my 3DS at all. :/
No squeaky/loose hinge, no marks on my top screen and no software malfunctions.
I hated the design of the DS Lite, I cannot bear it. The 3DS, though feels better to me, and when I play DS games I like to use the D-pad. I don't think it's too low or anything, nor too stiff.
Maybe I'm just lucky. _________________ "If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you."

You're doing it wrong! I also pass through Melbourne Central, both in the morning and evening. If you get the chance though, stop in at the city EB stores - they're a jackpot. I've been visiting both of them (the Swanston Street one in particular) and have been averging 10 a day. I tend to get 1 or 2 on the train/at the station. I've never picked up the same person twice, interestingly. The only time it happens is with the EB stores, as they have store consoles which are always broadcasting. I've met a whole stack of people who were just wandering around the EB stores like me, lots of StreetPasses. I have two pages full of Miis now.
I just got the Pikmin hat, and completed my first puzzle too (the Mario and Bowser one). You get this awesome 3D model when you complete one, it looks rather like a Smash Bros trophy, but in 3D! |
I went to Supernova today (was helping out the guys from Cosplay Ozanimart) and I picked up 27 Miis _________________

Nice tip Charly. I'm glad I'm not the only one with loose hinges and top-screen imprints. I keep thinking I've cracked a line of dead pixels or something, scares me every time.
I seem to be more obsessed with StreetPass than any games these days. I carry the thing everywhere with me to try to get new people. Only have 6, which might be why really. _________________

The Mii collection has a massive bug. I collected 3 one day but didn't use them on a quest/puzzle collection. Then I collect another 4 but it disregads the previous 3! I was so annoyed. _________________ Shin J Leon.
